2 Months of Xbox LIVE Gold for $2

530

Browsing the AU Xbox LIVE dashboard and came across this deal. Purchase with PayPal and cancel auto-renewal right away. I have done it before and it is far easier than removing a credit card.

Edit.
Just to clarify - you purchase this from the consoles dashboard, not via Xbox.com.

Edit 2.
The ad/offer is only available to members who are currently using the free (silver) service. If you are a paying member, it won't be visible.

Edit 3.
To cancel auto-renewal - http://support.xbox.com/en-US/billing-and-subscriptions/subs…

      It's for Xbox 360.

I think what they mean to ask is, do you access this deal through a pc or via the xbox dashboard?

I believe the latter is correct as there is nothing on their website.

        • -1

          Oh, I see.

Yes, you access this from the consoles dashboard.

The question is… can you do the controller trick?

    • ooooh, what's the controller trick?

    • As far as I know, they 'patched' it. The exploit can not be done, but I have been told otherwise.

    • I just tried, it kicks you back to the home screen (sans the $2 deal) when you sign out of the silver account :(

What's the quickest way to cancel auto-renewal? Is it through paypal or through the xbox dashboard?

    EDIT: nvm, found it: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/billing-and-subscriptions/subs…

    • I was just about to ask that-thanks for posting the link!

  • Hi Guys,

I want to do this for 2 months and I have a xbox ID but do I pay via the xbox dashboard or via their website? any help is appreciated as this is my 1st time..

    • +1

As mentioned above, you pay from the console dashboard.

  • setting Xbox live account to cancel auto renewal does it mean it will go back to the original monthly price not $2 for 2 months. This is a good deal to try Xbox live gold as some games are only available to download demo's for to gold members.

No sir. Cancelling auto-renewal means that it won't renew after the intended expiry date. You can continue using what remains on your subscription for what you originally paid for.

  • Which part of the dashboard is this at?

Just turned on my Xbox…did a forced update and went through "games, videos, apps" etc and still don't see it. Sat through the whole cycle of ads.

OP was your Live expired or due to expire before getting this ad?

    • Expired. I'll add that up top.

      • "Edit 2.
The ad/offer is only available to members who are currently using the free (silver) service. If you are a paying member, it won't be visible."

Yep, i'm glad you've added this.

  • These deals are only ever for Silver Members. PRO TIP: They always seem to offer 1 month $1 dollar, so best to let your gold membership expire (unless you play online everyday).

  • Sweet, got my 2 months and with that stupid process cancelled auto-renewal. Three things:

    • It advises me if I redeem a prepaid card for more membership, it will turn on auto-renew again. Seems like they're just being annoying there.
    • In place of the 'get 2 months for 2 bucks' banner on my dashboard, I've now got a 'stay with xbox for 2 bucks!' deal, for supposedly another 2 months (or possibly only one) that I can buy, but only while on my current trial. Seems like a good idea, might as well get some more XBL for the same rate - but I can't really see how I'm meant to redeem this. I click through the links, and just end up at the subscription management menu…?
    • Lastly, not about this deal but I need some help. For some reason my Xbox is being a bit dicky and not letting me enable HD resolutions with my component cable. It seems to think the cable itself has HDTV disabled (why the hell would anyone put such an option on a cable I do not know). The stupidest part is I can actually select 720p/1080p etcetera and it does display properly, just fine. The TV recognises it as 1080p and displays it as such. When I click 'yes' to keeping these new settings, it reverts to SD anyway. Anyone got any ideas? (another funny thing to note is SD for me is actually 720x480, i.e. NTSC res. no idea what's broken there)
    • If you are using the Microsoft cable there should be a manual selector on the cable itself to choose between Composite (SD?) and Component (HDTV) Hope that helps

      • Mm, not a Microsoft cable though. Didn't see the point in spending $40 on something that I can get for $15 and will work with all my consoles :P

        Stupid Microsoft.

Component cables can't do HD resolutions; you'll need a HDMI cable for that. As far as the NTSC resolution thing goes, it might be due to some setting on your TV.

Component HD AV Cable can do HD resolutions as well. An HDMI cable is not required.

Don't worry about the re-turning on of auto-renewal - I bought a 12 month prepaid card from cdkeyshere.com the other day (with a 10% discount thanks to another ozbargain thread!), was about to activate it and I saw this deal.

So I got the 2 months for $2, cancelled auto-renewal, and then redeemed the prepaid code - auto-renewal status is still set to "Off".

  • Best deal of the day :D

  • Great deal! How do I cancel auto-renewal?

  • Thanks alot for this great deal :) I've cancelled auto-renenwal successfully, but can't cancel the paypal from payment options. Any ideas how, or do I have to wait till my Gold sub expires before cancelling?

    • +1

Yep. Wait for the subscription to expire and remove it yourself. OR, call shudders Xbox customer support and have them remove it.

      • Cool thx for the confirmation mate :)

  • Awesome, thanks! worked great

  • Redeemed last night. Might breathe a bit of life into the forgotten console (but any game I tried to play online had no one to talk to or play against and I wanted to test my headset D:)

  • Awesome!

  • Thanks, the only thing that kinda pisses me is that even to use non-MS services (e.g. YouTube, Netflix) you need to pay for Gold - let's hope a good renewal deal drops in the next two months.
