  • Can anyone confirm you have to activate within 30 days of purchase? Still have two months on my old plan

    • I asked the cust rep last time this deal is posted.

The rep just said they cannot guarantee the same inclusions if activated after 30 days. it's not like the credit expires or anything.

      • +1

just called now for the one sitting in my drawer and yeah they cannot guarantee the inclusions. Mentioned that its whatever the current offering is for that plan at the time you activate, so you may gain/lose some entitlements.
I initially called to try and get a refund after reading the threads here, as I was able to price beat the boost $158 deal at Officeworks ($150), but was given a flat no so will gift to parents when theirs expire

    • According to the info in this link:-
      https://colesmobile.com.au/home/left-image/product/5

Activate within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised in the promotion, whichever is earlier.

    • I bought this a couple of months ago. I forgot about it and activated it a few weeks after the 30 day thing. Works fine. There's no bonus or anything anyways.

    • I bought Coles Mobile Sim card in last year in Dec (2020) and activated last week, got all the current offers. Customer care can't guarantee you about this but still worked fine with me.

  • Do you have to port out if already with Optus?

    • +1

Well if you want to keep the same number and go with Coles mobile then yes.

    • I'd like to know as well, my understanding is lateral ports (like Amaysim to Coles which both use the Optus network) are super painful

      • +4

Ive actually (touch wood) never had issues with porting between optus resellers

        • +3

I ported from Optus to Coles last time with the $119/120GB deal and it went through within the hour. Was concerned about it saying “up to 2-3 business” days but Optus disconnected straight away after the port request.

I’d recommened porting during business hours in case you need to speak with someone.

        • tried to port out from dodo to catch. Both Optus. But failed. Did not receive any OTP. I was stuck for 2 weeks. it was a lot of hassle. will never use Optus again. The issue was solved using a different provider. terrible customer service by Optus, catch & dodo. none of them ever mentioned that I can not port out from Optus to Optus. Although I mentioned it multiple times. Had no problem from Telstra to Telstra before. I thought This might be the same with Optus.
will just switch between Voda and Telstra providers from now on.

      • +2

I just ported from Catch Connect to this Coles Mobile plan (both Optus) about 2 weeks ago and it went through in about 10 minutes. Haven’t had any issues.

        • i suspect that may be the case as catch and coles use the same back end. at least the customer facing portals look identical.

        • How's the performance of Coles compared to Catch? I know they both Optus so expecting the same? I'm with Catch atm but expires at end of month so was thinking of jumping on this.

          • @Narull: I haven’t noticed any difference. Same good spots and dead spots.

  • +10

no thanks, i cant wait till my 12 months to end. coverage is piss poor and they have done nothing to improve in the last 10 months.

    • +4

get boost mobile! they are really good! I can only handle 6 months of OPTUS network…

      • +1

Definitely, in Sydney Optus would just completely crap itself at big gatherings or just Central Station I couldn't even send a message with data while Telstra customers would be freaking video calling each other.

Boost is the best of Telstra network for cheap.

        • k thanks - while Coles/Optus $99 for 60GB looks cheaper than Boost $150 or $200 for 100GB

my impression is that Optus fails where Boost's full Telstra wholesale network delivers

          I could be wrong - I don't want to pay $200 for Boost …

          • @Hangryuman: If you use boost you are actually Telstra customer. Also you can buy discount eBay boost starter pack for $160 or $140 something for the $200 pack.

          • +1

@Hangryuman: As always, depends entirely on where you are. I've had Boost and Coles, both equally good around where I go. Voda too for that matter.

    • +1

I have been hopping around the Optus reseller cheap offers and found they are just getting slower as time goes by. I'm on a Kogan /voda cheapie atm and it is a lot better. It looks like you have to pay a little more for decent performance so I will give Boost a go next time.

      • -3

stay away from Boost if you don't like identity fraud - they will port your number to anyone who provides your date of birth.

        • -1

I would say any telco would do that for anyone that has your personal details. Best to be safe with that info first.

        • +3

Not sure why you're down voted.
          Did this happen to you?
Did you get a text notifying you in advance?

        • +1

hmm - I just tried to open boost.com.au and malwarebytes blocked it 'due to phishing'

my browser displays the page as

'This site can’t provide a secure connection

          boost.com.au sent an invalid response.'

  • +11

This coles mobile Optus network is terrible…I purchased it and a lot of time SOS, no internet…I had to purchase another mobile pack after suffering for 6 months…

    • +4

      Optus.. No thanks.

    • +4

Same experience here, really poor coverage and connectivity

    • +3

      Boost is better IMO

    • +3

      Agree! Boost is better

    • +6

i guess depends on where you are for Optus network.

Mine works fine in Sydney East.

      • +3

Same here. I'm in Hobart where everyone warned me I'd be sorry, but Coles/Optus coverage is great, even out hiking in the forest. 6 months in on this exact deal and I'm quite happy.

        • +1

          You mentioned Tasmania

out hiking in the forest. 6 months

Going to buy milk and bread?

    • YMMV - I’ve had both woolies and coles - I started with Optus find woolies mobile (Telstra) is better, I’m in Sydney however.

  • Can I use this if I'm already on Coles Mobile? Or is it new customers only

  • Does it have vmail/message bank? Because im with belong at the moment and it only has the 10second message thing.

    • +1

      Yes it has voicemail facility.

  • Anyone knows if Coles sim has WIFI calling? at the moment I am with Amysim 6 months deal but no WIFI calling, unlike previous sim with Boost which had it.

    • +2

      There is no wifi calling

  • +1

Can anyone compare catch mobile to coles mobile in terms of coverage? Both on Optus

    • +1

They would be the same. Also the same with Gomo and Circles Life which are also on the Optus network.

    • No international calls included for Catch , I believe

  • +3

On the other note, @TA any plan on bringing the CR/Amaysim offer back?

    • Might have to @ mention @tightarse, not sure if it works.
I'd also like to know, there is currently $21 back on the $150 which is currently 50% discounted but not sure if it would apply against the discounted price.

  • I agree with most of the comments here. Go with boost instead, terrible coverage and call quality with coles

  • +1

    available in-store

So I guess there will be a sim pack with 60gb 365 days available?

    • Correct. Got mine from the gift cards section last deal.

      • Thanks. Just went and bought.

  • +2

Dunno why there are so many complaints about the Optus coverage. I'm yet to encounter any significant issues over and above those of boost(telstra) across Adelaide at least…only missing volte and vowifi…

    • +1

Havent been able to reliably send/receive texts for over 2 weeks now

      • -1

Same with dodo, which is using Optus network. Avoid Optus network at all costs. Surely they don't care about quality as much as quantity.

  • +4

Those looking for Boost, below is the best deal I can find for $200 SIM Starter Kit for new customers for $129.99:

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/174829501372?hash=item28b4a67bbc…

Those looking for $300 SIM starter kit, can buy it for $199.99:

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/174837416522?hash=item28b51f424a…

    • Did the seller jacked up the price for $200 one? It shows $139.99 for me.

      • yes looks like it's $139.99 now, I bought this one last night for $129.

      • Looks like, as I just bought it for $129 an hour ago.

      • Better buy $300 deal for $199 as its price is still the same.

  • +1

Hopefully, Coles would change to Telstra soon, Optus is so congested.

  • +2

Better deal is to get it from Catch.

    https://www.catch.com.au/catch-connect

$120 for 120GB. Go to Coles and get the 15% gift card. So works out to be $102 for 120 GB data

    • +2

Catch does not have any international calling included. To be honest that is the only reason people opt for Coles or Boost. Coles is the cheapest with int. calling included but as others have mentioned, network is poor.

      • As far as MVNO's are concerned, I opt for Boost for no other reason than network reliability. I have not made an international call in years.

        • +2

I make many Int'l calls per day so critical for me and most others I know.

          • +1

@Borg: Its a personal thing the need for international calling. I know of no one that uses/needs it but that does not mean others might.

          • +1

@Borg: Yes. International calls are important to me, so I will never use Catch

  • DO NOT buy this - coverage is horrendous I'm having issue with it can't make and receive calls and text - I can't believe this shit OPTUS network, never had problems like this with Boost and Kogan.

    • +3

meh, just because you have issues doesn't mean everyone does. Works fine for me

      • +1

same here. worked fine for me and i tried to call internationally with it and it's been fine too.

      • Same…

    • +2

i agree! only ever had issues with coles mobile.
Other optus providers like amayasim never had an issue.

Coles mobile couldnt call through to a bunch of numbers for my parents, and they did not know the issue, couldn't resolve it until 3 months later. No compensation.

    • -1

I've never had a problem with coverage - and I've used Optus in Dubbo, Cobar, Sydney, Brisbane - even Singapore.

    • -1

      Rubbish. It works fine.

  • I've tried this SIM in about 5 Optus locked phones and it works fine, C3, A72, lite etc

  • I think I paid 100 for amaysim double data but no international calls

  • +1

Dont do coles mobile for optus! Had issues with both sim services, try other optus providers like amayasim etc!

  • +1

im using the same plan, but a bad network always cant call out. only cheap price.

  • Any know when this deal expired?

    • It hasn't yet.

  • +1

worst reception, I am regretting after ported from boost.

    • Damn which area?

    • Rookie mistake man

  • How is the network? Never thought to go with coles

    • Optus resellers all use the same network.

  • Your network coverage will vary as per location. Got to RFNSA and type your address. It will show you the closest tower and what service providers on it.

  • +2

Woollies deal (it is $140 at the moment) is better cause you'll get 10% off every month when you do shopping at woollies.
Get $20 off at Cashrewards., 😀
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/589929

    • +2

This is better if you shop at Aldi instead of Woolworths.

    • No overseas calls.

  • +2

    Garbage internet speed.
    DO NOT BUY!!
    See here
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/635109

  • I bought the recent $120 60GB deal at $99 - which looks identical to this.
But with the COVID lockdown I didn't get through my existing credit as quickly as usual. About three days ago I gave it up to activate the Coles sim within 30 days of purchase.
But how do I know if the inclusions have changed?

I'm a bit worried now as I can't see the differnce betwen that deal and this one - which has been declared as being "back"!

Also, "Rollover up to 50GB when you recharge before expiry or when you maintain an active AutoRecharge." I instantly turned off auto-recharge does that mean I won't be able to get the rollover, even if I turn auto-recharge back on at a later date?

  • +3

Its $96 at coles express in WA

    • Can confirm this. Saw it at a Coles Express when filling up within Perth CBD. Will get a further 5% off if you know someone with a Coles team member discount card. That is a further $4.80 off bringing it down to $91.20 for 12 months or $7.60 a month.

  • Can I buy it online and pay by e gift card?

    • -1

So, it's Coles' fault you lost your phone? No wonder you got down voted.

      • +1

Don't get me wrong, I am not blaming Coles for my stolen phone.

I am comparing it with Optus for the situation when your SIM card is lost or stolen,
how quickly and helpful the companies can do something to help their customers.

In this case, Optus can provide you a replacement SIM card simply by visiting its stores,
whereas Coles mobile does not even allow me to grab a SIM card from my local Coles super market
and the only way to get the replacement SIM card is by delivery which takes 3 - 8 business days.
You have no idea how upset I was when I was not able to authenticate myself to everywhere,
        especially cannot work.
        So try to show sympathy

  • What's the cheapest network with Telstra OP?

  • Has anybody ported to Coles more than once as the same person
I recently put my son on Coles in my name
Looking to port my own number
    Ad says new customers only
