  • One Ethernet port per unit is a bit rough. Otherwise, good deal.

    • Is that 1 port output or input? Like is it needed to connect the beacon or do they connect wirelessly?

      • Over Wi-Fi. Using Ethernet to link the Deco's together is optional.

        TP-Link Mesh Technology
Optional Ethernet backhaul work together to link Deco units to provide seamless coverage

They can connect wirelessly. You’ll always get better performance and stability with an Ethernet backhaul, though.
Both units have two Ethernet ports. At least one of those will be an input (from your modem or NBN/OptiComm box) and then you have up to 3 spare Ethernet ports in total.

    • There is two Ethernet ports on each Deco X90.

Yeah, sorry, I wasn’t clear. I was implying that when using Ethernet backhaul you only get one spare.

Ohhhh right. Because I'm building my house and am selecting my mesh network. I have 2 good wired spots but another 2 that I didn't add wiring so I could do a mixture and buy 2 sets of these to have 2 wired and 2 wireless.

Thanks for the help guys 👍

@Squirmy Squid: You must have a huuuuge house to need four of these. Two would be enough for a large home. Consider your placement and save some money :)

@Broos: It's not huge. It's 40 sq double story, I just hate seeing anything besides a full wifi signal so figured overkill would be best. Maybe I'll add the 2 wired and then add another 2 later if required. Cheers for the tip.

I have the x20 and a couple are completely wireless and a couple are connected via Ethernet. They all work great but the wired backhaul are at almost 100% of my NBN for wireless clients. The x20 potential speed suits me as I don't have access to gigabit speed NBN and they are way cheaper than the x90.

  • At a glance looks like a mug ad

  • Looks like TP-Link has changed the bonus to the light bulbs and power plug while the wireless1 website still advertises the cameras system. I wonder if they would honor the cameras system.
