I get that this is slim and portable but there are better gaming laptops for around the same price (although they are likely to be bulkier). Or perhaps get one of the next gen consoles (if you can get your hands on one) and you will still have around $1000 to spend on a productivity laptop, unless you really need a slim casual gaming laptop.

I wouldn't buy a 1650 or 1650 Ti laptop in 2021, lads, not at this price anyway

    https://online.acer.com.au/acer/store/refurbished/refurbishe…

I have this (refurbished from Acer direct) bought it for $1149 couple of weeks ago

    absolute 1080p gaming destroyer

price usually drops to $1149 for the weekend if you want to save a bit more $$$

    • Lenovo Slim weights in at 1.86kg compared to the 2.3kg on acer.

That's one of the main reasons people choose to go for the slim range, not so much for the GPU.

        ^ This.

Am looking for somewhere in between - a lighter laptop with light gaming capabilities. Sub 2kgs and 1650/ti is fine by me, however, am looking for it to be closer to $1k.

        Probably still need to wait!

that's what I thought maybe a year ago, when I bought a slim laptop with a 1650, gaming was really a bonus and the thing was barely over 1.6 kilos

but then I found that graphics are limiting me in what I can play comfortably, and guess what I have this acer now

maybe a bit heavier, but w/e

gaming is top notch now, and it's worth a few more grams

        each to their own though

    • people been buying them, their all over ozbargain dont know why people keep buying 1650s or why they keep making them.

it's all dirty games, mate. they keep making them because people keep buying them.

but why? if you can have a 3060 for the same kind of $$$. ray tracing, more advanced manufacturing process, better output per watt.. 1650 Ti or not Ti is outdated by now.

    • That looks like such a good deal. I was looking at a few second hand 1650 Ti laptops to get into gaming but I might just wait for that to drop.

      Why's a 3060 laptop so cheap? (I don't know much about GPUs).

What kind of games do you play?

      • it is an amazing deal.

3060 has ray tracing and is 2x faster than 1650 Ti

        I play:
        - Control
        - Ghostrunner
        - Mordhau
        - Bioshock Infinite

that is lately. haven't had issues playing anything else on this. everything high settings (apart from Control, where it's either high settings withray tracing off, or medium settings with ray tracing on).

the reason why it's cheaper is because it has a 4C/8T CPU which is not exceptional. more than enough for 1080p gaming coupled with a 3060, but it's not the strongest performer on the market in terms of raw CPU power

who cares, it's plenty powerful for what I need

        • Right, makes sense. Do you ever hook it up to a larger monitor?

I'm keen to get into indie titles so this should be more than enough.

          • +1

@shmingle shmongle: nah, I never tried external monitors, sorry

should be able to output well via HDMI

    Significantly better option IMO.

  • This needs to be half the posted price to justify the specs if not less … Way better prices/deals posted on higher spec'd laptops in the comments.
