Sad they got rid of the long running $1 delivery

    • +3

I was getting so used to $1 delivery!

    • +9

Deliveroo just the latest company to capitalise on the lockdown..

3 months is a lot more generous than Uber's 2 weeks or Doordash's 1 month though.

      • +18

and uber just shifted part of their delivery fee to a service fee, so even with free delivery you're still paying on top of your order

        • +12

Menulog has done the same thing :/

        • +3

Very disappointed to see Menulog does the same thing for charging the service fees.

          • +23

@HappyBargainer: Companies will keep doing if people don't boycott them. We have lived very well before uber eats, menulog, deliveroo, doordash etc were born.
If you really hate high food prices as compared to restaurant direct prices, service fees, delivery fees, priority fees and what not, please stop using these services unless there is a absolute steal.

          • +1

@HappyBargainer: I'd be interested to know if or how Menulog employees benefit more from being directly hired. Uber's add on fees to items and the service itself makes some orders double the cost to go getting it, and then there's the driver/rider tip

        • +12

Yep annoying…. On top of the 20% hike in most menu prices.. Gets pretty expensive pretty quick.. I hardly use these services anymore..

        • +1

It's the door dash effect. They kinda started that off.

But given lockdown using UberEATS so much. Menulog for one place in my area. The other services I have problems with places cancelling orders because they show up on my list but don't deliver here.

At least with Uber they have rewards with places I get delivery from, they always refund on issues, can generally track my orders better. It is the lessor of evils.

        • +1

Seems the days of must get in the car to go out and eat feel so ancient, but it was only like 10 years ago. The only takeout delivery you could get was pizza, or whatever your local pizza bar had and they (profanity) thrived on it. Chicken Parmy from Hanson's was my staple.

But they do have fast-food delivery services in other countries before uber so I guess MAccas and the like just never adopted the service.

    • Wow I was wondering why delivery was so cheap. Just tried today for the same joint I’ve been ordering for the past month and it’s now gone up to $6 delivery fee..no thanks :/

  • +1

    Deliveroo tho

    • +2

Don't blame you, had three issues in a row with those guys. Not sure if it's my area but DD and UE seem to have a better service.

    • +1

I've been charged delivery for free delivery so many times with Deliveroo as well as my food orders not being able to placed or being cancelled after 1 hour wait times. In a week of ordering the credited me 7 times… At least their CS responds with crediting quick.

  • is it targeted?

    • +1

Nah just start the free 90 day trial

  • any difference between Doordash, menulog and deliveroo?

I have a dashpass with doordash so any point of signing up with deliveroo?

    • +3

Deliveroo don’t have service fees (yet)

      • My dashpass ends on 28th September, so I'll probably wait till my dashpass ends then sign up for deliveroo to capitalise on the 90 days

    • I find Deliveroo have more 10-30% off offers and free/cheap delivery more frequently than the others.

I guess it could depend on your area though

      • It used to. They seem to diappear with the $1 delivery

    • +2

My thought, deliveroo has many drivers. If it’s busy you don’t have too wait forever like menulog or doordash.

      • +4

aren't they all the same drivers lol? Ubereats, doordash, menulog, deliveroo and EASI

        • Depends on who is signed up for them.

I find deliveroo will also deliver further.

      • +1

I find Deliveroo and doordash similarly good on the availability of drivers. Uber Eats not so good. Menulog is exceptionally poor - they should spend less money advertising and more on getting drivers to make them half decent

        • But snoop…

    • Yeah, Deliveroo can't be trusted. See my grumble at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/649235

      • Had a similar problem, can never be contacted and take days to resolve problems.

  • So the only difference between Gold and Silver is the minimum order?

  • Would have been good if macdonals was $20 as well not $30 especially during monopoly this month.

    • Just buy lots of McDonald's cookies to make up the difference.

  • +8

Can you signup and then cancel right away to continue the free trial?

    *EDIT- answered my own question.

"You’ve still got 90 days of free delivery left in your trial period. If you cancel now, you’ll lose these remaining days and they’ll no longer be available."

  • -2

Wowww I signed up last night before the free trial and they’re still showing this on my main page rubbing it in my face lol

  • +2

Dumped them a few months ago because of terrible service and mainly use Doordash which are much better. Might resign combine with my $10 cashback with Citibank per month. Thanks

  • +3

Only for those who've not taken a trial before I believe

    • awwwww

  • +1

I have had this offer on my main page for about 3 weeks. It states new deliveroo plus members only on mine. I have signed up before so no dice for me.

  • I'm trying to click on the banner but it won't work. Looks like its for new deliveroo customers only or something

    • Click on my account, that’s where the link is

  • I tried ordering breaky with them this morning. 1hr later, guy was nowhere near and says he delivered it. I go through the sequence on the app - "sorry, we can't help". I hit up live chat, they do a refund. Then the restaurant calls - my order is still there, noone has picked it up. Not sure why the bloke said he picked it up and delivered it. Maybe he picked up the wrong thing but rather than try to fix it he decides to (profanity) me over. Not a bargain if you can't actually use the service they advertise

    • +3

It happens to other delivery services aswell. I got screwed over by doordash last night with the $20 cashback and 50% code. My order got cancelled mid way through delivery and somehow I loss my 3 x $15 referral bonus vouchers.

      • In terms of doordash I don't think you can get both the $20 cashback + 50% and 3x$15 referral, its either one or the other. As I once used the 50% off code and lost referral bonus as well.

        • I wasn't aware of that, where does it say in the terms?

          My plan was to use:

          1st order: $20 cashback + 50%
          2nd order: $15 referral
          3rd order: $15 referral

          • @Homr: Yeh that was originally my plan as well…. I'm not sure where in the terms, but each promo is treated as a separate new user bonus. So if you use the 50% off first two orders you forfeit the referral bonus and vice versa ;\

            • @umoddbro: Doh! That's not nice :( I missed out on $25

              • @Homr: Yeh frankly if I had known I'd have used the 3x$15 instead!

    • that suck… did they try to redeliver it? or refund you?

      • No they didn't redeliver it, I got an email saying my order was cancelled because the store is now closed.

        • ok thats not too bad. just sucks that you didn't get your food.

    • That mix up can happen with any food delivery company, hence an invalid neg. Having used most of them, I find Deliveroo's customer service best of all.

    • Worst service of the lot Deliveroo. I refuse to use the dogs they take over an hour every time

      • Menulog is far worse

    • -1

I had a similar experience. Ordered 18 hours early just to give the restaurant a chance to get my $200+ order ready.
They never got the order because they don't use Deliveroo. Of course I didn't know this til after the order was supposed to be delivered.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/649235

    • Happens with all apps. Waited over 2 hours on Friday night for Maccas on Menulog.

  • What kind of ozbargainer hasn't already done a Deliveroo Plus free trial

    • +2

I haven't done afterpay. Where do I hand back my membership?

      • Haven't done any of the BNPL intro offers yet either, waiting for a big purchase

  • any special coupons or discount for 1st time users?

  • +3

All these delivery services have jacked up menu prices. And that too significant like 20-30% high. Saw that on uber eats, menulog, deliveroo, doordash etc.
Best is to order from restaurant directly. Most of them deliver free anyways. Plus the restaurants make some money rather than paying a cut to these companies.
Think local and do good, support restaurants in your areas by ordering direct.

    • +5

Best is to order from restaurant directly. Most of them deliver free anyways.

There are exactly zero places in my area that deliver outside of these platforms. The closest is probably over 10km away and take forever

      • +1

You just call the restaurant and order delivery from them directly.

They charge you the non-inflated menu price and then additionally the non-inflated delivery charge. The restaurant organizes who delivers it to you themselves since the drivers on all these platforms are the same people.

        Win-win.

    • +1

It depends what area you in. I'm in Sydney CBD and the markup is not 20-30%

    • The prices are jacked because the delivery services take 20% of the cost of the payment, the resteraunts are rising their prices because they cant afford to list as price.

      • That’s double dipping. The restaurants get charged ~30% by these delivery service providers so the delivery service providers should pay out of that to the delivery folks. Instead they jack up the prices plus add service fee and delivery fee!

  • -2

Nice, door dash shadow banned my credit card. Just comes up with BS errors without any specifics, ringing up customer support they tell you to reinstall the app lol

    • -1

      What did you do lol

      • +3

Probably signed up heaps of accounts and used the same payment method lol

        • -3

As any self respecting Ozbargainers would xD

          • @Top G: Stupid idea to use the same payment method when they accept prepaid MasterCard/VISAs via Google Pay xD

Uh, a friend told me that :P

            • @pennypincher98: don't prepaid MasterCard/VISAs cost you $5 to open?

              • @furyou: There's semi-regular 10% off/X pts offers though.
Now that I think of it, can't you just pay in DD gift cards?

  • Anyone that lives in an apartment building, are drivers just leaving your orders at the front of the building and leaving at the moment? And is that a covid rule or are they just being lazy? People in my building have stolen my food before so it’s not ideal lol

    • +4

I live in an apartment. You can instruct them to give you a call on your mobile when they arrive downstairs and you go down and meet them. That's what I do.

  • Didn’t get this offer of free trial, I guess it’s only available to those who have not used the trial before

  • Tried it last night.
"Our network is busy right now. Check back later to place an order." It started working after a few minutes.

Also it changed my suburb from South to North by itself for some reason.

Worst of all the listings are a sea of "Currently unavailable" with available restaurants interspersed between them.
I checked some of the "unavailable" ones in Menulog and many of them were available just fine from there…

  • I wont negative the deal as I also activated the delivery plus. I thought it was a good deal to have 90 day free delivery trial. I can understand why Deliveroo would offer this, as they have one of the worst service and would lose customers super fast if it wasnt for this offer which may be good for some, but for me it has been a nightmare.

I have made an order at Subway for 12pm delivery and waited till 3pm when it said finally a driver has been assigned. Got a message saying delivered, went to open door to check. There was no ring and no order. Spoke to customer support who really seemed they dont care and was told redelivery is now placed. Still waiting till this moment and ready to just give up and ask for a refund. Free delivery is good, but what good is it if you dont get the order on time or not at all in my case.
    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/deliveroo
Im definitely in the group who would give zero star for this company and will avoid using Deliveroo in the future so I can remain sane.

  • Had a bad experience with Deliveroo once. My delivery notes say: Leave at door, thanks! but this delivery driver messages me telling me he is here and asks me to come out, gives me a whole 5 seconds to reply, and then literally runs off with my food although on the app it said it was delivered. Must've been his favourite food or something idk.

  • +1

Don't forget the 4% eGift card discount from Sun Corp.

  • +1

Saw the banner in my app, clicked on it - doesn't seem to go anywhere, went into 'My Account' added Deliveroo Plus, got charged $14.99 straight away lol.
Emailed support, who knows what they will reply back with.
Don't do the same as I did.
