Jetstar to Japan O/W: SYD to Tokyo $367, Cairns to TYO $275, GC to TYO $302, MEL to TYO $395 [Feb - Apr '22] @ Beat That Flight

1721

Looks like the announcement of international travel starting is already bringing out some deals with many online travel agencies selling cheap Jetstar tickets to Japan.

Note: Jetstar includes carry-on of 7kg luggage.

Buyer beware - while the federal government has indicated travel will be possible, anything could change, or Japan could even close borders, for all we know.

Some examples below.

        • this should be open to the same level of moderating

They are. The flights are in stock, and can be bought right now.

    • +1

how does it affect you how other people spend their money?

    • You + community have revoked the -1 vote from "adam149" on this deal

      Love it when I'm 8th

  • Madness booking these. You have no idea what the quaratnine requirements will be in Japan.

    • +4

Or the conditions / restrictions here on your return…
Hotel quarantine is expensive & not a nice way to spend weeks of your holiday!
As many have found - restrictions can change after boarding the flight!

    • -4

Why is it "Madness"? With most airlines at the moment, if COVID prevents you flying, you just get a travel voucher for the value of the flights. Just rebook at a later stage.

It is not risk free, but it is also not massive money for most Australians either. I think "Madness" is a bit much.

      • +3

What if Aust borders are fully opened, flights are still scheduled but you are required to quarantine in Japan.

Since you are allowed to go there, you may not be able to cancel the tickets.

Aust borders are scheduled to be opened in November but there is no announcement of when Japan will remove quarantine requirements.

The biggest risk is not flight cancellation but forced quarantine on arrival, expensive PCR testing, catching covid and more forced quarantine.

Aust is not the only country in the world with quarantine requirements.

  • -7

OP should state the obvious - that there is a definite risk of flights not going ahead due to government mandates

But hey, they make their $ from affliate links etc so they're putting their own interests ahead of yours ..

    • +2

      I mean….they did state it:

"Buyer beware - while the federal government has indicated travel will be possible, anything could change, or Japan could even close borders, for all we know."

  • +1

this gives such false hopes. Melbournians aren't traveling any time soon, pointless to daydream

  • +3

At the time of writing, conditions of entry into Japan are:

    (1) your passport and visa
    (2) a copy of the Individual Written Pledge
    (3) your negative PCR Test Certificate

After entering Japan you must self-isolate at home or a hotel for a period of 10 days, then test negative for COVID
You must not use any kind of mass or public transport (taxi, domestic flights, ferry, bus, train etc.) during your self-isolation or to get to the place where you will self-isolate.

So if going for anything less than 30 days is not worth it.

Why so many upvotes for this deal?

    • +2

Why so many upvotes for this deal?
Its a sign of hope & return to normality for many.
Of course it could be just a mirage!

    • All these is moot because they won't accept tourists.

      • +2

And you are certain that situation will not change in the six months between then and now? They are over 70% fully vaccinated already.

      • +1

Neither does Australia (now) - but we're opening up soon.
Other countries are preparing to accept the tourist's money to keep businesses & their economy operating.

        • The post said "at the time of writing"….so it's moot?

          • +1

            @raptormesh: That's pretty moot!
All that matters in travel - is at the time of arrival. That's certainly uncertain "at the time of writing".

I've checked conditions before leaving on an overseas flight, but found a "state of emergency" on arrival. Was promptly taken away by military for questioning!
            Conditions can change very quickly!!

        • +3

Our govt have announced that we are opening up, where is the announcement from the japanese govt?

Booking non-refundable jetstar tickets to japan. you may as well go to the casino.

If it was to Canada, USA or UK that will be a different story since they have no quarantine requirements right now.

          • +1

@linkii: Negging a Deal when a warning is given at the top in the Deal Description about risks of booking - makes no sense!
"Buyer beware - while the federal government has indicated travel will be possible, anything could change, or Japan could even close borders, for all we know." - basically what you commented.

            non-refundable jetstar tickets
            *Non-refundable if YOU cancel!

Best to read the Conditions outlined on Jetstar site.

If Jetstar can't fly you, (the flight is cancelled by Jetstar or people are not allowed into Japan as you claim), they offer a choice of refund, rescheduling or credit.
Arranged refund in 7min on Chat last night after Perth Jetstar flight was cancelled

Japanese Govt is a bit busy to answer you… Just got a new PM today.

I've travelled on flights advertised subject to approval by governments. Not that unusual. Got great flights at a discount price.

            • +1

@INFIDEL: I'm negging the product. That is if the flight isn't canceled by the airline, it will not be refundable and highly likely a potential negative experience on arrival.

I'm not claiming that you won't be allowed in.

              • @linkii: That warning is already a part of the Deal. So you're negging the warning!

Seems people are more interested in discussing / criticising the Deal, than actually booking.

Quarantining on arrival & possibly on return has been discussed. People have been warned.

If people want to take the risks which have been outlined in the Deal Description - It's up to them.

They will be extensively tested for COVID. Facilities for tourists may not be operating as normal. And overseas travellers may be shunned (happened to me in S Korea during H1N1 Pandemic & some areas of Japan can be wary in normal times).

Japan is wonderful. But probably worth waiting.

My friends family (in tiny mountain village) had babies late 2019. Was invited over to celebrate, then couldn't go. Would love to see the family before they grow up too much. Tired of waiting, but not booking now!

          • @linkii: Casino's also closed, been gambling on stonks and Amazon pricing errors :D

    • Why so many upvotes for this deal?

  • Qantas seems to think we can go to Japan from December.
A new prime minister is inbound who will make the decision very soon but the state of emergency is already being relaxed. Japan thrives on the tourism dollar so would want to open ASAP.
They can offer a shot to everyone who wants a one by late October to early November and infection rates are alreeady siginifcantly droping. I took a punt and booked for December, worst comes to worse I can rebook later.

    • On the other hand if the new PM opens too early and they get another wave that's it for him. My family there aren't exactly keen on opening up as they are still healing from the Olympics.

      Don't count on it.

    • These are simply the Jetstar discount flights - usually discounted around these travel dates each year (pre-Covid).

    • QANTAS is like the kid who keeps buying the dip, hoping they're right every time only for the stonk to dip lower

  • I just did a search with Jetstar as I have credit - No Flights for April 08/04/22 - 22/04/22
Then I called Jetstar and they stated there are no scheduled Flights for those days.
Anyone able to elaborate as to why these flights are being sold? I'm getting conflicting information.

    • Raised in an earlier comment. Maybe only available to agents etc, not the public at the moment.

Just a point, its better if you check your travel insurance because it is usually not valid when the status of where you are going to "Do not travel". If you think that status will change, the fact that you bought the insurance now (or triggering it now on your credit card) when it is on that status means the insurance company have a good ground to deny a claim on that exclusion.

I would wait until the status goes back to the normal level on DFAT website before making a booking just to be safe.

Any flights from WA in 2050 so there's a chance we might be able to actually go?

    • you voted for MUGowan, deal with it

  • I booked in March for flights this December using qantas points. They were cancelled in May. So disappointing.

Not as disappointing as the fact these flights don't appear using the qantas flight booking form - so I can't pay with points again… yet maybe?

    • I didn't progress far enough into the booking form on the Jetstar page.

75000 points return from Cairns to Narita - no baggage or food.
It was 55000 return with Qantas from Brisbane to Haneda earlier this year inc baggage and food.

Might pay to wait for juicy promotions.

Many upvotes & comments… but has anyone booked yet?

It's not so much for the bookings…
Think its more the longing for & dreaming of overseas travel!

    Please stay at home

    • Reality check… For some, their home is overseas! They would love to be with friends & loved ones, after long lockdowns here. Travel can be going home.

  • My thoughts are you may be booking directly with the airline (like Qantas) with flexible tickets. You may more but you change your flights if circumstances change.
But if you want to roll the dice, go for it.
Believe me, I hate paying full price, but there are risks when going through third parties in the current times

I have to say that anyone attempting to fly to Japan in just four months time is rather brave. Our borders are still closed. Japan is not accepting any tourists. Even after our borders are open, you will have to quarantine for seven days on your return. Consider that even after Japan's borders are open, it's quite likely you'll need to quarantine on your arrival.

I've been to Japan multiple times and really enjoyed my visits, but if I was booking an airfare, accomodation, and time off work, I need far more certainty that it's actually possible. It's not like you're flying to Japan return for peanuts. My last visit there was with Malaysia Airlines (ADL->NRT), $800 all inc return. I doubt we'll see prices like that ever again, but it does put things into perspective that $424 MEL-NRT one way with Jetstar is a 'bargain'.

I am just browsing Japan Airlines website and can easily book for a return trip 18/03-01/04/22 for $833/pp included 2x23kg luggage and meal. So this jetstar deal is definitely not a bargain.

      • You should downvote it

  • Main concern is what if government shut us down ?? Don't think my money will come back in that case so better not buy future tickets

  • I've missed travel deals!

    • But haven't missed realising Im in no financial position to take up any enticing deals

    gambling

  • Heart skipped a beat before seeing they were one way. Call me when the <$500 return flights are back, god I miss that place. (;_; )
