MSI B450M Mortar Max + AMD 5600x

Reality check needed please.

PcPartPicker is saying these are not compatible. The motherboard box says otherwise. Is this a PCPP glitch?

Update:

PcPartPicker was on the money. Despite the March 2021 manufacture date of the motherboard and the sticker on the box, it needed a firmware update to boot.

    depends on the bios/firmware version

  • It's compatible. It just may need a firmware update.

If you read the warning, it'll tell you Warning! Some AMD B450 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Vermeer CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions.

    • The warning just says they arent compatible :

Warning!MSI B450M MORTAR MAX Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard and AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor are not compatible.

But this is on the box so im thinking its updated:

  • Like the others said, it may need a bios update.

Depending on the motherboard, you may need a compatible CPU to run the update. Some boards just need power and the update file on a USB and you just press the bios update button on the board.

  • It's technically compatible, might have to update your BIOS.

list of supported CPU's https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B450M-MORTAR-MAX#sup… scroll right down to the very bottom and you will see it

assuming that the motherboard is manufactured in the last few months, it will have a bios that's new enough to support the CPU.

  • Thanks looks like im good either way:

  • I think there was a deal on that MB, just $67

  • They're not incompatible. If your board doesn't come with the BIOS required to run the 5600X you can always use a USB flash drive and install the BIOS update without the CPU thanks to MSI.

  • They are compatible. Don't stress.
