    Pre-empting the question:

27 Super Cool Raspberry Pi Zero W Projects for DIY Enthusiasts
    https://itsfoss.com/raspberry-pi-zero-projects/

    • +1

The cluster project looks very interesting.

For people that has implemented Pi-hole, does it break android games that rely on those pesky ad videos?

      • +3

cant vouch for android, but the only game I've played in a while was dig this on apple, and it skipped through the videos and it used to be annoying how the bottom ad always stopped some moves. It removed that as well.

      • +2

No offence but I’m trying really hard to refrain from telling you to shut your Pi-hole.

      • +1

Depends. It will break any non-cached ads. The game will be able to tell it can't load an ad. Usually, games that just show you ads during gameplay will continue to function as normal even if it can't play the ad. Rewards that unlock after an ad is watched will not work.

      • You can always monitor the sites that are being blocked from the pihole webpage, and whitelist a URL to get things working.

      • Works well for the kids google tablets. Much less ads, unfortunately, it doesn't block youtube ads.

        • Just sideload YouTube Vanced if you want no ads on YouTube.

    • +1

Cheers for that repeat. I often see stuff on OzB & have no idea what it is, or how to use it.

  • +3

    and it's gone

    • No it's not? Look at the delivery times.

      • can't add it to cart

        • +1

I just did. — hangabout, no, you're right. can't add it.

          • @redpen: You're absolutely right, that's a bit silly on the site. It Is out of stock.

  • +1

That didnt last long at all.

This seems to be like burley…

    • When I checked about 30 mins ago, there were only 10 in stock.. so there may not have been that many to start off with…

      • +1

There were over 500 in stock when I checked out shortly before I posted the link. They are so often out of stock I suspect there would be a lot of people getting stock notifications when they come back in

        • +1

I signed up for notification, but didn't get it this morning. I have been waiting for this for a long time!

          • @Hank233333: Check your junk. I missed it last time (about 2 weeks ago) and thought I didn't get a notification email but it was in my junk. I was lucky to spot the email first thing this morning

            • +1

@adamth: Thanks. I checked my junk. And moved it to primary. I got it this time

  • thats gone in a flash

  • +2

Clicks deal, reads useful first comment and goes to look at projects. Yeah sounds interesting, I will buy one…….OOS!

    • +1

ditto, just convinced myself to get one and….. it's gone

I don't really understand the appeal of the Pi Zero W at these prices… You may as well go buy a more powerful model like the 3A+ for $20 more.

    • +11

I don't really understand your point…. That's double the price.

    • +2

Much lower power use if you only want it for simple applications.

      • +15

McOzbargainer buys quarter pounders when he is only hungry enough to eat a cheeseburger because "it's only two dollars more" and proceeds to throw out half of the quarter pounder afterwards

    • As an example, I use one to monitor battery usage of my caravan. Uses about 1Ah per day of a 100Ah battery.

      • +2

What software are you using for that?

        Got a 270Ah battery box I wouldn't mind monitoring!

      • +1

Ahahahahaha you should consider an esp8266 if you're use-case is just a wireless energy meter.

    • pizero W has its uses. just because it dont suit your use case doesnt mean it wont other peoples use case.

    • Wireless and enough power to do simple always-on tasks. I have a couple set up to add wireless media streaming to vintage hi-fi gear, they are bloody great. Why pay more if you don't need the extra power?

    • Different use cases, different form factor…

Would use a Pi 3A+ in a IOT project using solar and a tiny battery if you can get a Zero W or Zero for cheaper.

      The appeal is use case.

    • Pi zero makes sense because it's smaller? For example some DIY hand-held retro console designs require pi zero because the standard pi with its stacked usb ports is too large to fit in the case

Always miss out on these. Do they have like 5 items in stock? Good deal though.

    • two items in stock

  • -4

what's the hash rate? Is it more efficient using a Pi Zero cluster than a Nvidia card?
A lot of people say their Pi Zero is basically paying their mortgage.

    • +1

paying their mortgage? what bums. im going to rival Jeff Bezos in being the worlds riches man.

I wonder how many people that purchased on this post just acted on pure impulse and will just have the Pi Zero WH sitting in their draw unused still in 6 months time, hopefully very little. Sucks that I'm Salty that I missed out on one as been waiting for one for the RGB2HDMI Bloodmosher Amiga 2000 Upgrade Project I'm working on. F'ing Trade Wars.

    • my raspberry pi3b+ and pi4 are sitting idle for that long already.

    • Me too. I want to use a pi zero wh to generate atomic time signals, such as jjy, for my radio controlled watch. However, I didn't receive any notification this morning, even though I have signed up for notification

  • +1

So glad I bought one last night before this post. Needed one to set up Klipper for my Voxelab Aquila. Hope people aren't just buying them with no intention to use it.

    • Crazy how high prices have gone. Used to grab them off Ali at a $5 premium but that has since jumped to a $30 premium

  • Good deal but would love to get a Pi4 at any stage this year…!

  • +2

Pi zeros (non W) are still plentiful. If you are in desperate need of one for a project it's quite simple to take apart a cheap USB wifi and solder the board connections to the pi. Of course you will lose access to the onboard USB port so if you need that then this isn't an option. I've done this on a couple of old zeros I had (pre zero W) and they've become usable now.

    • True about the Non W versions (Good Advice). Was after the Wireless version incase their is any future option to use SSH or SCP to make configuration modifications instead of using a psychical button or software upgrades via Wi-Fi instead of manually writing to a SD Card. Anyways a First world problem!

I have one of these driving my 1990s Gottlieb pinball machine. Through my phones browser I can change settings and test bulbs, solenoids etc as it is the W version. So strange seeing such old equipment run well on a modern pi. Folks think stock of a pi is hard to come across, try finding a cheap project pinball machine since covid hit.

    • What pinball do you have?

  • +1

Damn, I would picked one up for a Hyperion build.

  • +2

This is core electronics' standard price and shipping cost for a pi zero w.

  • +1

I wonder if they will stock this one, or if the Raspberry foundation will created an updated version. I am looking forward to this tiny machine.
