Great deal on this popular Chromebook convertible.

I've had one for a while now and have found it to be a great media consumption device.

    • I ordered a Lenovo one the other day :(

    • It is compatible the staff just dumb.

      • Thought so, the call centre service was abysmal. Had to hang up first time as it sounded like she was vacuum cleaning with headphones on.

        • I often wonder why these large companies with overseas call centres cannot afford HD phone calls? Data is so cheap these days. A simple whatsapp call to Europe whips the voice quality of every multinational call centre call.

This. Isn't the point of USI, that if your device supports USI pens, it will support all USI pens as the standard is 'U'niversal? :)

    • Received the pen (on a Sunday!), it's a bit buggy. Not great. 😔

      • My one worked much better with a new battery.

        • Tested the battery, seems fine, but I will buy a new battery and see if that helps.

          • @John Kimble: You could also raise it with Lenovo and they could send you a replacement, but the process is a bit drawn out.

  • How do I use Office on this? Do I need to purchase an Office APP or something?

    • You can use the Office android apps, or web via office.com if you already have an office 365 subscription (I am not sure if it works well without one).
I find the android apps work for me with onedrive storage instead of google drive files which seem to open read only.
They are not as full featured as in Windows though.

    • How to Install and run Microsoft Office on a Chromebook

"Core editing is available for free on Android devices with screen sizes of 10.1 inches or less." - which is most likely very basic

Here are what is available if you pay for the subscription

  • Amazon is nothing if not superfast

when ordered, it was showing as arriving on the 9th of Aug

    arrived today (4th of Aug)

    fantastic

  • Anyone know a work around to get the youtube app on the chromebook? We set it up as a chilld account and with family link plus parental controls, you can only download youtube kids but our schools educational apps use youtube for the recordings. It seems several people ask the question on the help communities but there doesnt seem to be a clear answer? Apologies if I missed something glaringly obvious as the answer.

    • Doesn't it just open up in Chrome? Or have you blocked that website?

    • Can't on kids account. It's not a Chromebook restriction but google restriction from memory.

Once the kids turn 13 i think the restriction is relaxed

      • I could never understand the age & permissions features … had to create new account with new gmail and used age of 18 years old.

    • Go into the Family Link app > select child > manage settings > then check your filters for Google Play (Mature) and Settings on Youtube (check content settings).

I went through the same last night. Good luck.

  • Sweet build on this thing for the money. Thanks OP.

I'll have a closer look tonight, but has anyone spotted a quality bluetooth mouse at a nice price? Have taken a quick look on Amazon but not whether to try one of the sub-$25 options.

  • Great well built devise. Wanted to use Waze on here but didn't realise no gps(thought it could use hotspot) and Waze isn't available. Anyone know of a workaround. Simple 2 way mirror app from my Android? Thanks.

  • It performs a lot better than it did a few months ago. Props to Lenovo and Google.

  • Expired?

These things are a bargain for the price. Got two in time for lock down home schooling. Once I installed a few office apps, we were off and running. However, no Minecraft, only the educational version. My eldest son is not happy about that.

    • I think someone posted a link in this thread to an article about sideloading Minecraft but I haven't looked at it yet to see how fiddly or how worthwhile the outcome is.

    • Ok I tried this. You can read my earlier post for the instructions.

Unfortunately didn't work for me since my son has a child account which means there is no developer mode which means there is no Linux and therefore no Minecraft.

No way around this with a child account on Chromebook.
For Android, a parent can enable Dev mode, but not for Chromebook.

Best bet is just install Minecraft education. That works fine without hacks

      • Don't you only get ten trials of MC Education though, unless your school has an account?

        • +1

Yeah but I believe most schools have an account, at least in Victoria.

So both my kids have an account through their normal school credentials

  • Can anyone suggest a decent screen protector ? Thanks

    • very expensive on ebay/ali etc if specifically for duet..
i bought generic 11" tablet screen protector from ebay (then trim one side slightly)
      result is not good.

      • Yup, maybe leave it alone for the time being

    • +1

Couldn't find any local stock on eBay or Amazon.

Ended up having to order from Amazon US.
      Ordered tempered glass ones.

Also looked at other 10.x" tablets such as Samsung tab A and S, Lenovo M10, etc. All are different sizes, usually too big so won't fit.

This is back down to $316 for those who missed out

Just saw that. I bought one.

  • Anyone installed reading eggs and seen how it runs? Looking at grabbing one next time a good deal, but mainly for primary school work (although Minecraft would be good too.)

    • +1

Roblox runs well ..I guess Minecraft and Reading Eggs would require similar or less specs ..

    • Minecraft runs well.

Only version you can install is the education edition

      • Thanks, so as long as the school provide a licence through school email should be ok.

  • Am going to install / enable Linux on mine later today.

Don’t want to be too generous or too frugal with how much hard drive space I allocate to it.

Can’t imagine I’ll have too many apps but may install Libre Office, photo editing, FileZilla, maybe Wine to install some Windows apps - Calibrr etc. Shouldn’t be anything too beefy.

I’m thinking 8GB or should I go more?

What are you all running? :)

    • +1

I have the default 7.5GB and run WPS Office, Project Gannt, Nemo, Firefox ESR, Transmission, VLC and Dingtalk and don't have an issue. Don't forget you can share your internal and external storage and Google Drive with Linux as well for file storage though some Linux apps don't play nicely with it.

  • I noticed when not using the Chromebook for some time the wifi disconnects. Any way to disable this?
