      So?

  • Worth upgrading from a Galaxy Watch 3 45mm LTE? I tried WearOS watches before with previous Fossil Gen5 deals and the OS itself doesn't feel like much of an upgrade from Tizen.

There are work arounds to get ECGs & BP working in Australia on Watch3 models so I'm not sure how Samsung are trying to incentivize people who already have Galaxy Watches into buying a Watch4.

    • Is there a trade-in policy?

    • I would say no at this point, I will see if there are any new killer features but GW3 seems to have all I need already.

    • The main benefit at this stage seems to be faster hardware and integration with Google Apps. You're still locked into Bixby and Samsung Pay which is annoying as shit - enough to make me opt out of this and waiting to see what other Smartwatch manufacturers come up with

  • Damn that's a good deal. I had the active watch 2 but it failed after a year and I ended up getting the Garmin Fenix 6 Pro. I feel like for my use case, I prefer having the Garmin as the battery lasts longer. The only downside is not having integration with Samsung Health.

  • Do any watches do music streaming over LTE or is it all just downloaded to the watch to play? I understand YouTube Music is being added to the watch later and I'm trying ot work out whether I can have this in my pocket to replace my phone when I run.

    • +1

I have the Galaxy Watch3 LTE, have Spotify in stalled on it and can use it without my phone, connected direct to my earphones.

      • +1

Ok- but does it play music downloaded to your watch or does it stream over LTE?

        • +2

          Streams it over LTE

          • @MattyAu: Sweet, thanks mate. I hope that it works that way for YouTube Music when the app gets released for the watch.

            • +2

@bxpressiv: I saw a video about it recently and the first YT Music release will only support offline music! 🤯

If I find the video (or article), I'll update here.

Edit: here's a video showing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtFxrWKAWEg (start at about 4 minutes).

              • @l o l: Sad face! Thanks for the link. I guess if it downloads my favourites and offline mixtape automatically and I can shufgfle them, it should be ok. I like the idea of running without my phone but still use my Garmin on my wrist.

          • @MattyAu: Do you know what codecs are supported? If it's only SBC, like my $1,400 RRP Garmin Fenix 6X Sapphire, I won't find it enjoyable to listen to. Would be handy for podcasts though.

            • @elektron: Not sure sorry, all I know is I can stream direct from the Galaxy Watch3 Spotify app to my Bluetooth connected earphones over LTE.

              • @MattyAu: No worries. But, yes, I would expect a modern LTE watch in this price range to support streaming.

    • For these Watch 4s, there's 8gb-ish to download music to play locally (ie. not streamed) - look under "Performance and software" heading on this review: https://www.techradar.com/au/reviews/samsung-galaxy-watch-4-…

  • Great deal! I thought I'd had to fork out $500+ for one of these babies.

  • I'm using telstra prepaid for the phone, what's required or costs if I got an LTE version?

    • +1

Watch support is a postpaid only feature with all three telcos, last time I checked

      • Vodafone support prepaid with their eSim sharing plans

        https://www.vodafone.com.au/support/device/esim?tabs=esim-ph…

Galaxy watch 4 not there yet, but guessing they'll add to the list.

        • So to be clear, though they support eSim for prepaid, getting it onto the watch requires carriers to support NumberSync/OneNumber/NumberShare or whatever they call it.

I have a Galaxy Watch LTE but have not been able to activate it on any prepaid plans so far

          T&Cs here says:
          https://www.vodafone.com.au/plans/numbersync?accordion-id=te…

          Vodafone NumberSync™
Vodafone NumberSync™ (NumberSync™) Subscription is available to customers who have an existing eligible postpaid voice plan, Vodafone Cap and Prepaid excluded (Eligible Plan). Minimum monthly spend is $5.

          • @FirstWizard: Damn, didn't see that. They really need to work on the puntuation of those T&Cs too! Swear that first comma should be a full stop.

  • I have the watch 3 with Lte. Might give the 4 a crack. 44 lte comes to $334.40 with $50 voucher. Now what colour. Black or silver.

    • Silver it is.

    • the have green too

      • +1

Yeah nah. If I was Irish I would have:)

  • anyone have an idea on battery life on these. I have a older one and I would be lucky if it lasts the day which is really my only gripe with it

    • +1

Shit. :) apparently 1-2 days max.

WearOS still needs optimising big time…

  • +1

What's the difference between the classic and the hum … non classic ?

    • +3

Classic - Stainless steel, physical jog dial, some. extra little details on the strap.
Standard - Aluminium, touch based haptic jog dial, plain strap.

      Everything else is the same.

      • +3

Sounds like the Standard also has better Gorrila Glass in it DX+ instead of DX - maybe they thought the raised bezel on the classic doesn't need the stronger glass?

        • How does gorilla glass compare to sapphire?

Legend. Thank you, you just saved me 30% I almost pre ordered from JBHiFi last night for the $50 voucher but this is much better.
Went with the 44mm lte green. I was looking at the classic but after not wearing watches for years, went with the lighter, slightly less bulkier option.
Have a great weekend. Your post just brought me a slab of VB and some prawns ;)

    • Can you bring me some VB and prawns too please? :)

    • can i have a slab full of prawns please

  • +1

What's the go with watch LTE plans? Is it free with your normal phone plan or do you need to pay for another plan?

  • +2

I believe with Telstra its the same plan but $5 a month.
    https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/one-number

  • Nice, Remember that lte service will only work with major carriers for postpaid plans only.

    • Could just buy a dedicated data sim right?

Edit : Never mind I see it requires esim.

  • is there a trade-in policy for smartwatches?

I have a Galaxy watch active 2. quite happy with it but I just want the latest and greatest. I like the BIA sensor, ECG and BP functions ( I have a Galaxy s21). I am so eager to get my hands on the Galaxy watch 4

  • +1

    Was waiting for this

  • The ECG, blood pressure works on the base model watch 4 right?

Also to do it through Westpac is it best to sign up for a Westpac Choice account, deposit 2k to avoid the $5 account fee then close the account later on and no other fees?

    • Regarding the Westpac Choice, yes that would be the best way to do it. I believe you should get access as soon as you setup your account from what I understand but not 100% sure.

      • I have just setup a Westpac Choice account and I can't see any offers or rewards listed on the app or the website. Does anyone know what Westpac products offer the Samsung EPP?

        • It may take some time to activate, I'm not too sure about how long it will take to activate offers. This should be eligible for any Westpac product so it may just take some time to activate first.

        • So.. did it work? any update on the new Westpac account offers?

  • +1

reviews arent great. im holding off.

    • +2

Most are just upset that you need to install all the Samsung Bloatware, not an issue for Samsung users.

But fair enough, big fumble by Google to partner with Samsung only to then just lock all the features behind Samsung.

      • +1

I personally like the Samsung pay over Google pay

      • So if I install the samsung bloatware on my android phone, i can get all the features? (health etc)

        • Apparently no ECG and Blood pressure on non Samsung phones.

  • Can't decide between regular 44mm or classic 46mm as the price difference is not that much. Any suggestions?

    • +1

go 46mm for better battery life if you want sleep tracking and lte

      • +2

Isn't the 44mm and 46mm Classic the same battery size?

        • +1

          yes i believe so

    • +2

I have an earlier model with the jog wheel- it's a great fidget spinner and feels nice with the little clicks, like you're unlocking a safe. The classic, with a band change, could be worn on more occasions. The cheaper one is just a more sports/casual look. Each to his own really, but I'd go bigger- side by side oytu can tell, but once on your wrist either will be fine I reckon.

      • +1

Thanks! Got the classic in silver.

    • I saw photos/descriptions from people who have already received their watches that the standard GW4 was already chipping/scratching easily at the sides. I was somewhat 50/50 as well and that cemented it for me… Classic all the way for the stainless steel and bezel to help protect screen/sides.

  • No google assistant, only bixby

    • +2

google assistant is coming ETA this year I think

  • Can anyone say through experience that if you have the LTE version you can keep it on Bluetooth only when the phone is around (LTE off) and then have it auto switch to LTE when the phone isnt? That way the battery is only being drained more under the scenario of no phone present.

    • +2

Lte is always set to auto mode, only turns on when Bluetooth is disconnected.

      • Great - thanks. Thats enough to justify the LTE difference in price if battery is not getting hammered (noting the extra $5/m sim card)

    • +1

I set watch to aeroplane mode then turn on and wifi off in settings. Bluetooth on or off for notifications

Last longer with 40% in the morning after sleep tracking etc

  • +1

So, this watch can't be used with the typical "OK Google" command?

    • Not yet

      • Any confirmation this will be added? How do users get around this?

  • How come I paid $399 for the galaxy watch 3 40 mm at the start of this year?

    • +5

      A great mystery to all!

  • Does this work with Google Assistant?

    • -2

      Wear os, so yes

      • +1

No, it doesn't have google assistant, yet. Samsung supposedly adding it at a later date

  • +2

Anyone in Brisbane would be able to help? Would like to get one

    • Pm'd

    • Yeah mate. I told daven as well. I'm more than happy to help out

  • I got excited about the Westpac offer but in the App it says 15% off Samsung and Pre Ordering doesn't seem to be an option

    • +3

You just need to click "Shop Now" in that page and it redirects you to the Samsung Westpac EPP where you can order for 30% off.

If it doesn't work in your mobile app, try on desktop and it should work fine.

      • Which Westpac products offer access to the Samsung Westpac EPP?

  • How does this compare to the TicWatch Pro 4G/LTE (https://www.mobvoi.com/us/products/ticwatchpro4g)?

    • +1

This is not available in australia, running Qualcomm 2100 which is very old and this will not be upgraded to wear OS 3. You are better off going for this which is going to get an update sometime next year - https://www.mobvoi.com/au/products/ticwatchpro3gps

      • Does this have LTE? I mostly want a smartwatch for the LTE function so I can leave the phone at home when out exercising.

        • Sure does both the 4 and the 4 classic have lte variants i recommend going the bigger versions for better battery with lte

          • @davenpru: Hang on, now I'm confused…

Are you talking about the Galaxy Watch 4 or the TicWatch Pro 4 (which I linked to originally) or something else?

            • +1

@RangaWal: Sorry I thought U meant does galaxy watch have LTE . The mobvoi one I linked does have LTE but only in the UK Australia doesn't get the LTE Variant . The tic watch pro 4 is a older model and would not recommend

    • Using it currently, got it from Amazon AU (for local warranty). 1GB ram makes the watch to disappear lag.
Cannot have number sync/share support. so have to use it as stand alone service. i use to just to make sure i'm always available for my wife to call (have a special needs kid)
but still works like a smart watch where LTE turns on only when bluetooth / WiFi disconnects.
like mentioned i was lucky to activate eSim on Telstra prepaid last year. so i recharge $5 using voucher from Coles to have some credit for every 45 days to make emergency calls and texts (which i hardly use as i tend to give a missed call from watch to wife if i want to talk to her), so the credit will roll over for next recharge.

personally i wouldn't recommend this as its old processor and won't be upgraded to wear OS 3. if you can afford try to get the latest LTE model

  • -1

after the very first lg urbane from 2015 i stayed away from smartwatches but finally Android catching up with smartwatches, thanks for the post, ordered.

  • +1

    $50 credit code doesn't work:
    Invalid code

    • Same here

    • Are you spending over $350 and did you acquire the coupon from your EPP?

FYI, You can't use a newsletter code from the main samsung store, it has to be from the EPP store to be used.
