how is this a bargain.. herald sun content has only gone from being 100% free to now costing 2.95$ a week! cant even call it freebie. all the 2 month free period does is to give people warning that in 2 months this will not cos u $

Exactly, not even close to being a bargain.

      • agreed.

..cue herald sun commercials saying it's "just the price of a coffee a week".

Unfold the full experience of Victoria's best stories and storytellers

I love how the Herald Sun doesn't even put up the pretense of providing journalism in their marketing blurb — they just call themselves "storytellers". Of course, in most dictionaries, one of the definitions of "storyteller" is "one who tells lies… a person who has lied or who lies repeatedly": http://www.thefreedictionary.com/storyteller

At least the physical newspaper has other uses… :)

    • Whatever you wipe with the herald sun will stink afterwards….. no thanks ;)

    • Journalists have always described themselves as story-tellers; just because something is a story it doesn't mean it's not true ;)

It's always been free so this is an anti-bargain

of to the ABC news site for me. Personally I don't even like the new layout, I use to use the news.com.au before but that has the annoying layout also.

news.com.au is free and so is mx. i remember them talking about putting a price on journalism last year saying you cant get good journalism if you dont pay. i guarantee the ones doing the typing are not even in australia.

Hopefully this will result in less bogans being told what to think by Bolt and co.

The less people who read Murdoch trash, the better.

If it is like the Australian, just find an article you want to read, then put the title in to Google and follow that link and get full text for free.

    • I'd have a hard job finding an article.

  • I thought it was already free!!

    • ignore
  • I've never been on the herald sun website before but how much does it suck that people that are currently paying to get papers delivered don't get this service for free?

Surely they could have had paid advertisements on the websites anyway to avoid charging people.

    • "Existing 6 and 7-day newspaper subscribers will receive FREE access to the Herald Sun Digital Pass for 12 months."

      • i bet a large chunk of subscribers only get the weekend papers delivered, so they wont have access to this…

  • Seriously guys, what is the difference to owning this app and going to the herald sun website?

    • This is going to be the 'new' herald sun website… you'll have to pay for more 'exclusive' content. So much for free news…

I wonder if this will be front page news tomorrow: "OUR DEAL SUCKS".

    • Its more likely to be "GILLARD SUCKS"

I'll never forget the Daily Telegraph half-page headline: "PROOF" {of Weapons of Mass Destruction] a few days into the invasion of Iraq - and never a correction.

I like Ozbargain more with each neg for Limited News.

  • At least we got the chance to try it. Messy website now. Bigger pictures and fonts does not necessarily mean better content! Lots of typos and just as many ads, so, not something I'll be paying for.
