  • Got a couple of the 27" 4k when they were $250. Crazy good value

S2721Q - could someone please let me know if this is ok for a WFH setup or should I get the S2721DGF.

This is for just normal Microsoft Office apps.

    • +2

S2721DGF is for gaming, it has a high refresh rate. I'll go for S2721Q, 4K works very well on Windows 10.

      • Thank you very much hello2090

My first 4k monitor is a Dell u2718q in 2018 I think. I'm not a designer so color accuracy or wide color space is not important for me, so I guess U series is kind of waste on me. But 4k resolution is really good. way way better than 1080p.

  • Alienware AW3821DW has sold out

  • Happy to see the s2721q back at this price, grabbed one for my girlfriend for uni reading!

Looks like the S3422DWG curved gaming monitor's been snapped up quickly as well, no more stock right now.

I got a S3422DWG from the last time this deal was listed here. I bought a 32 but had to cancel that to buy this one but got a refund reasonably fast and Dell eBay were quite fast at giving responses.

Love this S3422DWG for MS Flight Simulator 2020 and its compatible with DDM (dell display manager) which I use often when I am not doing flight sim.

Previously had 3 x 23 Dell monitors on a triple display setup but this has some spec advantages so IMO gives a bang for buck display that atm, suits my requirements. Nice Aus 3yr warranty, no pixel issues, pretty fast delivery so under $500au with some ok specs is a deal for me.

Each to their own I guess but like everything, it will come down to budget and requirements.

    • Just ordered Dell S3422DWG, seems to be back in stock.

  • Thoughts on the Alienware with a 3070, compared to the xps?
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Alienware-Aurora-Desktop-Ryz…

    • I just wish they had even an option to add the liquid cooler to it.

  • What are your thoughts of the XPS 8940 vs Alienware R11 (Ryzen) or Alienware R12 (Intel)?

From a quick look, comparing the XPS 8940 to the Alienware R12 (both Intel):

    Alienware R12:
512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD Boot HDD (XPS has 1TB)
1TB Sata main storage (XPS has 2TB)
USB 3.2 with Powershare (XPS has 3.1 without Powershare)
Microphone In/Out (XPS has headset jack)
1000W PSU (XPS - unsure but pretty sure less - maybe 500W)
R12 has no CD ir extra bays for HDD
Z490 chipset (XPS has H470 Chipset)
Ethernet up to 2500Mbps (XPS max 1000Mbps)

  • Has anyone gone from an acer xb271hu to a s2721dgf? Had it for several years and it's still going strong, just unsure if there'd be any benefit to switching.

  • Does anyone know if the Hardware Codec Support with the Core i7-11700K is only when the CPU's GPU is being used? ie support for h265, etc.

Or is the Hardware Codec Support utilized even when you are not using the CPU's GPU - ie using a RTC 3070?

    • Late answer but if it helps….
The RTX 3070 can do hardware h265 so would assume if the application is using the dGPU it can hardware decode.
I assume also the iGPU on 11th gen also supports h265 hardware decode.

  • S2234DG shows as out of stock now.

I ordered one and it said delivered by 29th of August, is this an overestimation or does it really take that long for them to send it?

    • Overestimated.

      "Always under promise, over deliver."

      • Thanks. Anyone know a more realistic time they would deliver? I am in VIC metro

        • Usually dispatch within 7-10 business days.

    • I was originally told early Sep but it was delivered today.

  • FFS i bought 3x S2721DGF last week :(

  • Thanks, picked up a S2721Q thats I’ve been watching for a while.

  • Well I'm not annoyed at all to find that Dell's ebay store is $100 cheaper than their website, then another $400 off with this deal.
So I paid $500 to get my laptop a couple of days sooner. Fair enough I guess, I was in a hurry :(

  • Anyone in WA that are after the NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 3070™ 8GB GDDR6?
Want to buy the Dell XPS 8940 Desktop 11th Gen Intel Core i7-11700K but don't need the video card.

  • S3422DWG out of stock, will there be anymore restocks?

    • +1

Just ordered Dell S3422DWG, seems to be back in stock.

  • Caved and bought the S2721DGF. Will be interesting to see how it compares to my XB271HU. Also bought a S2721H for my son to use with PS4.

  • Anyone tried using S2721Q with M1 MacBook? I have been having trouble with resolution and blurry text when hooking up my M1 Air to 1080p screen. So I got the 4k UHD hoping that will resolve the issue but based on my reading online, even using 4k UHD monitor, people still get blurry text on their external display.

If anyone has used the S2721Q with M1 MacBook, could you please share your result whether the text is crisp and clear?

    • Are you using it at native res and at what refresh rate? what dock and cable are you using?

      • Sorry just to be clear, Im still waiting for my S2721Q to arrive but I'm just asking for people's experience with the monitor + M1 Mac to prepare in advance in case I need additional adapter/cable.

re my experience with the current 1080 FHD monitor, I hook up my M1 MBA to a USB C hub then connect using a 4K HDMI 2.0 cable from the hub to my monitor. I set the external display to native 1920 x 1020; video pictures etc are fine but text is blurry, get worse as the text gets smaller. Alternatively, I can mirror my MBA and the external display which makes the external display crisper but then the resolution on the display is strange and get a bit of left and right side chopped off and mirroring means u r just running same thing on the built-in and external display which is not ideal.

I used to connect this monitor with my Windows laptop and works fine; first time using a Mac and not as seamless as I thought it would be.

        Thanks!

        • Make sure the hub you have can do 4k@60hz, if not then you need to order a thunderbolt 3 to DP cable.
As for the blurriness you are experiencing with your FHD, it sounds like it may have something to do with the display settings under system preference, as you said it looks crisper when used in mirror mode. In the display settings, hold opt before selecting the scaled radio button, that would allow you to select from a full range of resolution and refresh rate. Font smoothing would probably help to improve text clarity on the FHD as well, see this link for instruction.
Switchresx will be a good app to check out for customising HiDPI resolution (x2 retina) for the 4k display.

          • @deliriouss: Thanks for the tip!. Does 4k @30hz not work? or it just make it looks horrendous?

            • @Tevada: @Tevada I have a S2721QS which I think is the same monitor with a different stand.

TL;DR I'm really happy with the monitor.

There are issues with M1 Macs and thunderbolt 3 (/USB-C) to DP cables. The issue is with the Mac and not the monitor. So use HDMI for now.

              See https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252171250

4K@30Hz looks bloody fantastic for normal business use but not so great for videos (you even notice it when scrolling). But it's "stuttering", not blurriness, that's the issue.

I've ordered an HDMI adapter which claims it can do 4K@60Hz and others report success, I'll let you know how it goes. It's this one:

              https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B08DK4JC4N

Edit: Your hub almost certainly WON'T do 4K@60Hz, unless you bought an expensive hub.

              • @cobberboy: Cheers! Thanjs for the tip.

Ye my hub is budget one from amazon and def wont do 4k at 60hz. Been looking at more premium hub but even some at 100+ is a hit or miss based on the review.

Is there any difference between using an usb c adapter then hdmi to hdmi cable vs. using usb c to hdmi cable directly?

Ive been looking at usb c to hdmi cable but worry about the review I have seen saying that the cable gets real hot. Something i rly want to avoid knowing it will likely dmg my macbook at some point.

                • +1

@Tevada: I don't know the answer to your question. I'm currently running it at 4K@30Hz while I wait for the arrival of the adapter I linked above. The notes on that adapter say it requires DP 1.4 Alt mode, which the MacBook M1 supports.

Like you, I weighed up the pros and cons of a USB-C => HDMI adapter vs a cable, and it came down to price. I already have some HDMI cables (the monitor comes with one) and I can easily cart an adapter around with my MacBook. So I haven't tried that type of cable. But I did try a USB-C => DP cable and experienced the issue I linked above. (edit: the USB-C => DP cable works fine if you set it to 4K@30Hz, the issue only appears if you set it to 4K@60Hz which is the default)

            • @Tevada: I couldn't stand it at 30hz, 50hz was the minimal I can handle without getting a headache.
We are using a Warrky usb-c to dp cable on my partner's M1, haven't had the commonly-reported flickering or black out issues.
May be try with your existing hub+cable and see whether it is acceptable for you first.

@Tevada: I just received the WavLink USB-C to HDMI adapter I linked above and it works a treat, 4K@60Hz on my S2721QS, using the HDMI cable that Dell provided with the monitor.
Initially I plugged it in and thought "oh no"; everything looked crap. I had to go into the monitor's firmware settings and 'reset' for some reason, now it's great. Video and scrolling are stutter-free at 4K. Hopefully that's a once-off, but I could put up with doing it once per day.
It's been pretty frustrating trying all the other cables and adapters etc to no avail; if only I'd known I could have just thrown $11.99 at this adapter and had everything work. Hope this saves you some time and frustration.

          • @cobberboy: Thanks very much for the update! Great to hear it works well! I will also get one in preparation for the monitor.

Does the adapter gets hot during usage?

When you say reset firmware setting, is that something you do via monitor’s control or via your connected laptop?

Now i just need to wait for my monitor…

            • +1

@Tevada: @Tevada: I just felt it and yes it's hot. But it's not too hot to hold comfortably, and it's only hot at the HDMI end, not the USB-C end. So far at least.

  • Anyone received a shipping notification yet for any of the monitors? I purchased an S2721Q on the 28th.

I really hope I get it by mid-August, and not late August/early Sept as specified in the eBay listing.

    • Still nothing for me yet. I wonder if whats happening in sydney with covid is affecting their output

      • Yeah, I'm in syd and it's possible that the restrictions are slowing down ops.

  • I currently have two 1080p 24inch's. I do a mixture of Work from Home and gaming. Thinking of upgrading to one each of the S2721Q and the S2721DGF. Does anyone think there would be any issues with this? Will the 1440p and 4k directly next to each other be jarring to look at?

  • Just ordered Dell S3422DWG, seems to be back in stock.

    • Yeah same, seems like a pretty nice screen for screen size, resolution, hz

  • +1

S2721Q is back in stock now.

  • S2234DWG back in stock

  • Hoping to get another deal on the S3422DWG

  • For anyone waiting on their order, I ordered the S2721DGF on 31 July and received today, so turnaround time wasn't too bad.

    • I ordered on the 5th of this month and it hasn't been shipped yet, but your comment has given me hope that it might show up next week!

  • +1

Just got delivery of my S2721Q order today, and got an S2722QC instead.

I'll be darned if it does not look like my current S2721Q (for a dual monitor setup)

  • Just got my Dell XPS 8940 on Thursday. Its a decent unit for that price. Was debating to cancel it at start of week, looking at individual component pricing and given current pricing looked like could only get CPU and GPU and some crappy ram. Next minute got a shipping notification. Quite happy with it so far.
