Price of this older NUC has halved overnight per Camel3x. At under $500 its just about worth considering if you want an ultraportable system with decent performance, although I'd almost be tempted by the Steam deck depending on use case.

Barebones system so bring your own RAM, storage and OS.

      Intel just announced their replacement for this a couple of days ago so it does make sense it's halved. New model has space for a discrete GPU however the listed model can have the CPU upgraded to 11th gen.

        The successor to this is the Phantom Canyon NUC with an integrated RTX 2060. It sounds like what you're referring to is the Beast Canyon NUC, successor to the NUC 9 Extreme.

      This product should only be purchased if you just want to play around with old or retro games, since there's no guarantee that new or upcoming games will continue to play nice with the GPU.

      Steam Deck is using RDNA2 Graphics which is a couple of generations ahead and it's also paired with quad channel DDR5 memory. Most likely it'll be faster than Vega M simply due to having newer architecture and better driver support.

        The APU graphics performance in this NUC is way more powerful than the Steam Deck will be.

        This NUC has 20 Vega CU's, in the best case scenario an RDNA 2 CU is twice as performant as a Vega CU. There's also the fact that this NUC has a 4GB HBM stack for VRAM which has an effective memory bandwidth of 179.2GB/s. The NUC power limit is also much higher.

        The Steam Deck also has quad channel "LP"DDR5, not DDR5. LP has half the bitrate (32-bit vs 64-bit) so quad channel LPDDR5 has the same throughput as dual channel DDR5 if the frequencies are the same. The Steam Deck will have an effective memory bandwidth of 85GB/s~.

              @Anubis: True, but Windows 10 is supported until 2025 anyway.
              I don't think any PC you buy for $500 is going to be worth using at that point anyway.
              OOS now, but if you got one, I think this was a cracker of a deal for 1080p gaming
