        It also means that I need to upgrade from an RPi3 to an RPi4 for the USB3. I've had one sitting in my cart for about 4 hours now.

          Like all things in life, it's all about balance.

          Like I can see the value of buying an Xbox. But I find people who buy an Xbox, PlayStation and Switch all at launch at high costs to be irresponsible with money.

          Same with phones. Buy a quality phone and make it last, sure. But I find buying a new flagship each year irresponsible.

          Just my viewpoint.

            @PainToad: Oh completely agree. I got my Pixel 4a 5g for $99 thanks for JB deals + price matching, rocking my Pixel 2 ($59/month, thanks Telstra website bugs). I'll probably pick up a Series X once they drop below $400-$500. I've been eyeing off the RPi4 + SSD for a while, waiting for it to hit that sweet spot that balances tigh-ass-ness and new-geek-toy-ness. Any day now….

      SSD and Ram are vastly different speeds. Intel tried to bridge the gap with a Midrange product called Optane but it ended up being too expensive as storage and too slow as RAM alternative.

      There are only 3 Major RAM manufacters and they are colluding to keep prices high this is documented in lawsuits consumers sometimes win.

      DDR4 2666MHz has a peak transfer rate of about 21GB/s, double that for dual channel and over 80GB/s in quad channel.

      It rarely hits those, but still a bit faster than most NVMe.

      Open hwinfo and have a look what ur game and movie read speeds are. I think a pcie 3 nvme paired with a 2tb HDD would be enough.

      I store all my games across a pcie3 ssd and a hdd, and all movies goes to the HDD. Never saturated the bandwidth.

      Don't need to over spend, HDD still fine for lot of stuff
