.com.au, .org.au, .net.au, id.au Domain Name Registration for 1 Year $9.20 (Renewals $9.90) @ Quantum Core

260

They advertise Cheapest au Domain Names and I believe this is the cheapest Domain names for Australia. This is even cheaper than Zuver used to be at $10.50 a year. I've been using them for Windows Server 2019 VPS Hosting that is also very cheap and reasonable as it includes the license for $15 per month or $30 a month for 2 Core 4GB and includes NVME Drives. Zuver got absorbed by VentraIP and this is much cheaper than $14.95 there so I'm moving over all my domains.

  • Does the domain registration include access to a DNS management console?

    • Yes, of course they ask that at checkout

I see the option to enter custom nameservers but nothing about DNS management. Is DNS management available? If so is it included for free or a paid extra?

        • +2

That's actually a very good question and just a tip for new players.

A lot of these cheaper domain names DO NOT come with DNS MANAGEMENT. Also known as DNS hosting with the ability for you to edit the domain zone file.

Crazy Domains used to do this (not sure whether they still do).

So charge bugger all for the domain then for you to actually custom administer your domain they would charge you an extra for domain management (so you can actually set up your web site with A records, Google Workspace or Office 365 with MX records that kind of thing).

Sometimes this would cost far more than simply going with a reputable domain provider that includes DNS management.

My wholesaler supplies DNS management for free (which we also pass on for free to clients) but .com.au is more like $35 or so for two years.

Just be aware that for fine tuning your DNS zone make sure you get DNS management and if it costs extra, ask yourself whether you're really saving anything…..

@aldroid Contacted their support today and there it is:

      • Thanks for the clarification Levity - so in short they DO host DNS for free (Scenario 3). Bit convoluted on the process but looks like it IS included which is the main thing.

        Good value then!

Hmm nothing on .io.au or .ai.au

    • I don't think many people use those.

      • -1

Pretty sure they're not even real suffixes. Don't know what they're on about.

        • -2

More and more tech start ups are using .io and A.I. specialised companies are using .ai

          • -1

@ilovefullprice: Yes, but .ai and .io are top level domain extensions.

            .ai.au and .io.au are not a thing.

  • what's the maximum number of years you can renew?

    • Think it is 5 years, but I wouldn't unless scared prices will go up.

    • Maximum is five years however. You can only add additional time to a .au domain name during the grace renew period this is the 90 days before the domain is due to expire.

So if you want to register it for five years you need to do that at the initial registration or you'll have to wait to the end of the default one year term.

    • thanks. i transfer a domain and then renewed for 5 years @ $9.90/yr. everything went smoothly

Cloudflare Registrar offers domains at cost price. Anyone doing lower will operate at a loss and eventually raise prices or go out of business.

That would be if they are only selling domain names. It's a break even or loss leader to get people to buy Quantum Core Hosting. I have heard from a reputable source that auDA charge around $8 per domain.

    • I think you have to transfer the domain in and then it renews for cost price, I couldn't find a link in my account to actually buy one.

I ended up buying thorough namecheap which is great.

      • Yeah I couldn't find it either.

Yes but they do not currently do .au domain names. The good news is according to their website they're adding a bunch more now pretty rapidly and they're finally extending into more country code domains.

But as of yet .au is not on that list of expansion most of the new gTLDs I just from existing companies they have registry agreements with e.g Donuts and XYZ.

Yeah Cloudflare does not support registrations as of yet still its transfer and only.

      • They support new registrations now.

        • so how much does a .com.au domain cost? it appears you need to register and log in to get the price

          • +1

@c64: As I stated above while it appears they're now allowing new registrations they are not yet allowing .au domains.

  • New to blogging, and would like to buy a domain for my wix blog. Is it cheapest to use a service like this and get an .au domain rather than using the domains that you can get through wix.
