How many slaves do you go through a week on average?

      • +2 votes

I'm definitely not getting the joke =(

        •

I'm guessing slaves refers to hard drive? May be solidice refers to how many harddrive do you use per week. I haven't purchased a harddrive in ages.

My guess is something to do with them wanting to get others to do the work of looking for deals for them without any pay.

Come on guys, we are all on the same team here. Looking for the cheapest shit money can buy.

Only 2% extra love for eBay plus?!! Shows how much eBay plus is worth, does it?!

    • +3 votes

it's worth $49 a year which i have made back in discounts numerous times

      •

Plus a couple of freebies this year too (e.g. the wool slippers).

      • +1 vote

When I went to cancel it last week, they offered me a $30 voucher if I renewed, which I did. I then got $20 alcohol voucher for free, so, 1yr membership got paid off in the 1st week. Can't complain as this is the 2nd year in a row I'm getting a free eBay plus subscription.

        •

I got a $50 voucher for signing up, which made it free

    •

Do you take everything out of context, or just this?

Any good 8kg washing machines on sale? I couldn't find anything. Am i missing something?

Normally this kind of 15%, 17% eBay Plus deal won't have washing machine.

Wait for The good guys, Bing Lee , etc.

Is it even advisable buying white good off ebay?

      • +1 vote

Yes, make sure you buy it from a reputable seller.

    •

The best deals for washing machines are from Good Guys when there's an eBay discount, on top of Good Guys promo, on top of brand cash back, stacked with discounted eBay gift cards from Cash Rewards or Shopback.

Bought a Bosch 8kg iDOS 2 months back when that happened. Happens only about once every 2 years though, so only for those who can wait.

Ebay Plus is so close to worthless i won't be suprised if it gets rebranded to eBay Minus.

Bugger! Just pulled the trigger on the Yamaha RX-V4A from Radio Parts as I wasn't expecting this to come back. Bloody excellent prices on the RX-V4A, RX-V6A and WXA-50 ($553, $826, $535 with Plus - this is similar to the refurb prices from Excel Hifi).

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/193674585791?epid=24043996921&ha...

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/203122431676?epid=15044044816&ha...

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/202278678861?epid=23019373760&ha...

I've just got the V4A and the WXA, and very happy with both.

    •

Only the aventage range has the preouts though, and the HDMI 2.1 issues are still a thing on the V range.
Would have gone for a V4 or V6 otherwise

      • +1 vote

I'm assuming you know about this https://au.yamaha.com/en/news_events/2020/2020_avr-hdmi-caut...

I don't really see this as a major issue for most people anyway. Anybody with a PS5, XSX or high end gaming PC will almost certainly have a monitor that can take multiple HDMI inputs and then you can send audio to the receiver by eARC or another audio path. If you just want improved audio with relatively modern features, the the RX-V4A is hard to match - hell, we are using it in 2.0 setup and are very happy with it.

Definitely a non-issue for us - no console (and not expecting to add) and I do my gaming on a dedicated PC!

        •

I need 7.1 preouts for the power amps as well. Sadly not on the V6A or V4A

        •

This might be the stupidest question ever but why would anyone run their gaming console or video signal through the receiver? What advantages are there to just using the earc like I'm currently doing? Also is the v6 2.1? And why do they only mention xbox and pc in the article not ps5

          •

            @Deeseeee:

why would anyone run their gaming console or video signal through the receiver?

Old TV with limited number of HDMI inputs and/or no ARC, or maybe to get cables out of sight. It may also help with audio lag on video.

            Also is the v6 2.1?

Not yet, but due with a firmware update, but is affected by the same XSX/RTX issue as the RX-V4A. I believe this doesn't impact the PS5, but I haven't paid much attention to it.

            •

@EthicsGradient: Really so why is everyone losing their mind over the lack of 2.1 receivers when pretty much every TV has earc now? I see so many videos of people waiting/complaining about not being able to run through the receiver and I never got it as I assumed it would introduce lad which defeats the purpose for gaming. Anyway thanks for the info you obviously know a lot more than me would you suggest waiting or getting the v6? I've been dying for an upgrade to a 7.1, currently have a htr series 5.1, I game but on ps5. I did see they released a receiver that had no 2.1 issues the rxa6a I think it was but it was 9.2 channel and extremely expensive, would they be worth it?

              •

                @Deeseeee:

you obviously know a lot more than me

I very much doubt it - I basically picked the cheapest relatively modern av unit I could find and then did a bit of look on issues. I'd check the very extensive whirlpool thread on these units and ask specific questions there.

    •

      Good deals.

This is also a good deal for the previous series' RX-V2085 for those who don't think they will need HDMI 2.1: $1706 with Plus

The RX-V2085 has 9.2 channels so you can do up to 5.2.4 or 7.2.2 Atmos. It has pre-outs.

    • +1 vote

Yep, just grabbed a V6A with 5% gift cards so $786 delivered. Happy with that.

    •

How do you find the wxa-50? I recently got one and connected it to two 8ohm ceiling speakers but not really liking the sound. Also seems you need to be over 60% volume to hear anything. Haven't tested different speakers on it yet, but these speakers worked great on an old Marantz amp.

      •

I've had no problems with (accidentally) reaching deafening volumes, and I've been very happy with the sound.

Have you tried running optical in or one of the streaming inputs to check volume? I also found the web interface extremely useful when I was doing my setup and working out what was happening with volume - much nicer than the phone interface (don't know if there is a tablet version).

Have you tried testing volume using an optical or streaming input - when I tried this, I had a quick lesson about having my volume out from PC set at a bit too low level on analogue!

        •

I haven't checked with optical in as the main use of it is to be a streaming amp. Can you try streaming something from Spotify using its inbuilt streamer and see if the sound quality is the same? Also what speakers do you have it connected to?

          •

@Zotech: I won't have a chance to recheck for a day or so, but my memory was that running spotify via analogue, optical and direct streaming to the WXA gave similar sound (and volume headroom to spare). I'm presuming there are some differences between the onboard DAC and the one on my PC, but I dont remember a noticeable difference to what I was hearing.

Using a couple of Waplington kit speakers from about 10 or 15 years ago..

            •

@EthicsGradient: Actually - just did a quick check on a couple of tracks from Stop Making Sense - frankly the only noticeable difference for me is that the direct spotify stream is about 10-15 dB louder than optical or analogue outputs from the PC. All are perfectly listenable after volume adjustment.

That said, given how subjective music is, I'd suggest you ignore everything I've said and trust your own ears.

  •

eBay plus is really not worth it anymore.

Also what is with ebay now charging sellers a 20% fee? That's outrageous.

    • +3 votes

13.4%? (I mean, it's no fun as fee especially as they charge on postage as well, but it's not 20%)

      https://www.ebay.com.au/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/s...

      • +6 votes

in this promotion, sellers are paying for 14% of the discount on top of regular selling fees. see here

comes out to around 20-25% fees depending on category

        •

          Ouch!

        • +4 votes

How are they supposed to make money selling items with a 20 - 25% fee?

          •

@ChristopherPyne: I’m assuming they don’t have to opt in. If most sellers stop opting in to these promos and eBay realizes that they’re getting less and less from this, maybe they’ll ease up on the fees to make it more attractive for sellers.

Sadly a lot of sellers still opt in, but just jack up the prices. So eBay isn’t really incentivized to do anything about it… they just turn a blind eye.

          •

@ChristopherPyne: Price jack. There is an item I am interested in. With the price jack, even with 17% discount, the price is higher than yesterday's price.

    •

I had eBay plus for 6mth now, only used once. useless.

  •

No good HDD or SSD deals. Bleh

Buy outside of eBay and you'll usually get much better prices. eBay's high fees have killed SSD/HDD bargains, and the ridiculous eBay system where people can list an item '$5 to $500' makes searching almost useless.

      •

Totally agree. I find myself shopping more on Amazon nowadays compare to Ebay… no thanks to E-jack.

Any decent deals on Apple TV 4K 2021 version (64Gb preferred, but 32Gb version will do)?

Whenever there's a coupon or sale on eBay, I can never find it on sale, or if it is available, its price has increased so even with the discount it's cheaper when not on sale. eBay's evil!
