What is your EDC?

Everyday carry (EDC) or every-day carry is a collection of useful items that are consistently carried on person every day. The main reasons for having EDC are utility and preparedness; to help individuals overcome simple everyday problems, including possible emergency situations.

What is your everyday carry?

        Edgy

      • +11

        nice mask you got on
need a big purse to fit it?

      • Are there any mods on this site? Trolls like this are so tedious.

        • +1

I get slapped with the penalty box for telling people to get mad over me buying and reselling high demand items for profit, but people who actually troll and are a harm to society by spreading misinformation have their comment up for 2 days with no penalty. Says a lot.

Watch me get a penalty box for this comment lol

So manly with your exposed nose and mouth

      • I'm gonna assume that was a joke, and if it was, it was a good one.

If serious though, I agree with the downvotes

    • +5

What's the purpose of the wallet? I only carry my phone with which I can pay, show photo ID, show medicare.

The last wallet I had was in 2014.

      • To say "here" when people tell me their wallet is just one more pathetic excuse reason they can't go vegan.

        • :))

      • +2

Where do you keep your driver's license?

        • +2

NSW has had digital licences since late 2019. I think SA has had them since 2017. AFAIK they're the only 2 though. Once that came in I stopped carrying a wallet 99% of the time.

        • The physical licence is meaningless, it's only plastic. The licence number counts. Show that photo to the cops and you should be ok.

          • @[Deactivated]: anyone know if thats the case in vic? I'm still operating on the old school notion that if i forget my license at home and get pulled over ill have a grumpy cop and / or a fine.

            • +1

@knk: I believe you only need to carry the physical one if you fall in to one of the categories listed here

              • @whitelie: interesting, did not know that.

                Thanks for the info

            • +1

@knk: You'd never actually get a fine for forgetting your licence, they usually give you 24-48Hrs to go to a local cop shop and show them.
Unless of course they stopped you because you were doing something wrong in the first place (speeding, dangerous driving etc…)

Just be nice when you get stopped and sometimes it will get you a long way :)

              • +1

@croseks: thats good to know. I always get paranoid if i forget my wallet lol.

That said, I don't remember the last time I got pulled over or breath tested. I suspect some profiling says that my jeep compass is the reason lol

                • +1

@knk: I don't live in any of the states with digital licences and I never carry my licence with me. Cops don't care in the 2 times that they've asked. I just recite my licence number and they're good. Your experience may vary.

      • +2

Currently just a slim 4 pocket card wallet for ID, bus card, backup money card, 2 coffee cards. Hopefully the first 2 should be gone in Qld soon.

      • I still like to have some cash on me and a backup card incase the phone dies or something - plus if not in NSW, then you wouldn’t have a digital license, so the question about ‘why a wallet’ would be pretty straight forward anyway.

  • +7

A pen, a sharpie, a 6” rule, a 3mm drill bit, my Wiha 26:1 screwdriver, mobile phone, face mask, keys, my Soundpeats headphones and a knifeless Rebar Leatherman.

    • Without a tap a 3.2mm bit is IMO more useful.

      • Between you and me, I think it’s actually a 1/8th bit. I just grab something around the 3~4mm size out of the store each time I need one.

Oh, and crap, I forgot, safety glasses and my Uber-hyper tacticool Mechanix gloves… oh, and my ID.

        • +17

          1/8th

Ugghhhhh 🤨. You and my dad and America and your fractions. When will this finally end?

    • Just curious what the drill bit is for and how it is used?

      • +9

what the drill bit is for

        For making holes

        how is it used

        In a cordless drill mostly.

        • Fair enough, does it work in the wiha or do you also carry a cordless?

          • +2

@TheBilly: No, it doesn’t have a hex drive. And I only take the cordless if I need it. The drill bit is mainly a pilot drill, and I got sick of hunting for one each time I needed one.

It’s also a great size for pilot holes for wood and timber screws I use a lot at work and there are some spray nozzles that I need to deburr/unclog and the 3mm~ish drill bits are perfect.

            • +5

@pegaxs: Dammit, now I'm going to have to start carrying around a 3mm drill bit. It sounds so darned handy.

              • @flubba86: Had a look today because of afoveht’s comment about 3.2mm being a better size and it turns out, mine was a 3.5mm. Very handy drill bit size.

Given I rarely leave the house these days the only thing I carry regularly is my coffee mug.

    • +12

      Peter. What's happening?

      • +9

I'm gonna need you to come in on saturday…

        • +6

So if you could be here around 9 that would be great.

  • +1

    Ha! Good question OP!

    Assuming I'm leaving the house.

Keys, wallet, phone, watch, sunnies, mask, headphones and a bottle of water!

I will check if there are glasses (prescription) in the car if I've not got a spare pair at the destination.

  • +4

Keys, overpowered mini torch and phones. Manbag with wallet, powerbank, masks, pen, reusable straws.

    • What's the model of the torch?

      • +2

I've got a GT nano with 10440 tube.

Also got a D4V2 for a regular pocket. You can get shorter tubes to make it more compact but less capacity and output.

    • +3

God I loved massdrop, back when the dollar was about parity with the US and it was one drop at a time, rather than the shop it's turned into

  • Phone, wallet, keys (not if walking as house has keypad), watch, mask, hand sani, tissues, baby snacks x 3-5, baby nappy change kit, pen, various baby toys if baby is with me. (Snacks often linger even if he isn’t). Laptop is also often carried if working or trying to.

    Or

just phone on occasions if by myself and not interacting with others - ie just going for a walk.

        • +3

No, a smart man would still have access to all the gear without having to carry anything

1990' called and wants their pants back

          • +1

@Archi: How? How can we carry all this without carrying anything?

And I love my cargos. Only thing annoying is that wife is constantly asking me to carry her stuff too. I already have a set of keys, I don't want to carry another!

            • @Sxio:

Only thing annoying is that wife is constantly asking me to carry her stuff too.

you're doing it wrong it's meant to go the other way,

              • +1

@Archi: It's cos I'm doing it so WELL.

She loves the system so much she's not even carrying a purse. We get to the shops and she just hands over the phone and keys. So I can put them next to my phone and keys. In my right map pocket.

I'm suffering from success. Shits me sometimes. All this crap gets heavy!

                • @Sxio: you wearing a multi pocket fishing vest, hat with lures pinned to the outside and crocs too. i mean socks with sandals

    • What's the difference between your charging bank and battery bank?

      • +2

Charging bank charges the battery bank 😁

    • +1

How many pockets do you have exactly?

    • +1

I thought it's illegal to carry swiss army knife?

Nvm dunno why I read that….this lockdown is affecting my reading and mental health 🤣

    • and that's just to go the local shops to buy milk.

    • So you carry that EVERYDAY as per the op????

      • Yes, in a bag

  • +1

Phone w/ card and keys. Small camera, XF10.

  • +8

Seeing as a lot of people here carries a leatherman, has anyone here been stopped by police or authorities? My understanding is in NSW unless you have a reasonable explanation for having a knife on your body (work purposes e.g tradesmen) you could be charged for possession of a dangerous weapon. I own Leathermans too but always kept them in backpacks and toolbags not EDC.

    • Knifeless versions exist - fuse / rebar

    • +8

I think a lot of people confuse 'every day' with 'stuff I bought because I watched an Asian dude's YouTube EDC video.' Like, I keep a leatherman in the glove compartment and my bag; but unless you're a tradie, no one's walking around with a multitool in permanently in their hip pocket. I'd be shocked if people genuinely carry half this stuff around every day.

      • You should've seen how much I carried daily before Covid started. Built on almost 30 years experience of what I need to fix issues it dwarfs anything anyone here is likely to list but it was very rare I had to leave a job and come back. Very little of it was actually used daily of course.

        • +3

Did you carry all that gear on a Sunday arvo stroll, or in a tool bag when you're going to a job?

EDC implies you carry it every time you leave the house…

          • +1

@abb: I was always on call for emergencies plus I did a lot of work outside business hours so it went every where I did. If I was actually on holidays I had a cut down version to take instead.

      • +2

Wait until you see a female's everyday carry if you think this list is long.

    • +1

I’ve been pulled over and had car searches done twice in 2 years, both times they asked me to also empty pockets and both times have had my leatherman wave sighted. The second time the cop laughingly remarked to his partner, man who does old mate think he is, Mcguyver?

I believe as long as it’s not 1 hand open style it’s above board.
