You still have a year left to enjoy unlimited full-quality storage with the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. After January 31, 2022, this will end and you'll have to settle for Storage Saver space like the Pixel 2 gang does.

  • Just got mine a couple of days ago from first deal. Such a great phone, build quality, a charger, cable, headphones, 3.5mm adaptor. Just downloaded all the firmware updates to Andriod 11 and security update to August.

    • The charger could not be original.

    • Was it the US Verizon Model?

Did you install Global/Aus firmware over it and all the frequencies worked?

  • How does people use this for unlimited backups?
Do photos/videos need to be captured from this or can be transferred from other mobil/laptop? Any easy way to capture photos from other phone and use this phone to backup unlimited?

    • Youtube will answer you this question in details.

The short answer is you can use other phones/cam then transfer to pixel.

    • As long as the photos are stored on the Pixel, they can be backed up for free.

    • About free and unlimited photo storage in google cloud, one question if I may: Uploading all my photos (via picel, say 3000 pictures) is understood, However is there any smart way to organise them by uploading in folder/categories? This is almost essential as one one would be frustrated to loacate photos if they were just all located in one folder. This refers to the free pixel photo storage, not the 15gb account storage which probably would accept folders. Any link to instructions or other feedback on this matter would be very helpful. Thanks

Pixel 6/6 Pro release soon. Prices for older Pixels will only go one way, DOWN!

Very interested to see how well Google's first iteration of the custom Tensor chip will benchmark in comparison against Qualcommn's Snapdragon chipsets.

      • Me too, very excited. Custom 'Tensor' chip optimised for Android. This could be the 1st true high-end phone from Google!!!

        • +1

Be prepared for the price tag too :)

@sauce2k: Ozbargain community will always find a deal ;)

        • If the jump of the Intel M1 MBA is anything to go by, the Pixel 6 should fly. I just hope the price is similar to previous models.

Amazon US via Amazon AU is now selling Pixel 3 Bundle Set for $305.13. Is this much better value for money?

    • Cool bundle though not sure if worth extra 55 and charger may not have au plug?

    • They're using the wrong plug type and wireless band is probably different too

      • +2

Mobileciti also sells US model. That's what I received from them.

    • +1

The only extra that "set" has is the stand.

All of the other stuff comes with the Aus P3.

Source: I opened the box of one yesterday (from previous deal)

      • Warranty will be different as well, AU vs overseas product, send it back to Amazon US

  • Excellent camera

  • Awesome deal, i've been using a pixel 3 since launch and it's still buttery smooth. The wide angle second front camera is massively underrated as well. Highly recommend the wireless stand to go along with it, perfect on the bedside table.

  • Makes me wonder, how much stock they still have of these since they've been selling it for this low.

  • -3

I got one of these back in the day coming off a low end Samsung.

I hated everything about the Pixel 3 and wouldn't use a Pixel again.

    • +1

What didn't you enjoy about it? Quite a few other comments have praised the phone, not the other way around.

      • I got the phone just as the Pixel 4 was released, and so expected it to have all bugs figured out. I'm sure there have been improvements, but my main gripes were:

        Very poor battery life.

Couldn't send a portion of a screen grab without screenshotting, saving the file, then opening up the picture, cropping, saving and then sending. External apps didn't work reliably at all.

General clunkiness, bugs, crashes. It felt like the phone / updates were a beta experiment, not quite ready for mass adoption.

(The camera was a big improvement on my low end Samsung, though. And I like the size and shape of it).

        • You can click edit directly after taking a screenshot.

          • @Jebus: That's all good, but bitd you couldn't.

I bought it last time. It turned out to be a US model. Somebody must have replaced the charger. It was sealed with two white round stickers.

    • +2

How do you know it's a US model?

      • +8

I checked at this URL https://store.google.com/us/repair

Mobileciti replied 'using the checking system from a different country or a third-party website will not be accurate because the database will be different due to the reasoning that this is an Australian stock Google Pixel 3'

Then I contacted Google support and they said 'It looks like the device was originally manufactured to support USA carriers.'

They also stated that mobileciti is not their 'authorised retailer to sell Pixel devices in the Australia. '

        • +1

Oh dear… What does the inside of the box look like? Is it obvious that the charger has been replaced?

          • +2

@nosrad: It looked all good inside. The charger is too hard to be pull out from the protective cardboard. I guess it's bigger than the original charger.

        • some checked xda custom rom , said US variant limited support there ? or not compatible

          is that true ?

          • @dcep: I have no knowledge of those custom rom stuffs.

            • +1

@Cc2018: Can you please share a picture of the box?

White round stickers definitely don't sound right. These videos clearly show two transparent square stickers with pull tabs:

              https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEvo1AD7w2o

              https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDOF-wQujdE

              • +2

@nosrad: Yeah. At the beginning, it is the stickers alerted me. The original charger must be US type.

First time to share a photo, not sure if the below link would work.

                https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/150703/90519/pxl_20210…

                • @Cc2018: I'm so glad to have read your post because piecing all these things together made me realize how suspect this is.
The linked picture works. I also have the same round stickers on my box too.
I will need to check if they sent me a US model.
The charger they sent me is dodgy as hell.

              • +1

@nosrad: Those videos are not the best…

The first one is clearly an American YouTuber

The second video, while probably Australian, it is the XL variant.

Should we expect the box of the XL to be exactly the same as the P3?

        • +1

I get this when I check repair

          Pixel 3
          64GB, US VZ, Not Pink
          IMEI: 35XXXXXXXXXX
          Warranty ends Aug 4, 2022

          • +2

@willy000: I can also confirm what other posts are saying.

Seems to be a US Verizon import - OPENED TO SWAP CHARGER & NOT AUS STOCK.

            Checking repair link gives -
            Pixel 3
            64GB, US VZ, Not Pink
            IMEI: 35xxxxxxxxxxxxx
            Warranty ends Aug 26, 2021

        • +1

          Pixel 3
          64GB, US VZ, Not Pink
          IMEI: 35XXXXXXXXXX
          Warranty ends Aug 11, 2022

Charger in box "looked" genuine and not substituted, model PD18W-A5. Obviously not actual genuine Australian charger - no C-tick / SAA certification, just ROHS CE and FC labels (which probably means default SAA certification).

I'll keep it, $249 for SD845 and near flagship camera is a bl@@dy good phone.

    • +3

I can confirm I have experienced similar issues purchasing the Pixel 3 from Mobileciti.

I don't have the Pixel 3 readily available to check if its a US model. I put it away because I found it odd I wasn't receiving SMS during testing.

My box came in bubble wrap with no shrink wrap. It also had two round white stickers on the box unlike the square stickers shown in the videos.

My charger is dodgy AF. The charging brick looked used because it has yucky stains on it. It also has dust and looked like someone had damaged it because it has a chip on it.
I also was struggling to pull the charger from the box without ripping the thing apart so it was easier to leave it in there and use my other charger.

    • +3

Unfortunately I too can confirm this. I’ve checked with Google and the unit sent to me is a US Verizon model and not “100% Aussie stock”.

      • Which method did you use to confirm it is a US model?

When I look at the bottom of the box (where it shows IEMI number) it lists it as US.

the unit sent to me is a US Verizon model and not “100% Aussie stock”

I read somewhere that US variants are missing some frequency bands. Is there a way to check the supported bands of the phone? Maybe through USSD codes?

        • +6

          First clues:

          • The SKU number has "US" at the end of it, but I guess that could be the same for Aussie units.
          • The IMEI starts with "35", which after some Googling I've come to understand means a Verizon model for the Pixel 3.
          • The box has been opened previously and resealed.
          • The charging brick is definitely not original, and seems very cheap.
          • Using the repair/warranty check link provided above shows it as a "US VZ" model.

Finally, I contacted Google support and provided them with the IMEI, their reply:
"I checked with my resources and see that your device is a US Verizon unit. Also, warranty period of the device has already been expired. You can use the device in Australia. However, as it's a US Verizon unit which means Verizon purchased the device from Google and sold it after making changes to boot program. It's possible that some of the features of the device may not work if the device bootloader menu carrier locked."
They also said Mobileciti is not an authorised seller and that they always recommend buying from an authorised dealer.

I contacted Mobileciti and in regards to the not originally sealed box and charger they said QC checks are sometimes done by their their distributor and "We can 100% confirm however that it's definitely from an Australian Google distributor and is covered by a 24-month Australian warranty."

The battery was completely flat but the phone itself seems new and the accessories aside from the charger seem original. Good phone at a good price even for overseas stock, not sure how they can maintain it's Aussie stock though when the manufacturer says it isn't…

          • @PurpleFlamingo: It's indeed the US Verizon model as per what you pointed out.

The warranty booklet does mention "Hardware Limited Warranty - United States", and the "Important consumer safety information" piece of paper has Verizon logo printed on it.

          • @PurpleFlamingo: Btw, Is your phone draining battery fast?

I only installed one app so far, and disabled all other apps that I don't use like Play Music, Play Movie, YouTube Kids, Google Keep, and many others.

Now only a few pre-installed apps and one new app left, the phone was sitting idle for 6.5 hours and drained more than 20% battery.

Checked Battery Usage, couldn't see anything wrong with apps. 11% for Ambient Display.

Already disabled Ambient Display (Always On Screen), but the battery is still draining like hell.

            • @Bargain Fighter: I haven’t noticed it being too bad, although I must admit I had set my expectations pretty low, given it being old stock that’s been sitting around and the reviews at launch saying the battery wasn’t the best.
From what you’ve said though yours definitely seems worse than mine, perhaps it will settle down in due course.

        • I just checked mine also and its got the -US SKU number

          • @willy000: Has anyone had a successful return ?

            • @stickymoo: @stickymoo Nah mine is working fine, I installed CalyxOS on it.

              • @willy000: Is yours the US Verizon model?

So no problems with the boot loader installing calyxOS?

Does that mean you can't use the free unlimited google storage with calyxOS?

Pretty keen to try a custom install

                • +1

@stickymoo: @stickymoo yes mine is the US version

No problem with boot loader installing CalyxOS

No google storage, I didnt install google services, only microG

    • +4

      Another confirmation

I bought 2 - both with white stickers and unbranded AU chargers. Chargers fit in the box OK, but I've never bought a Samsung product that came without a Samsung branded charger.

      https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/39754/90568/img_202108…

Both also arrived with completely flat batteries.

Well, I guess got them mainly for the unlimited storage (one for a friend - it will sit on a shelf, syncing photos from other phones and uploading all night)

    • +2

Does anyone know how this affects the warranty.

Presumably no google warranty, but mobiciti should still be in business for a year (I hope)

      - Phones are US models.

      - Packaging is not in its original sealed packaging.
      - Mobileciti is not Google's 'authorised retailer to sell Pixel devices in the Australia'

      Source: https://www.mobileciti.com.au/australian-stock

I have read somewhere US model variants are missing some Australian frequency bands so there a way to check what bands are supported for this specific unit? eg through USSD codes?

      • +1

contact their sales or support team. Seems very dodgy but see what they'll offer to do to rectify. Hopefully the device is brand new and not a refurb. Not sure if you can test in any way? I didn't buy one but interesting to see such shady practices

      • +1

I think the Australian stock is just a generic note for everything on the website. I have seen other online retailer state Australian stock but is actually US stock. It was just that the phone is already here in Australia, ready to send out…

        • +1

Just checked my unit, still in the box. It could be US stock as explained in various posts. However, in practical terms, does it affect or limit the full useablity of the phone in Australia?

    • Side note, if it's a US version, is the call screening feature available?

    • +6

      Hi Cc2018

We purchased this model via our regular stockist and were not aware that some handsets may have been sourced from overseas by our supplier, so thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are currently investigating with them, but in the meantime we are happy to exchange/refund anyone that is not happy with the purchase and we apologise for the inconvenience. Please message me directly and I will do what I can to help.

      • Who is your stockist, and how do we know you're not just making stuff up? Can you provide some proof?
Everyone is obviously looking at the official Google AU warranty when it comes to warranties. An exchange or refund would not suffice to compensate for the loss of trust because you are already liable for it.

  • Does anyone know if they are still manufacturing these or they have to be old stock somewhere that hasn't been sold ?

    • It has been discontinued for a long time after pixel 4 announced.

      • +1

        so old stock sitting somewhere

        • Sound like a lot that have been received are refurb imported from America

  • Damn, no headphone jack or micro SD slot; both major killers for me. Otherwise, seems like a really good phone.

    • There's a USB-C to 3.5mm earphone jack adaptor if that helps.

  • I am after a spare andriod phone. How does this compare to the Oppo or the Realme phone deals that were listed over the past months?

    • Much better custom ROM development community on the Pixel although Oppo are normally decently supported too. In day to day use the phones are probably all quite comparable to each other.

      • Thanks

        • +1

some reported mobileciti selling these are US variant

some checked xda custom rom , US variant limited support there

I'm still running the pixel 3 since day one. Battery life is bad, as I'm a power user. Have to charge it once during the day for 30mins to get me through. Ram management was terrible, but now it's ok. Camera is still awesome. No lag in apps. I do everything with it besides game. Only thing I'm missing personally is 2 extra cameras on the back for zoom and ultrawide.

  • Does this phone support E-sim?

  • Did they fix the no thumbnail issue on this model?

  • Just bought - thanks TA. Giving up on a useless Nokia 5.1+ for our youngest, add a Spigen case and this is perfect. Will come close to the best phone camera in the house!

  • Worth upgrading from LG V30+ ?

    • I'm wondering the same too as well, i've got the LG V30+ and wanting to upgrade very soon but with the Pixel 6 just around the corner seems very tempting.

  • Can this be used to backup photos/videos from external storage via usb c?

  • +1

    Code no longer working? Expired?

I have the 3XL, which I'm assuming has the same camera as the 3, and find it to be just superb. I'm currently on a roadtrip in the Exmouth, Coral Bay area of WA, and the photos I'm getting, in all light conditions are fantastic. On top of that, the Google photo software/machine learning weaves its magic if you so wish. I'll replace this phone in the next year, but it will be with another Pixel phone.

It's been a full day and a half, and they're apparenty still trying to resolve it…
