I got the Citibank platinum FEE FREE for life card. Will I be eligible for this?

    • very keen to find out as well.

I don't see any reference for 12 or 18 months wait..

      • +1

CItibank seem to of removed this requirement as of late, but do go through it with a fine toothed comb.

I recently took out two citibank premier cards within 4 months of each other and achieved the bonus spend on both occasions with points the following month

        • I queried this with their support:

Our policy is that a new unsecured credit account can only be opened after 9 months have passed since your last account was opened.

          • not closed ! So all good I think
          • +1

@skinny: I also queried their support, I also have the fee free premier card; they said I would be eligible so I am now applying

            • @roddo: Same, I have already applied

            • @roddo: Did you call up and ask? I cancelled last citi bank card in late October last year so should be good..

  • What will happen to these cards when NAB takes over?

Will they keep the Citibank name, is it worth applying still?

    • I think 100k points for $175 is a pretty good deal already. Plus their phone insurance is arguably better than Amex Explorer's, on paper.
Can't give you personal advice but I think it's a good deal. I just can't apply for it cos I'm refinancing in a few week's time

      • The fine print is

$175 annual fee first year and each subsequent year when you spend $48,000 on eligible purchases and cash advances in the previous year, otherwise $350.7

I read that as if you don't spend $48,000 in your first year you'll be up for the full annual fee

    • NAB is taking over?

What will happen to the citibank fee free for life credit card? I assume half of ozbargainers will have that card.

      • Only NAB will know at this stage

    • You've got another 2ish years before they do anything. The deal isn't even fully approved by ACCC/APRA.

  • +1

First the free cards are gone, then the $49s, then the $99s…

My last Citi churn was 100k, $5k spend, $49 :(

    • +1

100k Qantas points or Citi reward points?

      • +1

100k Qantas. I have a spreadsheet keeping track of my churns and only do Qantas.

The offer was 100k points, $5k spend, $49 first year, $444 after but 50k extra for second year.

Last churned October 2019, cancelled it after the 100k didn’t hang around for the $444!!

    • NOOOOOOOOOOOO

    • +1

They forgot to charge me the 49er so I got my 100k for free haha

  • What's the wait period for previous customers? 12 months, 18 months?

    • Citi is a strange one
The last couple I've churned didnt have the 12 month waiting period

    • +1

I cannot see the wait period condition anywhere…

      • Citibank probably the only bank in Aus that don't have this waiting period. I was once held both Signature cards at the same time (one was from the free-for-life offer many years back).

        • Actually I called them and they said 9 months from previous credit application.

          • @skinny: When did you call them? I've closed one in Jan and reapply for another in mid Jun. They were Premier cards.

            • @timhn: About 3 weeks ago.

            • @timhn: Did you get any pro rata refund of the annual fee like you do with NAB?

  • +1

Need to add that it requires $4000 in purchases

    • Done :)

    • There's plenty of workarounds for this though - just buy Coles and Woolworths vouchers for example, you can then spread out the $4000 over months/years.

      • Still spending $4000 ;)

  • this or the velocity option?

    https://www1.citibank.com.au/credit-cards/citi-rewards-veloc…
    80k Velocity points
    $99 fee
    $3k spend

    • +3

Wait for Velocity to be 100K points. $99 for 100K points is better than 150K points for $298.

  • I think the "QANTAS PREMIER PLATINUM" is also issued by citibank and has 90K for $200 first year.

this may be the alternate option if you already have a citibank credit card (especially the fee free for life) and this offer cannot be used

  • I think the 60k/$0 st george deal is best. lol at paying an AF.

    • 60k/$99 st george ?

      • $0

        • I had this card earlier this year. I don't think the $0 annual fee offer is still around.

        • I cant find the $0 with 60k, care to share the link?

          • -5

@gotcha: you can do it, its on ozbargain

            • +2

@txb: Oh the set up free St George account and then get annual fee waived. Yeah bit different from it being straight-up $0 for new customers.

    • Am curious the amount of paperwork required for existing customers.

  • A question on churning, how do you normally make up the 4k in 90 days when you have very few outgoings? I can only think of a few but not sure if I have missed any;
    -Crypto, Gold or similar
    -Prepaid visas
    -Gift cards to individual merchants

    • +5

sometimes the timing of applying for credit card helps. You can pay car rego, health insurance, bills. If they don't accept credit cards directly, consider pay it through Sniip.

    • Time to get a large family!

    • +3

Accidentally overpay child support and refund via bank account 🤭

      • Wait… you mean you don't all pay child support via cash?

      • Say again? You can pay CS via credit card?

        • Yes
Via sniip BPAY or direct via cc if govt spend is counted.

          • @randomusername2017: I looked into it thanks heaps. 1.5% charge though? Am I reading that right? That's like $25 a month for me :(

            • +1

              @SKiZO: Yeah 1.5%
Works ok here 2pts per $ on Amex
Plus I meet the spends and get refunded to the bank account.

    • +1

I overpay bills. No issue so far.

      E.g, electricity/council/water bill = $200? Pay $2000 into it instead 😁

Either leave it in there so you have no future bills for a while or request refund later.

  • +1

Does this have the 12 month exclusion and can I apply for this and the Qantas Premier Platinum at the same time?

  • Ahhh got the 75k version of this offer earlier on in the year. Oh well. But gee the benefits run deep on this card. Citi generous with all the $10-20 cashback, which helps.

  • does council rates payment go towards the 4k spend

    • +1

if you can pay by postbillpay or BeemIt you'll probably be ok
      otherwise probably not
Citi are pretty strict on eligible expenses - they don't allow public transport, tolls, and parking stations as well which is a bit unusual

  • So only 0.5 Point per $1 on "in person" purchases? "Citi Premier Qantas Credit Card earns 1 Point per $1 for Eligible Transactions made online, 0.5 Point per $1 spent everywhere else on eligible Domestic Spend and 1 Point per $1 spent on eligible International Spend."

    • Yeah not great.

  • In terms of CCs for government/council spend, when in doubt either pay the bill through Sniip or ZipPay.

  • thanks, applied. last citi card I had was before covid

  • The Qantas Premier Platinum may be a better deal if you consider the points per $1. For all domestic spend, you get 1 point per $1 for the Qantas vs Citi's 0.5 for in-store purchases.

It wouldn't take too long for you to get your extra 10,000 points over the year you have it.

    • +1

don't think either card is worth holding after the bonus, churn and burn

      • Depends how quickly you churning and burning, I try to hold my cards for 6ish months with only churning 2/3 a year.

  • Do you get pro-rata yearly fee refunded if you cancel early? Nab does it right?

    • Did you ending up finding out?

  • do we get all 100k points once qualify spending in 90 days? or some of it is subject to leave card for another year? noticied website says upto 100k points.

  • Applied on Sunday and approved Tuesday, pretty quick turnaround.

  • Citi PayAll11 Spend
Earn uncapped12 Qantas Points on everyday expenses such as rent, taxes, education fees, property management fees, childcare and miscellaneous bills

This is a huge bonus I did not see earlier, I have since applied solely because of it. Add a Citi PayAll prior to the 31st of October and it is fee-free. Meaning you can set your rent up to go through your credit card and earn 0.5 points per dollar, this will also surely help with the minimum spend.

Edit, too good to be true excluded from minimum spend criteria • any Citi PayAll Payments,

However, I still think earning points on my rent which usually I can not for fee-free is great.

    • Is Citi PayAll fee free now? It was 2% fee for all payments.

      • Until 31st of October it is

    • I think Citi PayAll IS included… from page 4 of their T&Cs (see second point):
      “ Eligible Transaction means
      • any purchase excluding (but not limited to) Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, BPAY payments, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating
a business, payments to other Citi accounts, bank
fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges, transactions made using Points and government related transactions. Government related transactions include transactions with government or semi- government entities, or relating to services provided by or in connection with government (for example
but not limited to or transactions made at Australia Post, payments to the Australian Taxation Office, council rates, motor registries, tolls, parking stations and meters, fares on public transport, fines and court related costs).
Please note that whether or not a transaction is an Eligible Transaction will be determined based on card scheme information ultimately provided either by the merchant (including individual outlets) or its financial institution (including information about the type of business conducted by the merchant). This means that, for example, spend with certain merchants may be characterised as spend with a government related entity and therefore not an Eligible Transaction, even if that merchant is not in fact a government related entity; or
      • any Citi PayAll Payments,
but excludes any transaction that you are not permitted to make under your Account Terms and Conditions.”

    • Hi iam a bit lost here.. how exactly can you pay for rent using your credit card? any advice appreciated thanks

  • What can I get fit this many points?

  • How long did it take everyone to get their card? Been a week now and still haven’t received it

    • +1

Received the card today, so all up took 8 days.

      • Received Mine today got approved on the 6 Oct,

    • I applied on 11/10 and approved on 29/10

  • I've just closed a Qantas Premium platinum card, i hope this won't stop me from getting the bonus on this since they are both citi?

    • Did you ask citi?

  • Does the minimum spend exclude PayAll?

    • +1

No, they are included. From their T&Cs:
      “Eligible transaction means…..
      • any Citi PayAll Payments,
but excludes any transaction that you are not permitted to make under your Account Terms and Conditions.”

  • Please to report after a lot of heckling got the card, 2 weeks later points credited after 4K spend.

Time to move on to next one now

    • Did you ask for fee refund?

      • I am about to cancel after paying.. they have charged me $175.. will try and seek refund, but I am not expecting to get it back

        • +1

Just do webchat with CS and they said they will credit

          • @timhn: webchat was having issue… called them.. they gave $100 back "one time offer" :)

            • @skinny: Lol, is thar $100 just a random number from CS? Not base on calculated number of dates you held the CC?

              • @timhn: Yes! I did have $100 to pay back that might have been used

  • Two things to note:

    • if you regularly filter spam calls, you can miss their attempts to phone you to verify certain things, and have the card automatically declined. I called them and they restarted the process and rapidly approved it - without actually requesting any more information, which was confusing, and I think without triggering a 2nd credit card check.

    • when you get the card and download the app to activate it, note that, confusingly, there seems to be multiple "citi" labelled apps on the Google play store. The first one that came up on the store for me actually led to "86 400" bank that automatically signed me up to a debit card, which I had to then cancel.

  • Applied on 21/11, got the approval message today. Now waiting for the card.

  • Can you pay with ApplePay for the Deliveroo offer to get this cashback?

  • I have had this card now for about 2 months. I have already spend over the $4000, so i am awaiting the next statement which should be send this week,,

I do notice that not everything is considered an eligible purchase, but as usual there is no logic to it, as I cannot work out what they consider a goverment payment. I know a few years ago, when I had the qantas card from citi, they were very broad, thinks like water, public transport were considered goverment.

Anyway I think I have spend enough and should hopefully get the points soon

  • Can confirm this card works for the $15 Amazon Gift Card / 3 Months Free Amazon Prime :)

Very easy process to apply and be approved, then 7 business days card delivery, quite quick.

  • +5

I logged into my account today, closed my card and clicked on the live chat and asked for partial annual fee refund which was charged on 5th November, and was instantly approved for a full refund of the annual fee :) was told it'll be sent via cheque
