thats been around for a while now that isnt new. you just have to change a medium meal to a small

    • +6

Yep. Next post will be a Happy Meal is still $4.95.

      • +4

        bonus comes with a toy

        • +3

No matter how many times I select the book option. Always a toy.

        • +1

Actually pretty decent next toy (after space jam wraps up), they will have limited edition McDonald's exclusive Pokemon Cards. Which on the collectable market, will only gain in value.

          • @brandogs: ilong term investment vs a patty and bacon now Hmmmmm….

ill need to start a poll for this i cant decide

            • +4

@schwifty: It was crazy in the US when they did this promo, they had to enforce limits on happy meals from all the grown adults ordering them for the Pokemon cards

              • @brandogs: well i better get in quick before they limit us could go towards my retirement fund

          • +1

@brandogs: When do the Pokemon TCG toys start?

      • Not sure if it was a bug or intentional but for a while if you made ANY change to a happy meal (as simple as selecting Sprite) it would suddenly jump up to $7+

      • +1

        Thanks for the reminder

Happy meal change drink to thickshake

        Great deal

        • can change to thickshake for free?

          • @capslock janitor: Well its not change drink to thickshake

            Thickshake is a drink option

            Still $4.95 so good deal

So you could call it a small cheeseburger meal with. Thickshake and a free toy lol

      • Your argument doesnt check out because:

        • A double beef and bacon burger by itself is $5.60 - with this deal you can save 65c + get a free small chips and drinks
        • A cheeseburger by itself is $4.15 - so you have to add 80c to get the rest of the happy meal.

I think if someone told me that I could save 65c by adding a small drinks and small coke, I'd consider that the absolute essence of a great deal.

        • Or you can look at is this way. ($3.75 Single Cheeseburger @ My Local)

          • Single Item: Small Cheeseburger ($3.75) + Small Fries ($2) + Small Coke ($3.10) = $8.95
          • Small Meal: Small Cheeseburger Meal = $7.20
          • Happy Meal: Small Cheeseburger Meal + Toy = $4.95

Cheapest option for all three items is the Happy Meal at $2.25 cheaper than the next cheapest option.
So this deal is "Add a Toy and Box to save $2.25."

Would love the option to remove the toy and box to avoid the extra waste.

          • +1

@LeftHandSeat: And upgrade the happy meal to a thickshake and no surcharge and sorted

            • @Spending2Much: Yep. Real Coffee Shake is my go to. Scrap that, 70c surcharge now. Strawberry Shake it is. Or switch for a Bottled Water 600ml and save for later.

    • Why the neg vote though?

        • +1

And for people that dont have the app? It fits the rules of a bargain.

          • @Skinnerr: as youll see if you keep reading its available in store but what ever if you found it a deal great but i didnt and we are all alowed to have an opinion

            • @schwifty: Usually people neg non deals/bargains, not 'I already know about it and I have an opinion, therefore - not a bargain'.

              • -5

@Skinnerr: arent people allowed to do what they want and have their own opinions??
sorry it got you so upset

                • +2

@schwifty: Peoples rights as Australians aren't the issue, valid bargains are. Of course you can have your opinion, if you can logically explain why this isn't a valid bargain which you have yet to do outside of your own self consideration. Also, who says im upset? We're just having a discussion here and I personally detest anyones opinion of 'not a valid bargain cos its old, I already know about it and so should you'.

                  • @Skinnerr: Has nothing to do with Australian had to do with being a person no matter what you are.
So you're saying it was known by you and I already said by me so then how am I allowed to say it's not a bargain if we both know.
I'm sorry if you think that my opinion isn't valid but I'm allowed to say what I want and if I'm not sure vote now I feel.

                    • +1

@schwifty: Nah, you're mental gymnastics still hasn't stated why this isn't a bargain.

        • +4

What reminder? Can you share a screenshot?

        • I have never seen it in the app

        • +2

Not only does the app not mention it, it practically hides it, offering a full priced version of this meal as well as the discounted version of the same meal.

        • The app never reminds you of this. As long as one person who didn't already know about the deal sees it and makes good use of it, it's worth posting.

    • +6

I actually didn't know about this so I think the post is warranted ☺️
It's ok to post reminded after a while because not everyone I has notifications on. So thanks OP!

    • I found the post useful. When I'm at Macca's they don't make it easy to find what's cheap (and the app is terrible and doesn't work on my phone). Quick ozbargain search and I can see what's cheap.

    • +8

      Yeah, and it's delicious.

      • +4

I never said it wasn't delicious lmao

        • +1

          Connotation. :)

“we are what we believe we are,” but it seems that the world is also what we believe it to be.

  • Do you need the app to get this?

    • +1

No, it's in store as well.

  • +1

Yep, routinely order this one myself when I'm near a Maccas and pinched for lunch ideas.

The burger is a funny one, makes me think of a lunch-time bacon mcmuffin. really needs a second slice of cheese (although then it'd be a double cheeseburger with bacon and probably cost $8 by itself).

    • I always pay for an extra slice of cheese. Usually $0.60 or $0.70 depending on the location

  • I order this commonly but very regularly the bacon tastes like cardboard because it has been in a heating tray since breakfast. So if you order it at 1pm, it can taste like plastic.

It must be that McDonald's does not have a lot of bacon product to sell after breakfast. So rather than throw it out like they are supposed to, they just reset the timers and let it cook all day long.

    • +1

Agree the bacon is pretty average. Also mine always seem to be way, way greasier than a normal cheeseburger, even accounting for the two patties+bacon.

      • The grease is part of the appeal of this product

    • So you are saying that regularly you like to eat cardboard and plastic?

      • As if you don't know what cardboard and plastic taste like!

    • Yeah I always just chuck the bacon.

I worked there for 7 years and I avoid basically all breakfast food after 10:30 (it's massively overpriced anyway).

Generally the main menu stuff is good, but if you're ordering after midnight, you'll likely get some old nasty stuff.

      • So are you actually supposed to throw the bacon out after a timer goes off? And I guess you aren't incentivised to do this because 1. it takes effort. 2. it wastes money for the owner?

        • +5

Yes, you're supposed to throw out all food into a special basket for counting later (to see how much was wasted).

The saying is "cook less more often" ie only cook as much will be used.

Basically all meat had timers of 15-20 mins (it's been a while). But here are some additional details:

The UHC (Universal heating cabinet) holds 6x3 trays. Stores have two of them in the kitchen - one for meat and one for chicken.

10:1 (the meat for cheesies and big macs) is cooked 16 at a time. During busy periods there will be 3-5 of these trays in the UHC at one time depending on the traffic the stores get. A store in a shopping centre for example wouldn't be as busy as one on a highway.

4:1 and 3:1 (quarter pounders and Angus respectively) are cooked usually 6 at a time. But during busy periods you'd be doing 12 of 4:1. Angus was never really that popular. 4:1 usually had 2-3 trays and Angus was sometimes just one.

But back to your question: rarely did we bother cooking less more often. It was much easier to cook say 20 pieces of bacon and leave it in the UHC over the lunch rush so then the limited grill space could be used for the more popular meats. Every 20 minutes the bacon tray slot in the UHC would start flashing but you press a button twice and it resets the timer.

The only time any store adheres to the rules is when "head office" is in and inspecting. Everything is then done by the book and there is a lot of waste at the end of those days. Next time you're in a store look at the people in the kitchen and see if they double press a button on the cabinet holding the food. You'll also only ever see them take out an empty tray.

          • @SnowDragon: Thanks for the info, sounds reasonable.

I think it is pointless that they even have a 20 minute timer for bacon as it just trains everyone to keep resetting it and whether it has sat there for 20 minutes or 5 hours, it will be reset forever. Might as well just throw the timer in the bin.

Having cooked bacon myself at home and comparing this to the bacon I have eaten in this particular product and how hard it has been, it must have been heating for like 7 hours or something because even if I tried, it's hard to make bacon in to a plastic texture without burning it.

Unrelated but after working at McDonald's for so long, what are your thoughts on the ice cream conspiracy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrDEtSlqJC4

            • +1

@watwatwat: Just got back from a 4h hike so I'm not going to watch that right now but I'll try next week.

But in general the machine being broken meme kind of annoys me. Maybe it's because my stores were quite good for up time. I'm not 100% on why they break so often, but I read a reddit comment a while ago that basically said that the manufacturers of the machines design them badly so that when they break maccas need to pay the manufacturers employees to come and fix it. Not how accurate the comment is, but I guess it wouldn't surprise me.

          • @SnowDragon: Can you ask for fresh bacon? (similar to asking for fresh fries)

            • @Alsoar: Hmm you could but it doesn't mean they'll do it. If it was extremely busy I'd personally just find the most fresh piece. If they were all gross then I'd ask the person on grill to make some fresh. Bacon takes around 45s to cook though, so if you're in drive thru you'll either be forced to park or hold a lot of people up.

Just in general when in drive thru be concise and clear with your order. Instead of asking for a cheeseburger and expecting them to ask if you'd like it alone or with a meal, ask for a cheeseburger meal. I order exactly what I want: "could I please have a small cheeseburger meal without pickles and coke as the drink". Saves us (the cashier and I) both time instead of going back and forth trying to solicit answers.

Fresh meat is a different story. You can ask for meat without salt and pepper and they'll have to make it fresh due to allergies and such.

I hate this burger. It was great when the McOz small meal was $4.95 for a while.

  • +9

This offer doesn't need to be redeemed via the app. It can be redeemed in-store too, between 10:30am-5pm as per my post which actually the original

    • Okay last I tried to order in store via the kiosk it didn't work and had higher price, even at the checkout, although it may have been after 5 pm. That was a few months ago though.

Also, your deal got expired? Someone commented it was no longer available.

    • How come your post is expired?

      • It already expired when it did last year. No need to mark as not expired when there's a new deal for it now.

    • This is not necessarily true via the self-serve machines.

Some machines will let you get it for $4.95, some will let you get it for full price, some won't let you order it at all.

  • With a short mac it is even cheaper!

  • Do McDonalds give app members a free birthday burger similar to HJ's?

    • Doesn’t seem so

  • If the mustard and ketchup were to be removed. add the big mac sauce and lettuce.
I think we can find the cheapest Big Mac deal. Great hack

    • Nah I often get $2 Big Mac offers on the MyMaccas app

  • +1

Thanks as I didn't know about this!

  • +3

Bacon Deluxe meal for $6 at Hungry Jacks craps all over this.

    • Thank you I will get this from now on.

  • Its not app only

You can ask in the drivethru or inside

Its my go to when i want maccas and theres no app deal

  • Just had one few days ago, imo, tastes better when the portion of salt and pepper are reduced.

  • +2

I know it’s not to everyone’s taste but I like this meal. I order it without the sauce and mustard and add my own franks extra hot sauce and some cos lettuce (if I’m bringing it home) and am pretty satisfied with it. It’s the perfect size for me, not too much bun to meat ratio either.

    • Like your home hack.

  • -2

This is a tiny cheeseburger right??

  • +1

The Chicken McFeast meal for $4.95 was my go-to for a good while, and much nicer than this one (probably a menu pricing mistake that they only noticed after a rush from Ozbargain). The Double Beef 'n Bacon tends to be very greasy, and it's terrible when the oil drips out and you get it your clothes.

    • Same. Chicken McFeast was great (especially at $5).

probably a menu pricing mistake that they only noticed after a rush from Ozbargain

Nah, it was intended to be the $5 meal (McFeast was the one prior), I remember in the app it was the only one that had the meal sizes listed as M, L, S (Other items had meal price defaulting to small)

    • It comes in a wrapper

Do you need lessons on how to hold a burger without dripping down your clothes ?

      • That would help, mum.

Personally I'm fine with a wrapper based double beef and bacon from Maccas. But viet pork rolls (fresh baked) are my nightmare. If you have Udemy lessons on how to eat viet pork rolls, mess free, sign me up!

        • Keep the roll in the bag ,

          Eat it kebab style

Doesnt stop the crumbs but thats not a big deal

      • -1

A couple of times I had one and it had this really fine oil that drips out whether you like it or not. You don't really know until you've experienced it.

  • think of clogged arteries i think of this - absolute greasebomb

  • +3

Been $4.95 for ages now. I'm waiting for this to go and the $5 McFeast deal to come back. So much better than this

  • +3

Has the double beef and bacon product been removed entirely? Anyone else seeing this?

    • Yeah wtf maccas is so crap now

    • Hmm I ordered 2 weeks ago.

    • +1

      Yep totally gone

  • +2

It's a shame that this has been removed because I will never pay full price for Maccas.

Has Maccas replaced this with any similar deals or do they intend to in the near future?

    • The 30 Days 30 Deals starts today with $1 Big Mac. Maybe after that's over they will re-instate this deal or something similar, but in the meantime perhaps they don't want people to stack this $5 meal with the November deals?
