Need Help on Deciding to Buy a RTX 3080

Hi, im in the market for a 3080 but im sure we all know how that is going at the moment. im in no particular rush to get one but i just built a new pc and would like to get one.
i dont have the money at the moment to buy one but my question is would the prices go down towards the end of the year early next year or would it be best to buy asap knowing they could go up with all this mass buying and covid. Im really stuck on what to do since my 1050ti cant really support many games.

Thanks

Intel GPUs being released early next year. Production not ramping up till 2023. Prices, your guess is as good as mine but trend is going up and stock will probably get more difficult to obtain as Christmas draws closer. TSMC also increasing manufacturing costs. It's not looking good.

    • Yea thats very worrying, not sure what to do but im sure alot are in the same boat. so stressful…

      • What you can do is opt for a 3070 or 3060Ti that meets budget instead.

3080 is not even manufactured on TSMC.

      • Intel GPUs will be.

Have a look at the Baltic index for shipping costs. There's going to be a lot of tears this Christmas.

When the 4080 comes out the 3080 should plummet hopefully in price.

Should be even cheaper when 5080 comes around.

It's all bout that 6080 powah

Pfft cheap as chips when the 7080 hits

    • I've heard rumors the 8080 is gonna be the one to get

    That's a definite maybe.

  • At what price are you hoping to get one? If I were you I'd just look out for a decent deal on a 3060ti/3070 if you arent wanting to pay $2k for a graphics card.

    • $2000 or under if possible but highly unlikely. Is there much difference between 3080 and 3070?

  • Just buy it now, sell your sister or someone in your family to fund it. I had a mate that's been waiting for prices of GTX980 to go down enough to afford it, he's still waiting in his nursing home.

    • LuckyBasturd's mate

Oi mate, GTX980 prices are coming down next week; you will see! Now where is my dentures…

With mining on its way back, prices will rise..

but you can join the hdoldlood crew and never buy anything.

Im really stuck on what to do since my 1050ti cant really support many games.

Then don't play anything beyond 1080p resolution or and with all eye candy on.

  • What CPU do you have? If you're coming from a 1050 Ti you might be best off upgrading both, otherwise you'll have a huge bottleneck.

    • I have a Ryzen 7 3700

      • Ok that's fine for any GPU.

  • This is a decent deal for the 3070 Ti:

FWIW, I've been saying right from the start that the 3080's MSRP of around $1100 - $1200 was always completely nuts and that they were never going to go for that price. Just like every MSRP before, cards have never actually sold for that much on the market.

Truth is that you likely will not be able to get a 3080 for < $1200 until the next generation comes out. My hunch will be that the 3070 will end up sitting around ~$1000 in future, with the 3080 sitting around ~$1500 or so, similar to what the last gen 2080 Ti ended up costing.

When the 4080 comes out the 3080 should plummet hopefully in price.

Cause that's exactly what happened with the 2080's going around right now?
