Why do they advertise it as being 50% off with a price of $69 from $99?

    • +15

      Save over 50% off SRP

To catch out the plebs. Doesn't work on professionals.

  • Costco have similar, with money back if unhappy, was under $99 from memory (membership required!)

Gearwrench is a pretty well known brand. I would be going them over a costco unbranded set. Unless the set at costco were gearwrench, then would consider it.

They aren't the greatest tools on the market, but i'd be the tool to spend a great deal more when gearwrench offer lifetime warranty on certain sets and have been around long enough to know they will honor defects in the future.

      • +1

        think costco sells dewalt

  • Is this kind of tool or a set of socket & ratchet handle more useful for a normal home?

    • +4

Socket and ratchet has more applied tension; these however will get into tighter spots - depending on the job that needs doing.

If you are only ever taking a nut off something that you have easy access to; I'll typically use the socket and ratchet. If I am working on the car/motorcycle - I'll use socket and ratchet until I cant get the socket into place and then look at these.

As with all my tools; always missing the 10mm as the ex-partner would use them and not return them - always the 10mm as well.

Have 3 sets of Gearwrench already … but these are black

  • One one directional ratchet by the looks of it. I was about to give it a hard time, but if it is a straight shaft you probably just spin it the other way. But then a straight shaft is harder to use in tight places. typical MCM dialogue

    • +1

Single direction, but you just flip it to spin the other way.

These are not good quality unfortunately. I bought some in the last similar deal and the circular bit that turns (along with a circlip and spring) came out after barely any use at all and cannot be put back in. Happened to the two of them that I used. Planning on taking back to the store soon, I’m sure the warranty would be honoured but purchasing these is a waste of time.

  • I use ratchets a lot more often than spanners, otherwise would probably get this set.

    • With these you can use both at the same time.

  • Are these available in AF ?

    • Metric.

Purchased last time they were this price a few months ago.
Have used a few times and happy with them.
Haven't used them on anything seized so unsure of their breaking point yet.

    • breaking point …. as per the instructions with my older shiny set, use the open end to tighten or loosen, they the ratchet end to undo ……the pawl in these things are small and they aren’t a replacement for a ring spanner which unfortunately some people use them for e.g crack tight nuts , etc.

sure someone will comment on crack tight nuts ….

      • OK, good for macadamias?

    • Yep, me too. Very happy to have them and I use them in every chance I get. For this price I cannot think of anything bad to say.

  • Once you go black
You're going to wish you didn't

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but these are not stainless and will rust, I have a similar finished set of Crescent-branded combination spanners.

They get hacked up easily and look crap quickly. Spanners are the most abused/dropped tool in my many boxes.

You get what you pay for!

    • Stainless steel tools are expensive. Do you mean Chrome Vanadium Steel?

And yes I agree. As per my comment above yours these will look shite after regular use.

      • Yeah sorry, are not "made of material that will not rust" :)

      • +3

I actually scrolled up to find your info-less post which referred me back to this post in an endless loop.

        • I know what he means.
These black finished tools are dry and unsealed and can get all scratched up quite easily in the toolbox and can also surface rust too, so a wipe with oil is a good idea. Chrome vanadium is sealed and much more hardy

          • @King Tightarse: Correct.

These would be good for a second set - I keep the ones I mentioned in my wreckers go-bag. I wouldn't want them as my primary set of spanners though.

  • +4

In my opinion, ratcheting spanners that don't have an angle on the head are horrible to use. There's too many situations where they don't leave enough room for your hand to fit around the wrench without scraping across the work surface or not fitting at all.

Anyone recommend anything for $30.00 to get free delivery?

  • I purchased last time, stock level stuffed and and order cancelled, I am expecting the same thing again so dont hold your breath for C&C lol. (yet I ordered again)

    • Sorry to hear that Cpt. I placed an order for this just before 10am and within 20 minutes I received a confirmation email and phone call to advise collection was ready. I had a similar positive experience for a previous C&C deal also. Probably just depends on the store. Hopefully this time around it's better for you!

      • cheers, It wasnt really an urgent order for me (except bloddy 8mm) so if its cancelled i'd end up saving 69 dollars. lol

  • Made in USA?

    • Fairly certain it is not. Most likely Taiwan. I have a Gearwrench breaker bar made in Taiwan also. Maybe someone here who already has this set can confirm.

      • +3

        Taiwan better than china

Thanks got a set. Been meaning to replace these $10 repco specials.

though this limited Edition variant, doesn't seem to be covered by the Gear Wrench lifetime warranty, though they mention "Lifetime Guarantee" which is quite different.

  • Already have a gearwrech set with glossy chrome finish, hmm should i get these…

  • +1

Now if only these were discounted to $69 too: https://www.totaltools.com.au/68591-bahco-3-piece-ratchet-sp…

    • How do these work? 12 sizes in 3x double-ended ratchet spanners (6x?)??

      • +1

4 sizer per spanner, and a reversing lever on each end. I've used and abused them a lot over 3 years and still going strong.

        • Thanks. I'll get a set not on sale. Slims down the tools i keep in the car

  • I bought these limited edition black ones a year ago and they are brilliant
