A GTX960 isn't fast enough for 4GB to matter, a RX570 isn't fast enough for 8GB to matter. Even if I had a 4GB 960 or 8GB 570 I would be better off selling them to fund an upgrade (in normal times)

    • +1

      1GB 6850 to 4GB RX570 here.
I am surely aiming for 16GB new card next year.

  • +14

This card costs more than every video card I've bought in the last 20 years combined.

    • +13

It's also more powerful than every video card you bought in the last 20 years combined.

      • +3

Remember when that was true every new generation, but the cost didn't, or barely, went up?

Cards still had massive leaps of performance when when flagships cost $500 mate.

      • +1

Yeah and remember when our wages went up to (oh wait….)

  • +3

Prices do seem to be heading in the right direction.

CPL though have a hard earned reputation for horrible C/S. Beware early charging and a looooong wait time

Guys if you buy gigabyte just know you have to replace thermal pads not worth it tbh it’s an anoying job

    • Thought you only had to do this if you had it constantly on high loads? Like mining.

      • Mining video editing rendering gaming at 4k

  • It has always been this cheap

  • -1

Not saying the current market doesn't make this price understandable, just know with our currently terrible exchange rate + GST, this should be an MSRP of A$1,099.

So just add to your consideration that this is a mark-up of A$670 to get it now, with little chance of pricing/availability improving drastically in the short & near-terms. Also it's a pre-order, your paying them upfront for the chance of getting it soon.

    • For a RTX 3080 (non-Ti) card, I am waiting for the price to get down closer to $1,000.

  • +51

DO NOT, and I repeat DO NOT give your money to this SCUM BAG company. CPL has had my mate waiting for a pre-order of a Graphics Card for over 6 months, promising he has moved up the queue multiple times, only for him to speak to another person and claim they have no knowledge of any stock coming in or outright ignore responding to him, all the while all other retailers in Australia seem to have had plenty of stock come in within that 6 months time frame.

They are now claiming, get this, since he pre-ordered BEFORE LHR when the GPU came out and was at a more reasonable price, he has to pay the inflated difference in price (600-700 dollarydoos), since its a different revision card; all while having the exact same product name bar the revision. (arguably worth less due to it's decreased mining performance, if he was ever interested in using it for mining)

This shows how devoid of any moral fibre or customer ethics this company has, not only have they stringed him along, but now they are actually at the point where they cannot get his 'stock' due to revision 1 cards not even being produced anymore of the RTX 3080 and are unwilling to provide him the card he ordered over 6 months ago and now the prices have raised since.
I've also heard of many people trying to get refunds have a cancellation fee if they wanted to cancel of up to 10-15% and also cases where they have been fined previously from the ACCC. Do some research yourself and read reviews online, this company needs to get firebombed so all the customers they have mistreated and misled can piss on their ashes.

I can better this. I still have an outstanding preorder from 2016.

      • hahaha what the

      • +1

Yeah that sucks dude, send a complaint to fair trading, they deserve to get into hot water for their behaviour.

    • Did they take full payment at the time? I don't understand how companies can take full payment for goods they don't even have.

      • +7

Yes, they did, they are completely incompetent, avoid them at all costs.

        • I imagine it would be much too late to do a charge back too. Can you report them to the police? I don't see how it is anything but theft.

          • +1

@Guybrush57: I believe my mate has now filed a complaint to fair trading and is waiting to hear back, but it's quite a headache for something that should be pretty seamless. Hopefully they get slapped with another hefty fine if enough people complain to fair trading or ACCC.

            • -8

@frogburger: Your mate really have no say in this situation, their reasoning is perfectly valid

A non lhr and a lhr card are definitely different product

Not receiving stock for preorder that have no eta is within consumer law, just look at Harvey norman

              • +7

@ln28909: I disagree with you there, there are different revisions or amended versions of products all the time. This does not constitute being considered a different product altogether, otherwise it would have a different name and not a revision number.

                I'll give you an example…
If you were to put down an order on a car or a house build that you had to wait months if not years to obtain and they had to change a certain minor specification of the product to meet regulations or recall fixes, imagine them turning around to you after 6 months and saying oh it's not the same product therefore we don't have to provide it to you.

The company then goes on to sell this at an inflated price to another person in the market due to the demand and market circumstances. These are real circumstances that could potentially happen given your logic and the lack of stock of both new cars and property available in certain sought-after suburbs of Australia right now.

Now do you think a company like that would last long considering some of the laws we have for fair trading and consumer protection in Australia?

                • -2

@frogburger: non-LHR and LHR are completely different product, it's not a revision to fix minor issue

a non-LHR 3080 can mine at 100Mh/s, an LHR 3080 can only mine 68Mh/s, the difference is huge

now you can argue that non-LHR model are more desirable than LHR and thus, they shouldn't be paying more to "downgrade", but it doesn't matter, the product that was advertised is a non-LHR model, which is no longer manufactured or cannot be obtained. It is not unreasonable to cancel the order or charge a different price for an LHR gpu as they are completely different product

if they were to offer your friend an LHR gpu for the same price, it is simply a gesture of goodwill and not mandated by the law. In this case, however, cpl have chosen to not offer the goodwill which is 100% in their rights

                  • +4

@ln28909: Umm dude, it's quite literally a revision, the difference between the product he ordered and the one they had advertised for pre order was a revision number only.
Most people believe it or not use these cards for GAMING, their primary intended purpose for the GeForce series of cards, hash rate has nothing to do with what I'm talking about, you are completely missing the point my friend.

                    • -2

@frogburger: see, to prove something to be different, you only need to give a counter example

if I had preorder a non-LHR model, and they don't make them anymore, I would rather a refund than received an LHR model, as a miner, they are completely different products

this is the only counter example cpl needs to justify their decisions

                    • +5

@frogburger: Seems pointless to try reason with some people in here, they just appear to be focussed on mining (just gotta look at all the "Is it LHR" comments on RTX 30 series that come out).

Pointing out the fact that these are gaming cards and using logic just gets you downvoted. Just look at the point I was trying to make on the front page. lol.

Given there's a few people in the forums here that are self confessed miners who haunt RTX 30 series deals, it's no wonder that genuine gamers struggle to get GPUs at a reasonable price.

    • +3

That’s terrible… thanks for sharing, will definitely avoid this company

  • +2

Lol please do let us know if any of this preorder get fulfilled this year

  • +1

i had this card from previous Techfast build, really good performance and temp relative to its cost. The only thing thats negative is its so ugly compared to others 3080 cards

    • Ugly? Have you seen the Gainward stuff Techfast has been trying to flog here.

  • +1

Hmmm thats a fair bit of money to risk with a store some have had pretty bad experiences with….. Hope they don't screw anyone over.

  • +14

This card is available for pre order from PLE at a cheaper price $1759 which is a valid reason for a negative vote apart from all the other comments above that bring into disrepute the preorder experience at CPL

PLE has a card swap option and they honored my $1229 3080 FTW3 non-LHR only two months ago ordered at launch

They are an awesome shop and will allow you to swap card queues and cancel with no penalty whilst in the queue

I bought a entire PC for $200 less then this with a rtx 3060 tbh. if you just wanna play games these super high-end cards seem ridiculous

  • all I will say is I got a new Radeon 6600 XT 8gb for $589 delievered on Kogan and I have never looked back.
gtx 3000 series isn't worth it any more way too over priced.

    • I agree, will be sticking with my 1080 untill i see a 3080 around the $1000 mark

      • I too am in the same boat, but as per Huang himself, the card shortage will last till 2023, so do not expect it to get near 1000 mark. Probably not happening unless crypto completely crumbles.

        • Probably right. I just cant justify it when I bought my 1080 when it was a flagship for $750.

          • @nnolan: I know, i got an used abused mined card for around 400$. Spending 1800$ for a similar tier flagship GPU(albeit new) just 2 generation later is ridiculous. I am totally OK skipping this generation altogether if paying 1800 can buy me a 4080 as they are meant to increase performance by a huge fold.

  • Your litearlly crazy if you buy this. Prices are CLEARLY dropping so this is just there way of locking you in

  • CPL are very dodgy, would not go near, specially with a preorder.

  • price jacked to $1999 rip

  • What is with Gigabyte and their terrible coolers on video cards, sheesh!
Gigabyte for the last 10 years poor quality coolers on their cards! What gives! I remember RMA'ing a Gigabyte gtx 970 back in the day because of trashy fans and noise, I swapped it out for Galax GTX970, cheaper and better quality and never looked back.

    • I had issues with my 2070s. Changed twice. I didnt have any issues with gigabyte Rx 5700 I bought a few months back. I guess it's the NVIDIA cards they screw uo
