The secuirty guard was perched on a seat as high as a bar stool right next to the sign in pad. Just inches away. I said I cant sign it that close to you, so he got up off the stool in a very aggressive manner and stood right in front of me, again invading my social distance space so I said keep away from me, and he said You have mental problems, stop yelling, you are mental, dont come in here when you should be in a mental hospital. I said I will complain about you. It was very unpleasant when I was just trying to keep social distance space. However something good happened later, I was 7.50 short for my groceries because I brought the wrong card, and the man behind me insisited on paying it. I will be complainig about the security guard, he needs to be trained on social distancing

The security guard has to deal with some real unique personas and during lockdown I genuinely feel sorry for them. Maybe just give security a wide birth and let them do their job, its perfectly fine for a security guard to be next to the sign in pad.
If you're uncomfortable with the situation you could have opted for contact free pick up and your issue with security and social distancing are resolved. In a supermarket you inevitably are just as close to other patrons as you were to the security guard.
Or shop somewhere else?

Irrespective of whether you believe this is going too far, the shop is not being consistent. If you are forcing people to sign in before entering the store, uphold the requirement to social distance. If you aren't going to bother enforcing that to your staff, don't set lofty standard for your customers (legal requirements aside)

As they were open until midnight, I assume it was one of the big 2 supermarkets. In my Sydney suburb, these have Covid check-ins on almost every wall (ie multiple options on which one to use). Could it be that he thought you were being difficult, wanting to scan one that was just behind him?
