Waiting for "don't buy it from Gerry" comments…

Do u choose the blue pill or the red pill? I'm hoping more people will free their minds and realise no HN deal is worth it

      • you mean blue and yellow?

A bricks and mortar retail business tried to make sure it survived in the online ordering world, it should be expected. Politicans put the law in, as the government wants its GST, you should be angry with them if anything. Taxes are a thing and has been since we've had civilisation, being upset by this is inane as it was always going to happen anyway.

Or is this the Jobkeeper thing, yeah, that was cuntish.

        • Its the fact that it was pushed on all prducts, not just products available within Australia that was/is the problem.

          • @MasterScythe: I don't think that matters to the Australian government, if you are spending your $ they want a cut. Australians spent $50 billion on online shopping last year, you think the government would let that slide under without taking a bit for themselves?

How does the government cost effectively monitor what is or isn't available for sale somewhere in Australia? How do online retailers collecting the GST find out, cost effectively, if it is available in Australia? Couldn't manufacturers make minor modifications to products to then be classed as different, for example, a different colour shell of something to avoid paying GST? Cheaper for the government to blanket charge everything and the government gets more GST that way too, so a win-win for them.

The Government must be happy with this though, they make the law, they get the GST, people are angry with Gerry Harvey.

@FabMan: My issue is the way gerry pushed it was a total lie

My issue is his lying tongue and face

          • +4

@MasterScythe: And that it costs more for the ATO to collect than it collects in low value GST. Therefore, we are paying more of other taxes, just so we can pay GST and appease Gerry!

            • +1

@CacheHunter: Is that true? If so, wouldn't it have been true for low cost items being sold in Australia anyway? I thought that is why they got the online retailers to collect the GST, so the ATO doesn't have too. Ebay, Amazon, and others collect it on behalf of the government and then pay it to them.

For me, the issue is more that HN had completely failed at "Online Presence" before GH started the GST push. The website was a disaster of a thing that no major retailer should have been happy with, and there was little-to-no opportunity for online purchases even if you wanted to.
They have since tried to rectify it, but tbh, for me it is still close to useless, limping behind the efforts of businesses in the late 0s if anything.

What that means is that they completely missed the target and, rather than do what successful businesses are supposed to do, and scramble to rectify it by fixing their offering and trying to catch up, they went looking for a way to bring everyone closer to their level, so they could change as little as possible and instead try force consumers to just accept their shitty offering.

GH gets lauded as being some sort of clever businessman - that may have been true in the 90s, today he's a shell of a thing, tilting at windmills because the business world moved past him 20 years ago and he's refusing to either pack up or catch up. It'd be sad if he wasn't such an infuriating arse.

Will buy from Gerry if cheap enough. Won't be paying full price for Gerry.

      • +2

Only during price errors where Gerry will make a lose ;)

  • +27

    Price beat @ Officeworks?

    • +1

ha, explains why the price keeps dropping

    • +3

So its google assistant features will stop working next year?

      • +1

I gathered from that that this Lenovo device isn't a Google Things style OS more like the Google cast type setup

  • +2

Can we use it as a Bluetooth speaker?

    • +3

You can but only for a few things. I've only used it for Spotify and sometimes for its own radio but Youtube and Netflix does not play. Not sure about other streaming services.

    • +1

You can pair it as a bluetooth speaker through google home

    • +2

USB ports for charging? It has one.

    • +3

It has a USB port in the back, refer to the photos in the link

      • -5

Not listed in the description or even the specifications. Pretty poor marketing if you have to scroll through pics to find a key feature.

  • Is this the one that people always complain that you can't dim the clock?

  • +40

Until they return Jobkeeper, HN deals are not really deal given you're funding their profits from your hard earned tax money.

    • +34

Haha, don't forget they lobbied for the GST on under $1000 imports.

      • +21

and took millions in jobkeeper that was never paid back when they made millions

    • +31

HN deals are deals to pricematch/beat elsewhere.

      • +2

        true

      • This is the way

  • +2

This doesn't have the screen it is the essential. Imo this is just a clock google home mini its worth around this much.

    • +1

Yeah, but I already have enough screens. I just need something to tell me the time besides touching my phone at night/ in the morning.

  • +1

Does anyone have one of these and can comment if it worth getting one or even two for each side of my bed?

    • +2

      Yeah they are great

    • +1

Best minimalistic designed clock, just the information you need when you need it in instant (time, temp, date) I preferred it over echo show 5

  • +1

Is this the same as google mini speaker?
Like can I do the same as "hey google weather forecast?"

    • +1

      yes

    • +1

It also has a little weather condition widget on the display and the current temp.

  • +2

Dont confuse this with the other small Lenovo clock as this one is like an old school clock with Google Assistant built in. Sound is probably better from a Nest Mini if you don't need the clock display.

The Coalition has adapted Labor's ‘cash for jabs’ proposal, agreeing to pay $300 to Gerry Harvey for every Australian vaccinated.

  • Showing up as $89 from HN

    • what a turd company to do this.

    • +1

      Still showing $59 for me

  • I tried to do a price beat with Office Works and they told me that, even though their policy says that you have to include the delivery cost when doing a comparison, which for HN was $58 + $7.95 = $64.95 and for OW $59 + $25.95 = $84.95, they insisted that for the actual price beat the delivery doesn't count for them, only for the competitor…. So in this case, the competitor was $1 cheaper, therefore they would only match it by 5c…. but I insisted I wanted it have it delivered!!! they couldn't care less… I hung up on them and filed a complaint through their website as I think this is fraud at worst and misleading at best….

    • It shows free delivery for me, you must be in a remote location. That being said, it is understandable that they wouldn't beat the delivery price, which is handled by a separate company.

      • +1

except that their own policy says that the price comparison is based on cost + delivery charge…. I quote:

        What about online stores?
Our Price Beat Guarantee includes products you find online - as long as the item is identical and in stock. When assessing the PBG from online stores we also take into account the added cost of delivery to your location (if any). If the identical, in stock product can be purchased and delivered to your location via an online store for a total price lower than the one we are offering, we will beat that total price by 5%.

    • I walked into OW this morning without realising that HN had changed their price. I managed to get a price beat on the $59. They gave it to me for $55.

Shame I missed out on the $38 and opt for C&C…instead got greedy wanting to go in store to try for the price beat

      • I should have bought it last night instead of listen to OW sheeps and be a sheep.
