Just spent 90 minutes on Chat Support trying to get this done with the $7.50/month data plan. Something about the SIM, its prepaid, can't do this or that, need a different SIM card. TORTURE!

    • $7.50/month ($15/5gb) data plan is a postpaid plan not prepaid, so did you end up getting that data postpaid plan? if so just head to https://subhub.optus.com.au/ and add your Amazon Prime subscription should be that simple unless your having other issues? we are here to help ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜

      • I am in the same boat as @Charlie Dont Surf - spent a lot of time with Optus support (I have a prepaid plan) trying to add $7.50 small data plan. In the end was told that is impossible on my account. Any other tips would be most welcome!

        • Hi olympicwiz, after 90 minutes on Chat Support, my result is that Optus is sending me out a new "Data Only SIM" this week which will - according to the chat support person - be activated with the $7.50 p/m plan once I follow the steps - assuming that this kid of SIM works in my phone.

My problems began with the original $2 SIM that I bought from Coles, and I couldn't create a MyOptus account on the app or activate that SIM online ("systems down - please try later") so I jumped on Chat Support and she kept on telling me the $7.50 p/m plan (which took her a long time to find at that price) was incompatible with the SIM that I bought. Then there was a lot of to-and-fro about me not wanting a phone service ("I just want data") and that's why I want this particular plan, not one of the plans she kept on offering me.

It's been about 5-8 years since I've tried to activate a service with Optus….now I remember why!

          • @Charlie Dont Surf: I have an existing prepaid service with Optus, but had issues finding the $7.50 data sim offer in the app.
Live chat person could not find it and asked me for a screenshot proof that I didn't have. Later I did find that offer on my phone (and took screenshots in case anyone needs it for this reason) and managed to place an order for this $7.50 service. However I still had to call them to get this thing processed.
So hopefully they will send the data SIM this week to activate it.
I could be wrong but I think you would need a 4G modem or a tablet that has Cellular to be able to use it. I think you might still be able to activate it without placing the sim into any device. But I doubt it can work inside a regular mobile phone (I could be wrong there)

            • @olympicwiz: It's a hit and miss scenario on the app with half price deals, yesterday I found it, today nowhere in sight

              • @corky: I agree - I could not find it, then it popped up. I took the screenshots in case I needed to prove it to optus again.
                https://imgur.com/a/R4T0Gex and https://imgur.com/a/9GzxFRp
Interesting that it said in the first instance the broad 50% off deal expired on 22/08 however the specific $7.50 deal expires on the 5/09 so technically still valid.

                • @olympicwiz: I used my phone today and there it was, but on tablet, not there, how bizarre

            • @olympicwiz: You can use the $15 Optus data sim on any unlocked device, any 4G/5G phone, tablet and modem have 3x of my data sims in my 4G Samsung Galaxy Note 9 mobile, my Alcatel 4G Optus modem and my 5G Telstra Wifi Modem

            • @olympicwiz: Gday again, the "mobile broadband SIM" (replacement SIM) that Optus sent me arrived today. I managed to activate the service and, yes, it does work in my Android phone as a regular SIM would - obviously without phone calls and SMS. I've also done the SubHub process, and it all worked fine - I now have Amazon Prime and Optus Sport running. Hope you can get yours sorted.

              • @Charlie Dont Surf: @corky - almost the same here, the offer popped up again on two phones that have My Optus App installed

@Charlie Dont Surf - thank you for asking, the sim arrived yesterday and self activated shortly after, managed to get Optus Sport and Prime without issues.

        • Honestly maybe best talk to a real person over the phone during business hours, also its not possible to use those $2 Coles sims for a postpaid plan (i'm sure) or yous already know that and used them to just have access to Optus app, suggest if yous talk to chat don't mention your prepaid plan just ask to add a new $15 data postpaid plan to your Optus account (have the simcard sent to you) and state you seen on your Optus app the $15 data plan is offered at half price, think yous seem to have chatted to someone that has no idea

  • Guys help me. I opened a new account and linked to Optus. Bought the Alexa for $10. Then yesterday saw a promotion in my account to take $15 off $15 minimum spend on items sold by Amazon au. It was not the WELCOME15 code. It was different code. I should have taken a screenshot and now itโ€™s gone; customer service rep was no help. Anyone know the code?

    • Try buying something over $15 maybe you'll see the discount again at checkout and please post the code here

      • Iโ€™ve tried. Nothing there. Iโ€™ve tried welcome15, prime15, aug15. I hope others have received it too so we can find out the code

        • Was it a prime item? Think that was the case, it was automatically applied to mine on checkout

          • @corky: Yes prime items. Sold by amazon au. I have tried different items.

            • @Meenas: And you're a new prime member?

              • @corky: Yes joined prime with Optus offer

                • @Meenas: Hmm, perhaps the optus offer excludes the discount ?

                  • @corky: They gave me the offer. I saw it while browsing in my account yesterday. Now itโ€™s gone.

                    • @Meenas: Gee, strange, maybe contact them to ask ?

                      • @corky: I did. The guy on chat said he canโ€™t do anything if I donโ€™t know the code. Looks like I might have to give up

                        • @Meenas: You've tried everything then, that's bad luck,

                        • @Meenas: Just looked at the T's and c's, says it may take up to 48 hours to be applied at checkout so might be worth trying again later

                • @Meenas: I tried with adding something of $15 value in my Amazon cart and checked out and didn't see anything like what your saying sorry to say

The mystery Amazon $15 off $15 minimum spend code, maybe one should post this on Ozbargain ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜

    • try looking on the home page on a different browser or your mobile to see if it pops up

      • Tried that too. Chrome, IPad, iPhone, app. Nothing

This happened to me as well. I thought it was something like august15 but none of it worked and code was gone. They must do these one off things which only works for a period of time before disappearing.

    • Prime15 it showed up on some items and managed to use it on quilton tp. when checking the tcs it said that it expires on 31/07/2021 but still worked. just got lucky i guess.

      • Just read the full T's and c's. Can't also have made a purchase in the last 12 months, expires at the end of September, also had to have been a trial membership lots of conditions

      • Same here Prime15 showed up on some items so bought straight away ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜

This Optus Subhud is going to be very handy as one can add all ones streaming subscriptions into the one place and make payment in the one place also, hopefully they keep adding more and more streaming services, though I've noticed they seem to be adding what streaming services that are available on Fetch TV apart from Calm and Inkl services which I've never heard of ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜

  • Does someone know if the amazon prime membership is a year membership they provide? I had signed up to the Optus 3 months free data sim from earlier on and it seems its an eliglbe subscription. Obviously i will cancel that data sim before the 3 months free finishes. Would i get the amazon prime 12 month membership for the whole time or will it cease as soon as i cancel my optus service? Thanks

    • Should cease when the Optus Service cancels. Just sign up for the $7.50/month 5GB plan, if you want to keep it.

      • That deal is expired.

        • Still going till 5th September

          • @corky: I donโ€™t see it in my app. Could you please upload a screenshot so I can show Optus customer support to get the deal? Cheers.

            • @nosrad: I can't see it when I use my tablet, only when I use the app on that phone number , don't know how to upload a screen shot to here, will try to work it out. Olympicwiz posted screen shots if you look back a little..

              • @corky: Please try imgur.com

                • @nosrad: Managed to download the file to ozbargain but can't go any further, olympicwiz posted screen shot did you see? Will try imgur

The Optus subhud Amazon deal is for 12 months but Optus subhud is monthly subscription so Amazon Prime is offered free for 12 monthly subscription

      • +2

Its offered 12 x 1mnth prime. Not 1 x 12mnth prime. Meaning if you cancel Optus, your prime is cancelled

  • +1

Thanks OP and everyone who shared the process. I was also able to have partial refund on existing Prime subscription as well as fresh new 12 months.

  • +1

Can I just cancel my current Prime subscription and sing up again through Optus to have it free for 12 months?

    • +1

That's exactly what I did, had 2 months to go but got on live chat and cancelled immediately.

  • I just ordered $7.50 per month plan. Optus rep said, it would take 3 business days to receive my sim. I tried logging in to sub hub. But it shows error. Do I have to wait until I receive my sim to login to sub hub and activate Amazon prime?

    • +1

The SIM card needs to be fully activated before it's added to your account.

    • +1

The Optus Postpaid simcard will activate on the day it arrives and then you can setup Optus Subhud for that simcard account๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜

  • F' typical - I've finally got my $7.50 plan and I cancelled my prime membership, but the SubHub subscription linking feature is currently broken. Argh

Working now for anyone wondering - was out for a few hours. I've now got Optus Sport and Amazon Prime charging to my new Optus account (and I also created a Kayo trial using the temp prepaid number, for good measure).

      My process:

If did need to cancel my current Prime membership via amazon chat also

While I'm paying slightly more than I was for just prime, I've watched about 6 hours of Premier League already in a few days (replays and live) so definitely getting my $$ worth out of Optus Sport

      • The $7.50 data sim, is it a post-paid plan? Do they do a credit check?

        • +1

Yeah. They do a credit check.

    Great offer! Thanks for posting!

I'm on a special month to month iteration of the $45 plan, paying $35+$2 per month for 50gb data+unlimited international calls and texts with Optus.

This is amazing, basically $50 value for free! Amazon prime is so handy sometimes.

I had prime expiring on September 22, contacted them via livechat to cancel immediately and they did, and even offered to refund me the $5.99 for the month!
    Stoked! Thanks again!

  • optus sometimes have wonky service though

  • Hey guys I'm unfortunately on postpaid Optus so I can't get the free prime, but if anyone could be kind enough to help PM me a Genshin Impact code from prime gaming, that would be greatly appreciated

    • Being on an Optus plan is how you get this - prepaid doesnt get it though

      • Sorry I meant I'm on a prepaid plan, my bad. Would've loved to get the free prime for the Prime Gaming codes but I'm not on postpaid

  • +1

Been with Optus for 12 years but in the past few years their customer service has been on decline and less efficient

  • Update: Worked for me via eSim route.
Had a chat with support and asked him to enable it since I had eSim capable phone.

  • No one ask this but can you sign up for the Optus Sport and cancel port your number out and still keep the Optus Sport subs?

    • If your saying signing up to Optus Sport to get free using Optus Subhud,.. then "No"

Optus Subhud is tied to one of your postpaid accounts for payment, at the moment Subhud is paying for 12x months, charged monthly but free to us for 12 months cause Subhud is offering to pay our Amazon Prime accounts as a 12 month deal, once you remove your postpaid account from Subhud I guess Subhud would stop any subscriptions you have tied with Subhud including also Optus Sport

Edit: But hey you could test your idea and let us know your outcome lolz

  • does this mean i got charged even though im on a optus plan? does the amazon account need to be the same email account perhaps?

To update your membership at any time, visit your Optus SubHub dashboard.

Now all you need to do is enjoy your membership." is this just normal or am i best to cancel it straight away and resign up incase i made a mistake or just wait for the bill and do live chat with optus?

  • Just got charged $6.99 for amazon prime

    • Just got charged $6.99 for Amazon prime too. Did you contact Optus about it/what did they say?

      • Optus said it wasn't them or it'd show on my bill. Contacted Amazon they said it wasn't them either. Found out my card was charged for an email I don't recognise, probably fraud…

  • Amazon prime work fine thank op.

  • +1

prime is now only provided with 6 months unfortunately.

    • Thank you so much! I've updated :)

      • Is that for new subscribers or also existing ones that joined under the previous 12 month arrangements?

        • New only

          • @MiCCAS: Can confirm only new subscribers- I activated prime on 24/11 and just logged in to check that it's still 12 months free :)

  • I've got prime already, was hoping I can get some discount code to keep on file or give to someone else, to be able to use my 6 months, but doesn't seem possible?

  • They added 1 month of britbox. Anyone has used it yet? How does it compare to, say Binge?

  • So is this deal current? It says EXPIRED, but people seem to be getting something out of it.

    • +1

It's changed to six months. I had made an edit to reflect this, however Moderator reversed my changes and marked expired. I've now reposted with six months. Enjoy!
