    No built-in wireless charger?!

    For disinfection, sunlight works better.

  • How does this compare to https://www.myer.com.au/p/homedics-uv-clean-portable-sanitis…
Which I got for $10 from jbhifi

    • I have the Kmart one. The one in the link looks better made. Mine does what it advertises and it's cheap af, so I think it's better for me.

where's the proof that this has been certified to 'sterilise' your phone ??

    • +56

I've used it, my phone cannot make babies.

Whoever negged you needs to be deported to Tasmania.

        • Not the mainland's!

          • @DEvok: 😂😂

      • Still think you’re the only monster?

It's worth noting that that product warning is referring to UV-C wands and similar portable lights as skin and eye exposure to UV-C will definitely cause damage. The UV-C lights on this steriliser stay inside the box so there is no danger of skin or eye exposure.

Their other concerns are valid though. If not used properly (insufficient time or the UV light is blocked by something like dirt), the disinfection will not be effective.

And it also shuts down as soon as you open it.

  • How bizarre - it not only sterilises but makes your phone smell as well! I wouldn't have thought "smoking" your phone in whatever fumes it creates would be great for it!!

    • Ozone?

Does it smell like burning hair or rotten eggs? If so, that's a good sign - it's the UV-C breaking down the dead skin cells that have accumulated on your phone. It means the bulbs are actually putting out the right wavelength.

  • +1

Terrible thing's. Returned it within the Same day of purchase.

    • +2

What was wrong with it? Don't leave us hanging!

  • Honestly doubt these LEDs are in the right wavelength for uvc. Most of the cheap bulbs I got claiming to be uvc did nothing but generate ozone, which means it wasn't the right wavelength.

    • +2

These don't use led. They use uvc bulbs/tubes
      They are the real deal

      • +1

Nice. I think $2.50 would be an insane bargain for a single UV-C LED alone at this point.

  • +2

Chuck some hand sanitiser on a tissue and give your phone a wipe. Simple

    • Great way to destroy the oleophobic coating.

      • +4
        • Very interesting, thanks for linking that. Guess it was just time that got to my coating rather than the alcohol wipes I used to clean it!

    • +5

Gotta be quicker jv. Somebody already made a baby joke.

      • -7

        I didn't mention babies…

  • +1

    Waste of money

  • -1

    ok digitalterrorist ok

  • Can I sterilise my surgical tools as well?

    • Perfect for the teeth cleaning kit on sale here before.

  • +2

    why not using surface wipes?

    • Exactly what I do.

    • +3

Wipes are wasteful? UVC is useful on things you don't want to get wet.

      • +1

Wipes are wasteful so buy this shitty landfill instead. Logic.

      • My health is more important than “wasteful” wipes.

Just as masks are “wasteful” but I don’t give two shits.

  • +12

why are people making this junk? no wonder the planet is drowning in plastic

    • +2

Yeah, I know right. When these came out, my first thought was……. the amount of junk that is made exclusively for landfill these days. And what's funnier is that some people actually buy this crap! Just donate a few dollers to a charity instead if bored rather than on this. Ha!

    Great English Kmart.

Forget the "UV Steriliser" application, it is perfect for UV Glue - https://3dinsider.com/uv-glue/
    Love it :-)

    • Nah not really as it would be hard to point this at the glue area that requires the focus of strong blue UV light. Will stick to UV pen light myself which are more direct and focused. Might be better for UV nail polish!

    • +1

Forget the "UV Steriliser" application, it is perfect for UV Glue - https://3dinsider.com/uv-glue/

Mmm, better check the docs for the specific glue you're using first. Common UV adhesives cure best at higher wavelengths. A lower wavelength like UV-C may rapidly cure the top surface of adhesive and not fully cure the adhesive below.

Glass blocks UV-C so it won't properly cure the UV-cure LOCA adhesive used by UV-cure tempered glass screen protectors.

  • Anyone know what wavelength these are? Thinking I could MacGyver up a ghetto SLA printer curing machine using the parts out of these…

    • +1

Answering my on question, way too low a wavelength. UVC is 200-280.

  • I will use it for underwear

    • +1

      That would be really uncomfortable.
