TCL 65" C715 4K QLED Smart TV $1095 C&C/ in-Store @ Harvey Norman

540

Hey OzBargainers…. why so quiet on the TCL Tv world?

I've got my old $400 50" TCL P8M from 2019. It's been going strong and worth every penny. Only thing I've noticed is small delays in app menu and maybe the sound when watching certain movies (which I got a soundbar for).

Otherwise it's been 10/10 and I can't fault TCL!

Ive read the C models are better then P's… And I know the 55" or belows are better value in terms of money. But if your after 65" or +… I think we have a winner in terms of value and inbuilt Android functionality.

Anyways we got ourselves a C715 [2020] which IMO is so worth becoz it's up to 30% cheaper than the C725[2021] and really no noticeable major differences!

I've copied and posted directly from their website for your convenience:

Whether you're binge-watching your favourite series or playing console games on a bigger screen, the TCL 65-inch C715 4K QLED Smart TV is your definite source of multimedia entertainment. Showcasing a minimalist design, the C715 blends seamlessly with the contemporary living space.

P.S If your a store who stocks TCL products please start posting promo deals !! I know your tired and things are slow but we are all Covid-19 stir crazy and want better deals for those TV's ! Cheers -

Updated announcement

On my TCL P8M ive noticed Android can freeze or crash at times. To fix this you MUST click the TV Guard app button and click "System Optimize". I do this AT LEAST once a month and runs smoothly straight after. It took me 3 months to work this out but literally fixes 99% of all my issues. (And still does). Don't fall into the trap of buying another one thinking it's the TV'S fault.

Best of luck guys-

Not bad. If its for the lounge, and your couch is 3m or more away; THX specs suggest 98".

Usually too big for a lounge room; but i would be tempted to go for a 75" for the $200 more.

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/hisense-75s8-series-8-75-…

Also, while i really do love TCL, Hisense just has the better (lower) doa/returns rates if you ask the big-box stores.

How about Hisense 75" A7G $1695 with $85 gift card?

      https://www.harveynorman.com.au/hisense-75-inch-a7g-4k-led-l…

    • +3

The 75S8 is not bad either. Keep in mind we have QLED vs UHD and CMO 100 vs CMO 200. CMO is important for those sharp clear sports moments.
Finally VIDAA which I cant rate over Android IMO… I live and die by the Android system at the moment. Literally connects with my android phone for a seamless experience.

    • the 75" you've listed in not QLED like the one OP listed is. not the same comparison

      • +1

True, I consider that an advantage.
I'm not a fan of the QLED headaches.
A good 'test' is if you're the type to notice DLP rainbows, you're at risk of QLED headaches.

Clearly someone disagrees with us though; my comment saying this deal is good was negged.
Ah well, oppinions are like anuses, everyone has one, not everyone needs the details of it, I guess.

        • QLED TV causing headaches is very well known. Have a +, Scythe.

          • +1

@Geekomatic: Sorry, will be looking for a new TV in 1-2 months time. Why qled causing headache? Considering the non oled so either qled, mini led or uhd. Thanks

          • @Geekomatic: In that case can LED cause headaches?

  • +1

I have 65x4US Qled - TCL Android TV. Pretty good for price but local dimming is not good. Youtube crashes all the time with TV restart required. Chromecast only activates when you are in Netflix or Youtube app. Else you wont see cast option on your device. These TV's are not bad for the price though.

  • No stock near me WA.

I bought my P8M 75 for only 1100 and that was 1.5 years ago. Why would I pay 1095 for a 65inch TCL?

    • +8

Because it's a very different TV. Stupid statement.

  • Nice TV with great price. Thanks for sharing. Love it.

  • +6

Too many Android error on my TCL X7. Dont waste your time, unless you can deal with random issue:
    - No Sound
    - TV turn on randomly (middle of the night)
    - Android Crash
    - Suddenly switching to live channel (Streaming) etc.

    • Was excited for new TCL models but reading about software bullshit on them in the forums has completely put me off too.

      • +1

I was hoping that it is just simple software fixed but I have not received any automatically upgrade and also tried to upgrade manually, still same thing.

      • +2

Same. Had my eye on the new C825 mini LED. From all reports a great TV but not only software but apparently the remote has issues too.

    • I have that - TV turn on by it self thing on the Kogan. (I know diff brand, but they probably use similar parts)

I believe it's the remote (which has voice control).
      Or
Its updating while in standby mode, and restarting.
As the times where I did catch it, I saw a full startup sequence.

There is what I believe to be a temp fix, is be really gentle when putting the remote down before leaving for the night.
(Or find how to turn off the voice control)

The more time consuming fix is shutdown (not standby), hold (3sec) the power button for the Kogan.
But this also increases the start-up time, similar to an Android phone.

      • pretty much if I turn off the instant on mode (like the TV completed power off and need 5 mins every time it turn on) then every major issue gone ( pretty much like hard reboot every time)

    • This is definitely a major oversight from people who think it's always as simple as getting a low quality smart TV and attaching a Shield/AppleTV etc… Sometimes it is as simple as that, sometimes the bugs are critical errors that impact usage even when not using the TV's 'smart' functionality

      • +2

Yep this is the sad truth. I've got a 50 inch eko that I'd love to bin due to the crap interface. 30 second lag on volume change and refusal to power on are the two main gripes that can't easily be fixed by a shield box.

I wish they'd go back to just making cheap TVs dumb TVs.

    • I get the random turn ons
      Bit weird
But it only happens every couple of months

      • +6

        considered talking to a Therapist?

        • If it happened more often i probably would ;)

      • -1

I get the random turn ons

I love how innocently you said that lol

    • Ive had the TCL for a couple years now and I'll try answer your 4 random issues:

1.Ok no idea about no sound. Sounds rough… no pun intended.. Is it the back up remote under the couch clicking mute ? Have you tried to update the TV Software to the latest version?

2.Could just be software… yes I have had my TCL P8M turn on in the middle of the night on channel 9. Maybe twice in 2 years. Also another strange thing I found was a couple times when I turned it on in the morning it seemed to open from a reset and load with all the tcl/Android restart Logos from scratch(minor inconvenience
maybe 40sec load time max). Which makes me think it did a midnight reboot or I suffered a midnight blackout maybe? Anyways all the apps and everything else is still there so I dono.

From what I'm reading I think that's the auto update function and if you go into device preferences-about-software update- and turn off auto update, it might help. (Which I've done at writing).

3.On my TCL P8M ive noticed Android can freeze or crash at times.

4.Suddenly switching to live channel? Remote can be sensitive especially when u got kids or animals bumping into it. Could also be fixed with the system optimize as it will clear all the unused cache and apps. Works wonders for me, literally a magic button.

I literally had no idea about the magic system optimize button until 3 months after I got the TV. 2 years later still the best value TV I've ever got.

Hope that clears a few things up

        1. The sound issue just happened recently and the fix is to go to setting and change sound profile to something different and then change back. Reboot did not fixed. Turn off and turn on after 1-2 hours might fix as well.
2 +3 + 4. I basically give up, cannot bother to check if anything can fix the issue or not.
Was talking with a bunch of guys on whirlpool and they are all having sort of similar issue.
I usually watch TV by myself (my wife give up on the TV as well) and no one around me

I bought the TV from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/493636.
all of the fix you mention just point to the buggy software and no one at TCL really bother to fix.
To be fair though, it has been 1.5 years that I do not bother to look up any solution or do any upgrade (auto upgrade cannot find anything for 2 years now)
Still have Android 8.0.0/T658T01-LF1R549 built at Jan 2020….

    • +1

      Your TCL is haunted

  • Would a TV like this be good with a Firestick 4K? So what mean is… just using the TV for output and skipping the tv OS?
Or is there a better tv out there in this price range?
For speakers. Have 2 echos plus and echo boom box that should connect from Firestick for audio.

  • Can anyone confirm if the C/P725 series includes HDMI 2.1?

Website seems to suggest that it does, but reviews suggest not.

If so, this appears to be a decent deal vis a vis the Hisense option:
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/tcl-p725-43-4k-uhd-led-an…
(43in is ideal for my space)

  • TCL was the worst TV i ever bought.
Was an entry level 55 inch back in 2019.
JB-HIFI even let me bring it back it was such crap.

    • It's amazing the different experiences people can have. I bought a 55" TCL in 2019 and it's easily the best TV I've ever had. Still going strong and I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

      • Very interesting, maybe i'll give them another go for my 85"

  • +1

Funny you should post this now and mention the P's and C's The difference as far as I can tell is QLED vs non QLED.
I just managed to get JBHIFI to price a C725 55" for me down from $1195 to $820 because the guy on the phone was reading the P725 model price on the competitors website.
Just goes to show you how much they mark it up. P.s If it were me I'd call JHBIFI number and ask for a price beat on Harvey Norman models. They are usually pretty good at beating prices and sometimes don't even ask you where you saw the price.

  • +1

very good price. 1,193 back in Jan. Im not TV nerd but I find it performs ok and software occasionally glitches. Sometimes its slow to start too.

This is good for the pizza shop

    • Only Pizza?

        Or kebab shop
        Or fish n chips

pretty cheesey comment… but OK with the lot

  • I have a TCL P6 TV that is about 3 years old died on me recently. There was a loud pop and sparks came out of the bottom speaker, no shit. I wouldnt expect TCL products to last long.

    • Claim on ACL. That’s not a reasonable durability.

      • Yea already in process with with TCL. They are trying their best to deny me any fix.

        • They are pathetic. See my comment below. BTW, was it under warranty and did you pay with a CC with additional warranty cover,

          • @chrisharry53: It was out of warranty and wasnt bought with CC with extended protection. In addition, there was a firmware update that totally broke Andriod's quick start function. So after that update, every time I turn on the TV would result in a full restart which requires 2 mins (not kidding) to load. I called their CS to get some help but all they can say is we are looking into it. That was more than 12 months ago. It annoyed the f out of me every morning.

Overall, the TV was cheap (so does most of the TCL TVs) but I learnt my lesson now that spend more = less headache. If im on a budget, i'll probably look at lower end Sammy or Hisense.

            • +1

@KaTst3R: I have to say my experience with Hisense warranty is good.

TV 3.5 years old started developing picture issues. Warranty is 3 years. Paid $3k for it 75"

Hisense sent a tech to look at it. Approved replacement with latest top of the range 4K 75" model….

              They have my loyalty now.

  • Hi guys to clarify, yes I have had my TCL P8M turn on in the middle of the night on channel 9. Maybe twice in 2 years.

Also another strange thing I found was a couple times when I turned it on in the morning it seemed to open from a reset and load with all the tcl/Android restart Logos from scratch(minor inconvenience

The only thing that would make sense is that the neighbours have the same remote and did something or the NSA is on our TCL lol…

    • you probably rolled onto your remote in your sleep lmao

  • I bought a P series TCL a few years back. The TV works well overall but the picture quality is quite poor. My parents own the C series and the quality is a lot better but it doesn't have a very bright panel. Better to spend a little more and get a Hisense Q8 IMO.

  • Want to have the new C825 so bad, the price is still high right now. Wait for the price of 85 inch to drop.

  • +1

Probably because TCL's customer service is utter dog shit.

  • I have TCL 65” C815, purchased 07/2020. Too many issues to mention here. Been to workshop 2 times for one issue that only happens rarely - sound and black screen. Taken videos as evidence. TGG and TCL want it taken away again. Matter with the Tribunal as I am over it.

  • Just saw the new 6 series recently been released but not yet available in Australian market yet, seems like quite a significant improvement over current models.

  • Is it worth getting a 75" C825 for $2925? Are there better options for the same or a lil more money?

Need the large screen and for plugging in XBox X. I suppose none of you worthies have the set and can comment on the pic quality?

    • Yeah I was wondering the same. It's either this or the Sony X90J for me.

      • Yeah I'm trying to figure out which TV will be best suited for 4k pc gaming and need to make sure because I probably won't change the TV for 15 years realistically.. I'm not moving the thing still got a fridge I need to get somebody to move to the skip landfill lol haha.

        • The fridge outside your house would be swallowed up by metal collectors

          • @Bafranz: Oh yeah true that's right.

Ok then I think I just need to move it to the front of the house then.

            Now where is that trolley.

        • TV for 15 years realistically.

          15 years XD

          • @superforever: well I can't be bothered to organise to sell it well I can but worst case scenario is it stays with me forever.. superforever so I gotta make it last and make it count instead of say getting the cheapest TV that is super washed out with terrible picture quality and dies out in like 5 years then it goes to the pile of stuff that need to go to the skip
            Lol

            • @AlienC:

picture quality and dies out in like 5 years

It will be 8K or more in 5 years.

              • @superforever: You think that soon? It's only been getting to the good 4k recently.

Oh you mean like the first batch of 8k which will be bad 8k like how 4k was 10 years ago.

  • TCL C715s claim they can support dolby atmos on the box but all their built-in apps (D+, Netflix) don't output DD+/Atmos audio. Returned it after a week for a Sony X9000 and never regretted.
