Cheapest plan is $15/month after 3 months (5GB data). Not bad if you combine with your AGL plan ($5 off/month) and pay with a CC that has mobile phone insurance (e.g. Citibank).

    • Or $20/mth without AGL energy.
Minimum cost is $0 for the first 3 months, then $15 over 1 month when you combine with an AGL energy plan, or else $20 over 1 month

      • +3

Even @$15 it’s still expensive! Spintel only $12.95. Gomo And Lebara give you 9 or 8gb for $15. Free 3 months it’s the best part of the deal IMO

        • +1

          Yeah, no deal.

In addition to your deals (which are good also) if you want to compare like for like (Optus Network MNVO) Catch Mobile is $15 PM for 18GB/month, pay as you go so no credit checks, no need to have an AGL service (or any other service for that matter) and no port-out fees.
No international calls, but nowadays that's easy to do without because of WhatsApp, Skype, Teams, Zoom, FaceTime etc.

      • +1

Oh I got tricked! I thought it's $15/month without AGL and $10/month with…. Yeah, no deal in that case.

        • -1

          Seems like false marketing ACC

      • iinet sim has a better deal, $15 for first 6 months includes 40GB monthly

        • This deal is free for 3 months, iinet is $15 a month.

        • Just checked iinet and it's $15/month for the first 6 months

          • @Bekay: Its says per month, it doesn't say $15 for 6 months.
            So that's $90 for your first 6 months, then it's $29.99 a month.

            From IINet

            $15.00 per month
for the first 6 months, then $29.99 thereafter

    • Which card from Citibank comes with mobile phone insurance? Just wondering what is covered in the insurance

      • Mine is the Citi Premier card. I received a letter recently about the new mobile phone insurance coverage.

        • What does it cover exactly? Is it for screen replacement?

  • +29

Not bad, but if you planning to churn in and out be weary of Port-out fee: May be applied if you transfer your mobile number to another provider. $8

    • +4

      Oooh sneaky

    • wow..bummer

    • +7

Oh thanks for the heads up. Seems its free if you get a new number and cancel before the 3 months ends, but porting out is $8

    • +9

Yeah sneaky af. But $8 for 3 months with 50GB/month is not that bad, tbh.

    • +1

To avoid this fee, I normally would downgrade my plan to prepaid first and then do a port in. Save $8.

      • agl doesn't have a prepaid plan, does it?

        • -2

No. What I meant is say if you're with Telstra, I would first downgrade (after my contract finishes) from Postpaid Telstra to Prepaid Telstra.

All you have to do is just go to Telstra shop to make it happen and it's free.

Then port into AGL's postpaid. Save $8

          • +2

@burningrage: What does that have anything to do with porting OUT of AGL?

            • @dotJaz: Lol maybe I may be misreading this but I thought we are talking about how to port into AGL without incurring $8 porting in fee from your existing provider?

          • @burningrage: lol dude u are trying to be funny

            • @thekensai: I swear I am not but any accidental quips I apologize in advance.I thought we are talking about how to port into AGL without incurring $8 porting fee from existing provider.

              • +1

@burningrage: $8 fee for porting out from AGL to another provider. Charged by AGL.

                • @hawkeye93: Ah I see. Although that would be a problem after 3mths but being Optus, I would imagine perhaps Optus could accommodate downgrading to Optus Prepaid despite an AGL product. Just like JB plan with Telstra.

                  • @burningrage: AGL plan is basically prepaid, so no option to downgrade. MVNOs don't have separation between post-paid and prepaid like the big 3.

    • +1

same as Vodafone who still charges this ridiculous fee.

  • Carbon what

    • +1

This is the company that spent years fracking bores in and around farms to permanently leak methane and other pollutants into the air all over our country.

      Polluting ground water, rivers, etc.

And then, if that wasn't enough, planned to go piping all the gas offshore through a leaky network for short-term profit as the bushfires raged.

That's probably the only reason this deal is advertised as 'carbon neutral'

  • +10

"At any time, including as part of a credit assessment, we or an AGL Group member may obtain a credit report about you from a third party credit reporting service"

  • +9

Post paid service. May require a credit check 🙄

  • a quick question. Where can i see the available plans?

  • +1

Click on the link and scroll down. There are 3 plan options

  • Do we have option to choose start date of the service? Or the sim arrives and activated by them automatically?

    • +2

You have to activate the sim with 30 days. So once you receive it it's up to you to start the activation.

  • This seems to have popped up at the perfect time for me - maybe too perfect - so please let me know if I'm missing something.

I'm moving between jobs currently and not keeping my phone number.
I need a temporary one while I get transitioned and then I'll decide whether to keep or not going forward.

I was tossing up between a long prepaid with either Woolworths or Amaysim but this might be better.

If I'm reading right I can sign up for 3 months and then decide whether to continue after that?
If I quit at 3 months I don't pay anything.
If I want to port out the number there's $8 fee (still a lot cheaper than paying for 3 months).

Only thing I'm not sure is about the credit check that people have mentioned. Is that bad?

    • +1

"You can cancel your AGL mobile SIM plan service at any time and there are no early termination
fees associated with this promotion, you just need to pay any outstanding excess usage charges and
fees outside your AGL mobile SIM plan’s allowance."

    • +2

I applied free optus deal previously which involved credit check. Due to the downgrade of total household income (partner started post graduate course), our serviceability decreased but I had no problems with optus credit check. Overall it all depends on your situation but probably it's not as strict as bank loan credit check, I guess.

  • -2

If you pay month to month for this, shouldn’t this really be more of a pre-paid plan rather than a post-paid plan?

  • Just checking back here to see if anyone else got on this plan?

I've setup my phone and activated the sim a few days ago.

    Weird issues:
    1. I cannot receive OTP message (eg. an internet account text you a 6 digit code to confirm your number)
    2. I cannot get iMessage to activate on the iPhone - I've tried all the various online fixes short of reformatting the phone.

Just wondered if anyone else had / is having issues?

    thanks

    • +1

Chat people said to reboot in 1.5hours and it will be fixed. Sim wasn't fully activated on their end.

      • +1

Update - it didn't work after 1.5hours - took another chat and I could receive OTP messages.

Still working on iMessage - but I suspect this is now an apple issue. Maybe it will come good in 24 hours?

        • Same boat with you. Can send text messages now. Although havent received prior text messages.

Also have imessage issue…. Lets keep each other updated.

          • @kgree92: It can be a few hours or even next day. Just wait then.

        • Imessage working now after chatting with AGL yesterday.

Still waiting for text messages that was sent to my number prior to activation

  • How long does it take to port in? Been waiting since around midday

    • Took 2.5 days to port from belong, sms not working as per others above, hopefully temporary. Support didn’t get back to me about the port

  • been 24hrs since activating he sim and my old sim is still working.
    very slow service

    • Are you with one of the optus retailer?
Im currently with Catch, hesitant to port in as im waiting for important calls next few days/weeks.

      • i am with Amayasim
just checked and it is using the optus network.

still waiting to be ported over

        • Ok kogan it is then
          Thanks

    • Belong took 2.5 days

  • Any issue to port in from the same Optus network retailer? Im currently with Catch

  • im coming onto 3 days still not ported over - online status is still ''in progress''

  • When I try to register for the online account management it doesn't accept the account number (ACC followed by six digits).

Please enter a valid AGL Account Number and click Next to proceed.

Tried calling but they disconnected on me lol.

    • +2

After numerous pointless calls and online chats where departments bounced me back and forth, I was told it's not possible to register for the AGL Online Services (or app) unless you are an AGL energy customer. The ACC****** account number will not work.

So while You don’t need to have or take up an AGL energy service, to be eligible for the promotion you won't be able to manage your account online if you don't.

You can't see how much data you've used, so unless they send timely data usage warnings you may be at risk of exceeding the allowance and automatically being charged $10 for a 1GB Data Boost (up to three times in a billing period).

Presumably you'll be able to cancel over the phone before the promo period ends.

      • Tracking your usage
We’ll provide you with SMS alerts once you’ve reached approximately 50%, 85% and 100% of your included data allowance. You can get details about your call and data usage on the AGL app, by calling 131 245, or by visiting here.

        • +1

          https://www.agl.com.au/help-support/internet-mobile/network-…

These alerts may be up to 48 hours delayed

          Hence I wrote timely.

But in any event the bigger point is that it would be nice if every customer could access online services in order to manage their account. Something I'd taken for granted until now …

        • Apparently they can't even help with that …

we unable to see the current mobile data usage for your mobile service. I can see that you have received a 85% mobile data usage alert on 22/09/21, once you reach 100% you will receive another SMS to advise.

Nor can they disable the $10 automatic data adding.

we cannot at this time disable the automatic data top up's as they come from our wholesaler.

      • WRONG.

You can DEFINATELY view your usage in AGL.

        Go here:

        http://myaccount.agl.com.au/

I've just done it now, and I am only an AGL Mobile customer and I don't have any other services with them!

        • +1

That's good that it works for you. It definitely does not work for me and they are unable to assist.

They advised that the ACC number will not be able to register and there's nothing they can do about it.

  • Vodafone>AGL in less than 11hours. Did it Sunday midnight though.

  • -1

    FYI…

    http://www.productreview.com.au/listings/agl

It seems if your AGL Mobile account does not work within 1 day (and not 2 hours as it says on the website!), it means you have failed the AGL Credit Check.

You cannot get an AGL service.

    • +1

Not the case for me. Mine doesn't work until like day 5. I called AGL and they confirmed my profile is good on their end but both online and mobile app shows "We're just adding the final touches." Guess we just have to be patient about it.

      • So, just to confirm, does your portal actually work right now, 5 days later???

AGL tell people all kinds of rubbish, it is not true what they say. Don't believe a word.

        • +1

Yes, my portal works 5 days later.

          • @wwang3: That's great. Looks like I'm wrong on this one. :)

  • i wanted to stick sim in a modem but dont want to risk of exceeding the allowance and being charged. is there a way to stop it? its not shaped and slowed down once you use up your limit like optus is it?

  • just signed up using vpn changed time to perth looks like offer is still valid and maybe extended any way i a did screen print. ref Calls to standard international
numbers..: i guess thats land line and mobile numbers /? ref intl calls and fees see https://www.agl.com.au/help-support/internet-mobile/network-…
ref $300 credit will the 40cent connection fee be taken from the $300 credit or not?

  • Signed up and been using it for 3weeks. Anyone else been getting a surprising amount of spam? Haven't given the number out anywhere, and gotten 4 spam messages so far. Had 1 on boost in maybe the past 3 years. Anyway to stop them, other than Android spam filter

    • Delivery spam, right?

      • Yup. Or voice message 'app'

  • i still havent received sim ordered on last day. how long does it take to arrive?

    • Mine came pretty quick. Must have been around a week from memory.

  • did chat tracked it . due to come next week due to aust post delays

  • Anyone know how to activate it or is it pre activated (for a new number, not port)? Received mine a week ago but haven't opened it, still using up data from another deal.
