[Pre Order] Schiit Modi 3+ DAC $180.34 + Delivery ($0 with Prime) @ Amazon US via AU

The Schiit Modi 3+ DAC is now available from AmazonAU. This price works out cheaper than importing directly from Schiit in the US or ordering from the Australian reseller Addicted to audio.

Available in both silver and black for the same price. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like the Magni is available at Amazon AU yet, so you would have to complete the Schiit stack with an alternative headphone amp.

I already have the Schiit Modius, but this little Modi has Unison USB and should be a great DAC for your headphone amp or speakers. Note: This is not the multibit version.

You can buy direct from Schiit for $179 delivered…

    • -2

This will arrive faster and be local warranty vs overseas

      • +7

My Schiit Modi via Schiit.com arrived in 7 days with the cheapest shipping option. According to Amazon, the fastest shipping time is 11 days.

It's sold by Amazon US, so no matter where you get it from you will be buying from overseas anyway.

        • Isn't the cheapest shipping rate uninsured and not tracked? Seems like a bit of a risk compared to the safety of ordering from Amazon.

          • @trippy: You can pay an extra $2 for tracked FedEx shipping if you'd like to feel more secure.

            • @AusRetro: I just checked again and since I live in regional QLD the shipping rates are double that of the major cities for Fedex.

        • I ordered a Schiit Vali 2+ recently. They have a good turnaround time with shipping. There wasn't a significant difference in shipping costs so I choose Fedex Priority - It arrived in 3 business days.

+1 for direct purchase with Schitt

I’ve purchased my Magnius and Modius stack directly and received them within a week (via DHL). It was Susarla Italy cheaper than local stock by at least 20-30%.

No extra import tax. The Modius had a scratched on it and Schitt offered a replacement sent out. The warranty is as good as local!

      • Great service. How did they organise the return of the damaged unit? I ordered Asgard 3 + Modius directly from Schiit but didn't have any issues. Had to wait a few months for them to to get stock though.

        • Yeap the return unit is all paid. Just had to show them the receipt of the postage from AusPost.

        • How long did you have to wait for your Asgard and Modius if you don't mind me asking? I have mine ordered since mid April (via Schiit direct) and the wait continues… Arhh

          • +1

@DonIsGood: I ordered a Magnius (backorder) and Modius on June 30th and I'm still waiting (though some people on the subreddit mention that theirs has shipped while ordering on the 14th of July).

          • +1

@DonIsGood: I ordered Asgard + Modius on March 10 and they shipped on April 13.

  • Is there a way to select the correct power adapted ordering this way?

    • +1

There is no power adapter. It is powered via usb, you can plug it into your pc, tv or mobile charger.

      • +1

Yep, just plug it in to your computer via USB. No additional power required.

    Came for the comments.

    ☹️

    • +9

Were you expecting the comments to be a bit Schiit?

    • +2

Looks like a piece of schiit.

    • +4

      'Came for the comments.'

Yeah, me too. I thought with both 'schiit' AND 'DAC(s)' in the title there'd be at at least 30 or 40 piss-take-pun comments before some boring kill-joy chimed in with some boring crap about the actual product.

      Sadly I was disappointed.

      You guys have changed.

  • +1

Not amazing value, but better value than local pricing, and more assurances than US import.

There's probably better value AKM-based DACs if you go digging.

    • Have you got any suggestions on what would be a good beginner stack or combo? Only running PC38x atm but looking at the Sundara's if I can convince the wife.

      • Schiit Magni 3+ is a solid choice for the amp. For DAC I'd have to get back to you, but the Modi 3+ is an obvious starting point as long as you're using it via USB.

Ordering direct from Schiit USA would be best price.

  • +7

    These are schiit

    • +8

It's not the top Schiit but it's a pretty good Schitt

      • +5

        thats the schitt

        • +6

          This schitt is bananas.

    • +2

This gag only works the first 500 times

      • +3

Nah mate, I'll never get tired of them 🤣

      • +3

They seem pretty good to me. Do you not give a schiit?

    • +1

And it doesn't do much on it's own. So, you need a stack of schiit;-)

      • +1

Aaaalright! I have 2 of these, does that mean I have the Schiits?

  • Got the Schitt stack (modi & magni heresy), would highly recommend!

  • First there was this guy named Biggie Smalls, than came along the notorious Biggie Schiit

  • Got the Modi 2 and Magni 2 Uber
    Schiit sounds amazing

  • If you guys don't want to buy Schiit Modi 3+, then you can always go with Fiio K5 Pro for 239 with AU warranty. It is an amp and dac from Minidisc.com.au or A2A.

    • +1

Depending on the use, these really aren’t head to head.

If you are going to use this as a DAC and get the sound out from RCA’s, highly suggest skipping K5 pro and getting the Schiit. K5 Pro measures really poorly from those outputs and making it worse you’d be amplifying those signals.

If you are going to use it as a headphone amp, yeah it’s fine they are pretty powerful and measure well and sound totally fine. (Honestly outside of noise floor, all dacs sound just about the same, everything audiophiles describe are sneak oil in my opinion lol) Schiit doesn’t even have an headphone out so no contest there, you need an amp. Or rca to 3.5mm which, not sure how that would sound.

I have iFi zen DAC V2 and it’s the middle of the road for both, can recommend. Headphone out put is just about the same imo and the RCA’s measure okay too, though not as good as schiit. Can you hear a difference though? i can’t say but i suspect so small if any, it doens’t matter.
But more important it has a bass boost button, which is just a convenient EQ basically and i do use it often, just goes very well for some songs, headphones, speakers. Just fun… Also cheaper than K5 Pro at addicted audio.

  • On a side note, anyone find any good deals for a pair of hd800s?

    • I am still waiting for a deal for HD800S. However, I noticed Sennheiser has HD820 Refurbished for $1,749.95…

      • Based on feedback, i'm avoiding drop and the 8xx.

Thanks! I've seen the scanning websites and found hd800s on those 2 websites, however was hoping for about 1.5k mark to buy in. :)

        • Based on feedback, i'm avoiding drop and the 8xx.

They've been re-tuned again. Those who are free to speak are raving about it compared to the earlier tuning, and you can't pre-order now anyway.

@jasswolf: out of warranty repairs is what i'm mainly concerned about. $1500 for a pair of disposable headphones? Sennheiser won't touch drop headpones.

I know they don't normally fail, but even my focals had to go back for a dead driver 1 year in. I like the option of potentially paying for repairs.

            • @zeomega: So far, Sennheiser have agreed to support out of warranty repair in the US, meaning you'd need to ship it there.

Drop are pushing for more international adoption.

              • @jasswolf: Link please? So many people have had issues trying to get the 6XX and 5XX fixed. And Will himself in the Q&A has said no support out of warranty, but will have support from 3rd party providers without listing them.

TBH, i think all the horror stories about Drop out of warranty repairs is enough. For a 400 500 headphones, sure. For a 1.5k headphones? I'm not sure I am game.

However, as you've mentioned, only shipping to US/CAD at this stage.

                • @zeomega: https://drop.com/buy/drop-sennheiser-hd-8xx-headphones/talk/…

Bottom of the post. If you've been checking in, this was a bit hard to miss given it's a stickied post.

It seems they locked out further international pre-orders at the time this was agreed upon.

                  • @jasswolf: Thanks! I was reading through questions and comments, and somehow it wasn't stickied on mine? Odd.

Good to know that is the case, will more than likely pick one up if that's the case when it's available. Just a want at this stage and not a need.

  • Hope it doesn’t sound too schiit!

  • +2

    Schiit, that's alright!

  • +1

Very strong reviews online… is not Schiit!

    • +1

Quite the opposite, some would say it IS the Schiit!

  • I use my Fiio X3 mk3 as a DAC with my laptop to connect the Edifier R1700. Sounds better than just connecting to the laptop and guess any other DAC would be the same.
Quite a few cheapies available on Amazon & eBay and assuming most would not have audiophile speakers or headphones, is it really worth spending $180 compared to say a Sennheiser GSX 300 for $80 or any other Fos Audio, Syba etc which are also highly rated?

  • +1

I'm just here for schitts and giggles from all the witty and not so schitty comments.

  • +1

Darn, just replaced my borked Modi 2…

Got the Modius and paired it with a THX AA 789 as the Magni and Modius looked silly.

    • How did you manage to bork your Modi?

      • There was an issue with the onboard USB connection. Either heat it up with a hairdryer or leave it plugged in for at least 6 hours and never unpower it.

        • So needs to be warmed up before use? First time I'm coming across a burn out from not enough heat!
