  • I have called flybuys asking when my bonus points would show up and to my surprise they told me that my flybuys account had been closed due to inactivity about 6 months ago (but when I bought these gift cards, Coles said the flybuys gift card still scanned/beeped and had been accepted).

They are asking me to submit my receipt to their member help team to claim the bonus points which I have done. Anyone been in this situation before? Will the bonus points be awarded?

    • +1

That's unacceptable for the trouble to go through because of only 6 months of inactivity.

      • +1

Actually, I think their account has been inactive for around 18 months. It was just that it was closed six months ago due to inactivity, and the period of inactivity is defined in the Flybuys T&Cs as 12 months.

Still, I think it’s stupid that the POS system still accepted the Flybuys card, even though the card was linked to a closed account.

    • +1

This is an example of extremely piss poor user experience.

You should have been informed at the terminal that your flybuys card is no longer active.

      • +1

Yeah, I thought that was the whole point of the POS system saying “your Flybuys card has been accepted, thank you!!”

  • Went to 1st store at 8am this morning and it was already sold out. But 2nd store down the same street has heaps of stocks left.

Will probably wait until the Flybuys bonus points to show up in the account before redeeming these gift cards just in case.

    Relatively easy process. Excellent deal!

  • I am now confused…I went to my local store and they only had $200 cards (and below). I tried to buy 10 x $200 cards and was refused (5 cards max per person). Fair enough, so I bought 5 x $200 cards.

My question: Is it 5 per day purchase limit per person per Flybuys account or 5 per Flybuys account to get the bonus Flybuys 30x points? If its 5 cards per Flybuys account, I am screwed…$1k isn't enough to get what I want…Face palm.

    • Just get the 20-500 varieties card, ask staff to load 500

      • It’s a bit late now considering they already bought 5x $200 Apple gift cards and it seems like they only have access to one Flybuys account.

        • +1

Yeah that’s true, prob need to set up another account and wait for the next drop (don’t think they will restock quite often during promotion)

    • My guess (and it is a guess) is that the inclusion of A limit of 5 Gift Cards per customer applies on Flybuys bonus points promotions means you can only earn bonus Flybuys points on 5 gift cards per Flybuys account during the entire promotional period.

I remember reading a comment for another Coles deal a few months ago where someone bought six gift cards during a bonus Flybuys points promotion and they only got bonus points on five gift cards.

In all fairness, Coles changed the T&Cs of the deal changed after the OP posted it here, so a lot of people will still think this deal has a bonus points limit, not a gift card limit.

The obvious way around this issue for you (if you really want the last 5x $200 gift cards) is to use another Flybuys account.

      • But is that 5 a limitation per gift card denomination? Or all Apple gift cards.

        • My interpretation is that you can only buy a total of 5 Apple gift cards (regardless of denomination) and get bonus points during this promotion.

          • +2

@WookieMonster: Same, and I'm not interested in being a guinea pig. Only bought them because I could stack with the ZIP promotion.

    • How many points did you get? I saw this comment and they got 30x points on more than five gift cards.

  • Do most stores not have the variable load cards? Went to multiple and they only had max $100 :(

    • Coles at my area had a stack of 10-15 variable cards.

      Maybe because I’m in Adelaide.

      • Same. I went to the central market coles this morning and they had about 10 variable cards on the shelf and I bought 4 of them. There was a 30x flybuys promotional sign above them.

      • Ah makes sense, I’m in metro Sydney.

    • My local store has lots. Also, the staff was nice and warned me about scams involving gift cards.

      • Mine did too! Of which I appreciate.

        • +1

They supposedly have to by policy, they used to have these printed GIFT CARD SCAM ALERT handouts that they gave to everyone too. Except the purchases today, neither staff warned me. I suppose they would know given how I specifically requested certain amounts and for flybuys.

  • Do the variable loads qualify? If 4 x $500?

    • +1

      Yes.

They’re pictured in the catalogue and they are not listed as an exclusion in the catalogue.

      • Cheers. South West Rocks 2431 had heaps of all the denominations including variables.

  • +1

    As of 12pm;
Marrickville Metro - only $100 and below denominations
Broadway - only $50 and below denominations

Unfortunately I did not get any this time around

  • The Leichhardt Sydney store didn't have any signs about the offer so I'm hoping we definitely get it.

    • In my experience, if there are no posters in a store advertising a bonus Flybuys points deal on gift card purchases and you have met the deal T&Cs, you’ll still get the points.

Most Coles supermarkets I visit don’t actually bother advertising gift card deals (or they’re still advertising the previous week’s deal).

      • OK thanks. I don't see anywhere on Flybuys advertising the deal either?

        • +2

          its in the catalogue. p40

  • Just got 2x $100 from Caulfield (3145) Coles, there are still heaps of them, $50-$500

And, btw, normally how long before the points show in you Flybuys account? It still shows 0 in my account (yup, it's my first time :P), which really annoys me

    • +3

The bonus (and probably also standard) points should show up around 6:30pm AEDT on the day after the transaction (which in your case is tomorrow).

      • +1

You are legend! Thanks a lot!

  • I was able to buy 5x$500 cards this morning at my local coles but i scanned the flybuys after the lady printed my receipt. She said it was successfully scanned and it showed on screen but when will I know if the bonus points have been successfully applied to my account since I dont have it on my receipt?

    • +2

If the receipt does not show your partially-censored Flybuys barcode number just above the receipt barcode, go back to the store with your Flybuys card and receipt and ask the service desk to add your Flybuys card to the transaction. They can see whether a Flybuys card has already been associated with that transaction. However, you must go back to the original store of purchase. You will get your bonus points if you do this today, and you should get the bonus points if you do it within the next seven days.

I think the checkout assistant was incorrect to say it was added to the transaction, as I don’t think they have a way to add the Flybuys card to a transaction after payment has been finalised. However, the only exception is if you actually went to the service desk in the first place to pay for these gift cards… Either way, it wouldn’t hurt to go to the service desk and get them to check whether the Flybuys card was correctly added.

      • Thanks, I may have to go to the store again today. I called flybuys and they said there is a $2500 on the flybuys account today, but they cant see if its associated with the apple gift cards.

        • 2500 on the account should mean its scanned though right?

          • @ATangk: but whether its successfully linked to apple gift card promo?

            • +1

@frugalfamily: If its linked to your flybuys, theres nothing additional that you need to do to link it to the gift card promo. Unless they messed up big time on the promo, then everyone here will be having to call flybuys/coles.

        • Unless you spent $2500 on something else today, it sounds like the Flybuys card was added to the transaction successfully.

You could wait until tomorrow evening (around 6:30pm AEDT) to see whether the points are posted onto your account or you can head back to the store today and ask the service desk to check whether your Flybuys card has been successfully added to the transaction.

        • On the receipt, it should show this: "flybuys Card No: xxxxxx" and "flybuys points as of yesterday: 999999", if it's done correctly.

          • +1

@jayzee: Thats a lot of flybuys points. Did you buy 36k worth of gift cards?

        • Have you received the points on your Flybuys account? Others have.

  • +1

PSA: I tried to get 5x $300 split across five transactions in one visit (to combine with the Zip Pay offer) and both Coles stores I went to told me one transaction only.

    • I asked nicely and the checkout girl let me. Was very fast too, she did some earlier for someone buying $500 amounts so was already familiar with process.

There’s no reason why you can’t queue 5 times if they’re being stubborn.

  • Just went to World Square Coles 2000. Got 2x$500, 2x$200 and 1x$100.

  • I got $500 from our local coles. Scanned my fly buys card and it shows on my docket but nothing on the docket about the points. Is that normal for Coles?

    • +1

      Yes.

The points for that transaction should be posted on your Flybuys account sometime tomorrow evening (typically around 6:30pm AEDT).

      • Thanks. Will check it out tomorrow night.

  • I missed the 5 card limit per flybuy account in the T&C :(

Does anyone know if I can take the gift cards with the receipt back to coles and get them to change the flybuys account on it?

    • +2

I missed the 5 card limit per flybuy account in the T&C

That’s understandable, the terms and conditions were updated after OP posted the deal here…

Does anyone know if I can take the gift cards with the receipt back to coles and get them to change the flybuys account on it?

They can definitely add a Flybuys card if there was no Flybuys card added at the time of purchase, but I’m not sure whether they can change the Flybuys card on the transaction. I think you may need to be a guinea pig and find out for us! If they cannot change the card, you may still get 1 point per $1 spent (which is the standard everyday rate).

      • +1

I will give it a go today, happy to be the guinea pig.

        • +1

          Good luck!

          • @WookieMonster: No luck :-(

Started with the Coles store, got told they cannot do this. Asked me to call Flybuys support.
Called Flybuys, they said they cannot do this. Asked me to call Coles customer support.
Called Coles, they too said they cannot do this.

            • +1

@rake: How many points have you received on your Flybuys account?

              • @WookieMonster: Hi mate, I wouldn't have checked if it wasn't for you, but it looks like I got credited for all the 13 cards !

                What just happened!? Woohoo

Total of 19,500 points for $650 gift card purchase (13x$50 cards)

                • +1

@rake: I think it is a case of a lot of us (particularly me) misinterpreting what Coles/Flybuys meant by A limit of 5 Gift Cards per customer applies. A lot of us thought that meant you could only buy 5 Apple gift cards across the entire gift card promotion period, but Coles/Flybuys intends that sentence to mean that you can only buy a total of 5 Apple gift cards per transaction.

The deal later on says this:

BONUS POINTS can be awarded more than once for each Gift Card type including different denominations of the same Gift Card but up to a maximum of 75,000 points can be collected per Flybuys account.

For other deals, this sentence would state the maximum number of gift cards that would earn bonus points as part of this deal. However, in this deal, it doesn’t list a maximum number of gift cards in this sentence, only a total points limit.

                  It all makes sense now!

Sorry for making you go through those hoops with Coles and Flybuys and Coles again.

                  • +1

@WookieMonster: No mate, you didn't go through the hoops. And either way, we found out that Flybuys cannot be changed on a receipt.

And - not your fault, their language needs amending. My interpretation of the terms was same as yours.

                    All good in the end.

                    • @rake: No worries.

And either way, we found out that Flybuys cannot be changed on a receipt.

Very true! I’ll add that to the Wiki page I’m currently building for Coles and Woolworths gift card deals, so your efforts will help others in the future!

                      • +1

@WookieMonster: Thank you for your work mate. Your write up is very helpful and quite comprehensive.

Also, we might think that coles meant something else.. for all we know it’s a software glitch !

        • Since Coles has been doing 5 cards limit per flybuys account for a while, I won't have a high hope on getting bonus from more than 5 cards. Usually only the first 5 cards counts towards promotional purchases. Hope your first 5 purchases were for the biggest values.

          Good luck anyway.

  • Unsurprisingly, Cols Chatswood Chase was cleaned out

    • Ask the staff member, sometimes they keep some in the service counter.

      • Just been there this morning. Only few $50 left.

  • I don't have the flybuys card/account yet but can I just get a new card at checkout and scan and register the account later ?
I will be going tomorrow morning

    • +1

You can register now, it will issue a barcode printout temporary card, take it to the shop and scan it.

      • oh thanks. will do it now

  • Coles Vermont South (3133) still has about 10 variable cards.

  • Can someone explain this to me like I'm 5?
Le'ts say I wanted to buy the iPhone 13 Pro 256GB for $1869.00
    I would then need to buy 4 x $500 cards for $2000
Effectively scanning my flybuys to buy the cards gets me 60,000 flybuys
    Which can be redeemed.

How do I purchase a phone from apple with those gift cards?
Sorry very very noob question thanks!

    • Go to the Apple store and use these purchased gift cards, you would have the remaining balance of $131 on the last one. Or you can use it online, Apple Store.

This is Apple Store Gift Card, not the iTune Card!

      • iTunes gift cards can now be redeemed in your App Store account and to buy an iPhone too over the phone that’s what I have heard? The only difference is iTunes gift cards can’t be used in a brick and mortar Apple store.

    • Le'ts say I wanted to buy the iPhone 13 Pro 256GB for $1869.00
      I would then need to buy 4 x $500 cards for $2000

FYI the “$500 gift cards” are actually variable value gift cards where you can load an amount between $20 and $500. If you only want to get the exact amount on the variable value gift cards, you can get 3x $500 gift cards and 1x $369 gift card.

Variable value gift cards are generally hard to come by though, as there is usually only a small number of them per store (if there is any in stock).

  • Coles at Burwood One Burwood East (3151) Has about over 10 variables left around 1pm today

    • No more, I was there at like 4pm.

  • I got 15 x $100 cards. In 5 transactions to avail zip offer. Will I get 45000 flybuys points or not?? I’m freaking out

    • +1

It says maximum 5 gift cards per Flybuys account (not per day, not per transaction) so probably not.

      • Oh no! What to do now!

        • There is a chance that you can change the Flybuys card associated with the transaction after you have finalised payment. Have a look at my comment here.

However, since you bought three gift cards per transaction, that will mean you need four other Flybuys accounts to get the bonus points for all 15 gift cards. Housemates or kids or pets or a partner or friends can probably help you out, but the service desk staff may also become suspicious if you ask them to change the Flybuys card on four separate transactions so you can use four different Flybuys accounts. (And this all assumes that you can change the Flybuys card scanned on a transaction once payment has been finalised.)

I think the easiest thing to do is take this as a lesson to double-check the catalogue (or the OzBargain post) just before you go into a store to see whether the retailer has suddenly moved the goal posts!

          • @WookieMonster: Thanx for the detailed reply. Bummer. I called coles yesterday to ask what was the limit and the guy said 5 transactions per person. I should have checked

            • +1

@Meenas: If it is any consolation, you should get 31x points on five gift cards and 1x points on ten gift cards. I guess you won't know until tomorrow evening though!

            • @Meenas: How many points did you get in the end? This comment states that you can get 30x points on more than five gift cards.

              • +1

@WookieMonster: I called flybuys yesterday and they said I would get the full points as I made seperate transactions. Got the 45000 points. Thank goodness

    • +2

I got more than 5 cards as well…Wait till tomorrow evening and check your Flybuys account. Hopefully we may still get all points. You never know.

  • Doncaster (3108), Victoria got swarmed as soon as Coles opened (7:01AM). Some uncle infront of me took the whole variable value rack (bloody selfish…) and started putting them back when he realised he took too many… I got the last three variable value cards, GL to everyone.

    • lol, i would never try the coles in doncaster or doncaster east when there is a deal like this.

  • Coles give you points for gift cards normally, so does that mean if you get $2500 worth of gift cards in this deal, you’ll get 2500 points and 75000 bonus points for a total of 77500 points? The 75000-point limit is only for bonus points?

    • +1

It says bonus points, so I assume so. I had a 5x your spend in points deal going on too, so I wonder how thats applied.

  • Sydney (2000) Coles - DITTO!
Wynyard Coles Express - Cleaned out
QVB Coles Local - Cleaned out

At express the clerk said apparently it shows differently and the deal might not be applicable but who knows.

Then there is this "Coles Local" brand?

    • +1

There's no Coles Local at QVB … There's one on York St near QVB

      • Yes the York st one, I was just lost for words, thanks for correcting.

  • -1

Hi all, I am bit confused with the Terms and Conditions… So can I buy these gift cards in different transactions (like buy cards in different days from different stores) and still qualified for the bonus point?

I understand the max 5 card per account limit.

    Thanks

    • +1

So can I buy these gift cards in different transactions (like buy cards in different days from different stores) and still qualified for the bonus point?

      Yes

  • +2

Coles Roselands had plenty variable ones left.

    • +2

Went to Coles Chullora this morning heaps of 20,30 but rest all cleaned out. On my way back recalled some ozbargainer mentioned Roselands, drove there and yes, still plenty of variables ones available. Thanks acuren!

  • I assume that you can use Apple GC's to purchase items from the edu store?

    • +1

      Yes

    • +1

Yes you can. That's the best way to shop with Apple.
