      • Thanks, got it.

Another question, these apple gift cards can be used to purchase the new iphone 13, right?

  • Ah shot.. here we go again..

    • +3

There’s a hard limit of $2,500 worth of gift cards per Flybuys account, so I think may be a little easier to find gift cards this time around.

I really doubt you’ll see someone boasting about purchasing $36,000 worth of gift cards in this deal…

      • +1

I really doubt you’ll see someone boasting about purchasing $36,000 worth of gift cards in this deal

I am glad to see Coles are being a bit more sensible.

      • +1

thought I was mad spending a bit over 10K, oh dear lol

  • Flybuys is one of the slowest to update points and you won’t have any confirmation in the receipt if you really got points

And it takes 3 days to show up in history

    • +3

And it takes 3 days to show up in history

No it doesn't. They show up the evening after your qualifying purchase.

      • Not always. I had few where it take more than 2-3 business days from Coles transaction.

        • I find that's a rare occurrence, usually due to incorrect programming where the points aren't awarded. It's always been the following evening for me.

          • @kerfuffle: So just confirm, I bought a $2500 worth of apple gift cards last night. I should see the points in my account by tonight (or at least in 3 days time)? I was somewhat nervous when purchasing!

            • @lealvinav: That’s correct, as long as you remembered to scan a Flybuys card (and the correct Flybuys card) for that transaction(s) last night.

    • +3

And it takes 3 days to show up in history

Not correct. For Coles, the points show up the following day around 6PM.

      • -2

Not correct. It take more than 3 days for gift card transactions. It happened to me.

  • +1

Man bring back the 15% off iTunes Gift Card Deals! That was a much better deal.
Price match it with Officeworks and get a further 5% off.

Gift cards can then be used to redeem for Disney+ Subscription and buying iPhones and iPads via the Apple Store ;)

    • +3

Doubt they'll bring it back. This is as good as it's gonna get.

      • Hopefully with Christmas around the corner, I hope Woolies, Big W or Coles bring back the deal

  • +8

These will be great for paying off all these tax debts i keep getting calls about from the ATO

  • This gift card cannot be used for apple care + 2 years plan after product purchase.if anyone want apple care , you will need to add it to the order.

    • Just pay monthly?

      • Yes you can , but 2 years plan has discount .

        • +3

Can't have everything. Pick one or the other.

    • You can't add AppleCare+ at time of purchase anymore due to a policy change (not limited to Apple) where optional insurances aren’t able to be sold with new items, but you can purchase after the fact.

      Source: From discussion gathered here.

      • That’s even worse. That means only monthly plan can be paid by apple gift cards…..

        • I don't think this is right. I got the Apple care plus with the gift cards last month. Got the 2 years plan.

Edit: I was able to add it with the phone during the order.

          • @ModBot: Did you add apple care when you order new iPhone?
Now things changed, no apple care can be added when ordering new products, have to add after purchase.

            • @Garrettau: I made my purchase on the day of pre-order and was able to add it with the order itself. Less than a month ago! Didn't know Apple changed this.

  • Can someone state the obvious for me.

If I buy $2.5k worth, Can I use this to buy an imac and pocket the 75k FB POINTS?

    • +1

Yes, as long as you are aware of the gift card limits at Apple and know how to get around it.

      • You can only redeem a maximum of eight (8) gift cards in one transaction, in conjunction with your Apple Account Associated Balance and/or a credit/debit card (if required).

      • You can load multiple gift cards onto your Apple Account.

      • You cannot use an Apple Account Associated Balance for in-store purchases at an Apple Store, but you can use it for online or over-the-phone payments.

      • So buy these, load to Apple account, then buy? (I've never bought an apple device before in my life)

        • Yep, that would be the easiest way to do that.

Btw, if you are going to purchase AppleCare+ for the iMac in the same transaction, you may lose the option to pay with your Apple Account Associated Balance (according to the comments above).

        • Correct - very simple

  • Can we purchase these gift cards with credit card?

    • Can we purchase these gift cards with credit card?

Why wouldn't you be able to? :/

      • -1

kind of remember - came across gift cards can't be purchased with credit cards

        • +2

          That's weird.

I've been purchasing third-party gift cards at Coles using my Amex for the last couple of years and had zero issues.

My guess is that if you cannot use a particular credit card at a particular time to purchase a gift card at Coles, it is due to the credit card provider denying the transaction (e.g. insufficient credit available, card provider thinks the transaction is likely to be fraudulent), rather than Coles blocking that particular credit card.

Are you confusing credit cards with prepaid EFTPOS/Mastercard/Visa gift cards?

        • +1

Are you sure? Paying by credit cards is the norm these days. I think you're confusing paying for these with other Gift Cards which is not possible

        • Time to get a new credit card then. :/ Have never had issues buying gift cards with credit cards.

  • +2

    great for iphone 13

  • Can anyone please confirm if splitting the gift card purchase across multiple transactions will avoid affecting the "spend $x to get 3000 points" promo?
Or is that based on a daily spend?

    • +4

In my experience, it does not matter if you buy a large amount of third-party gift cards in one transaction or spread it across multiple transactions over multiple days, it will either way cause the minimum spend of your targeted offers to skyrocket.

I think Coles/Flybuys looks at the cumulative amount you have spent within the previous week or two and your minimum spend on previous targeted offers in order to calculate a new minimum spend. Consider my situation:

      • I only spend about $15-$20 a week at Coles on groceries and other general items (excluding third-party gift cards), so my minimum spend on targeted Flybuys offers were typically around $50-$60.

      • However, I spent about $550 on discounted Coles Gift Mastercards in February, which caused my minimum spend on targeted Flybuys offers to go up to $140 after about a week. It took about two months for the minimum spend to go back down towards $70.

      • I then spent around $1000 on discounted Coles Gift Mastercards in June, which caused my minimum spend on targeted Flybuys offers to go up to $200 after about a week or two.

      • I also bought Coles Gift Mastercards in July ($550) and August ($1600) in multiple transactions over multiple days, as there were bonus Flybuys points offers on those gift cards. However, my minimum spend eventually peaked at $270 at the start of September.

      • The minimum spend for the offer for this weekend was $200, so (for me) it is gradually returning to more normal levels.

You can do what I do and give up on the targeted Flybuys offers (because targeted Flybuys offers require a minimum $50 spend in one transaction, and I don’t remember the last time I spent $50+ in one transaction on items other than gift cards at Coles).

Alternatively, you can do what some other OzBargainers do and have multiple Flybuys accounts.

      • +1

Thanks so much for the comprehensive response!

  • "To qualify for this offer you must present your Flybuys card at the time of purchase"

Does anyone else know if this has to be the physical card or the card on the app would suffice?

    • +4

Either will be fine. You just need to scan the Flybuys card barcode at the checkout before you finalise payment for the Apple gift cards.

      • +1

        Thanks! You’re a legend

  • Do these GCs run out of stock pretty quick or they usually have enough stock? I mean its not a "product" so I would imagine they'd have heaps of them unless they wanted to limit the discounted GCs to a certain max.

    • I guess a lot of OZBers would grab a lot at once (like 10 or more) so they will run out of stock quite quickly.

      • The most you can get points for is $2500 so that’s only 5 x $500 cards

    • +5

Do these GCs run out of stock pretty quick or they usually have enough stock?

The experience at Woolworths with the last two Apple deals was that stock levels varied wildly from store to store. Woolworths had no hard limit on the number of gift cards you could purchase or the amount of bonus points you could earn throughout the promotions period, so it was common for some stores to have no stock for a lot of the promotional period. Personally speaking, I could not find any Apple gift cards (except for the excluded $20 gift cards) during the Woolworths deals, but a lot of others had more success than me!

The experience at BIG W was that it was easy to find stock, mostly because you could only earn bonus points on a maximum of ten gift cards per member, plus BIG W could not sell gift cards in large parts of Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra due to lockdowns.

My guess is that stock will be relatively hard to find in a lot of Coles supermarkets for this deal, because:

      • You can earn bonus points on up to $2,500 of Apple gift cards per Flybuys account.
      • The $20 and $30 Apple gift cards are excluded, and my local Coles has fat stacks of those gift cards in comparison to the higher denominations.
      • Some people have multiple Flybuys accounts.

A mitigating factor would be that this is the fourth bonus points deal on Apple gift cards at a supermarket or department store in the last two months, so there may be less people in the hunt for Apple gift cards this time around.

If you want to increase your chances of getting your hands on some Apple gift cards, visit a Coles supermarket at opening time on Wednesday, and you may even run into a fellow OzBargainer or two!

I mean its not a "product" so I would imagine they'd have heaps of them unless they wanted to limit the discounted GCs to a certain max.

FYI gift cards are not delivered to Coles stores in the supply trucks you may see in a store’s loading dock.

Gift cards are actually delivered by a third-party gift card distributor who visits a Coles store during trading hours, and Coles staff generally leave it up to the gift card distributor to restock the shelves.

Some stores (particularly the smaller ones) do not have storage cabinets for gift cards, so the gift cards you see in the gift card section or the checkouts at those stores are the only gift cards they actually have in stock.

In larger stores, there is a hidden cabinet behind the gift card display where there is extra stock for gift cards. I actually noticed last week the gift card cabinet at my local Coles supermarket was accidentally left unlocked and I saw two large boxes of Apple gift cards, so it always worth (politely) asking staff if there is stock hidden away somewhere.

      • Love how ozbargain knows the ins and outs of coles/woolies supply chains

        • Haha to be fair, I got that information when I went to a Coles supermarket at opening time in search for TCN gift cards when they were 15% off and overheard a Coles staff member trying to explain to a slightly irate customer that gift cards were not actually restocked by Coles staff, and they also had no idea when they would be next restocked.

      • -2

So someone working for the gift card company literally drives around with a a stack of gift cards and walks into stores and fills em up? That kinda makes sense..

Also maybe makes some peoples idea of 'stealing' gift cards from say Aldi and then paying for them at Woolworths during the last deal of this type maybe not as bad as it sounds on the surface.

        • +1

          …stealing is wrong either way

  • Noob query . Can I use the Cols Gift card to purchase the Apple Gift Card and still avail the reward points ??

    • Have a look at this comment.

You will get Flybuys points regardless of the payment method used to pay for Apple gift cards.

      • Thank you

  • Can I use Flybuys Dollars to buy gift cards at Kmart or Target?

    • +1

not anymore, they close the loopholes :)

  • I cannot buy the gift cards online, and have to physically go to the Coles store (probably need to be early Wednesday morning)?

  • I pay for my Netflix through my Apple account. Use to add itunes card once a year.

Can this Apple gift cards be added to my account so that I can continue to pay my Netflix?

    Thanks

    • +2

      Yes, it can.

Apple replaced both the App Store & iTunes gift cards and Apple Store gift cards with the Apple gift cards in Australia in early July, so you will be hard-pressed to find any App Store & iTunes gift cards at retailers selling gift cards any more.

      • Accidentally bought some of the latter at an aus post branch. I was using it for iCloud payments so it doesn’t really matter.

  • Can these gift cards be purchased on Coles Online?

    • No. The picture posted by the OP clearly states excludes Coles Online, plus I don’t think Coles Online sells gift cards.

      • +1

        Thanks

  • +8

Checked the online catalogue (NSW 2000), it has an additional T&C "A limit of 5 Gift Cards per customer applies." as the first sentence.
Not sure if it only applies on certain locations.

    • Well spotted! It looks like the terms and conditions were updated since the OP posted this offer.

I just checked the TAS catalogue and it lists the same restriction.

I guess someone will have to be a guinea pig which one of the following is applicable for this deal:

      • A hard limit of 5 gift cards per Flybuys account, or
      • A hard limit of 75,000 bonus points per Flybuys account, regardless of the number of Apple gift cards you buy.
      • +2

A hard limit of 5 gift cards maxed out at $500 each equates to 75000 points, I guess that's why Coles changed it to avoid the hassle of explaining T&C to someone buying 8 gift cards expecting 120K points

        • The reason I floated the two scenarios is that it looks like Coles (or Flybuys) rushed in changes to the terms and conditions to the copies of the catalogue that were publicly distributed today, and it may be that Coles have not actually updated their systems to only credit Flybuys bonus points for only five Apple gift cards.

Now I think about it, I think the limit is now five gift cards per Flybuys account.

      • My understanding is a hard limit of 75,000 bonus points per Flybuys account

        PLUS
5 gift cards max per customer on a single visit/ per day depends on the staff, as it uses "customer" not "cardholder" (if "customer" ≠ " cardholder")

A single Flybuys account can have multiple cardholders, that's why I think it should not have limit of 5 gift cards per Flybuys account, maybe per card holder if "customer" = " cardholder"

        • -1

Upon reflection, I think Coles changed their minds is now enforcing a five gift card per Flybuys account for this deal (probably after reading this thread lol).

Whenever Coles includes A limit of 5 Gift Cards per customer apples on Flybuys bonus points promotions, it means you cannot earn any more bonus points when you go over the five gift card limit per account.

Whenever Coles writes A limit of 5 Gift Cards per customer apples on percentage discounts, it means that staff can refuse to sell more than five gift cards to customers each visit/day, but there is no way the POS system will stop you from multiple gift card transactions on the same day or different days or different stores, etc.

It also looks like Coles was too lazy to change the terms and conditions to remove references to a maximum of 75,000 bonus points.

  • Anyone know if Apple checks if you're a student/teacher when purchasing through the education store?

  • Can anyone help me here? If my purchase is lets say $257 for instance and I buy a $200 and a $57, will I still get 30x on those $57? Thanks !

    • +1

Yes, as long as you do not buy more than five Apple gift cards per Flybuys account during the promotional period.

      • +1

        Thanks !

  • So if I buy a $500 worth of Gift Card, I'l get 15,000 FB points which is essentially $75 that I could use towards my Groceries, etc.

    In other words it's $75 / $500 = 15% discount

    • Sort of. You’re getting a bonus instead of a discount.

    • So if I buy a $500 worth of Gift Card, I'l get 15,000 FB points which is essentially $75 that I could use towards my Groceries, etc.

Yes. It can be used on groceries, fuel, clothing, homewares, other gift cards…

      In other words it's $75 / $500 = 15% discount

That’s one way of looking at it.

      • Can you use the entire bonus in one order or is there a limit of like $10 per shop?

        • +1

It depends on your redemption preferences:

          • If you are a Coles Financial Services customer and opt to directly redeem Flybuys points at a Coles checkout, you can only redeem 2000 points for a $10 discount per transaction.

          • If you are looking to convert Flybuys points into Flybuys Dollars, you can only redeem Flybuys points in lots of 2000. However, you can convert multiple lots of 2000; for example, if your balance is 6220 points, you can convert 2000, 4000 or 6000 points into $10, $20 or $30 in Flybuys Dollars (respectively) in one go.

You can then redeem Flybuys Dollars like a physical gift card. If we continue the example above, assume you converted 6000 points into $30 and you are spending $35 at Coles1, you can redeem any amount of Flybuys Dollars between $0.01 and $30. To pay using Flybuys Dollars, you need the physical Flybuys card, select/request Card as the payment method at the checkout, swipe your Flybuys card at the EFTPOS terminal and enter your Flybuys Dollars PIN.

Your Flybuys Dollars balance does not have to be zero to convert more Flybuys points into Flybuys Dollars, so you can top up your Flybuys Dollars balance as you see fit.

          • If you are looking to redeem an item off the Flybuys Rewards Store (e.g. a TCN gift card, a Coles gift card, Weber BBQ, Bose NCH-700), the only restrictions on the number of points you can redeem are your total points balance and the minimum number of points required for redemption.

          1. Keep in mind that you cannot use Flybuys Dollars as a payment method for some items at Coles, including gift cards and mobile SIM card packs.

          • +1

            @WookieMonster: You're amazing, thank you!

            • @hoodiejs: I also forgot to mention that you cannot use Flybuys points to pay for any online transactions at Coles Group or Wesfarmers stores accepting Flybuys except for Coles Online, where you can use flypay to redeem up to 10,000 points ($50) per online transaction.

  • Damn! none at Zetland or Waterloo coles

    • I saw a few in Edgecliff Coles :)

  • If I buy $1000 vouchers and the device only costs $900 then can I spend the rest on iTunes? Or Apps?

    • or iCloud subscription.

      • Or AppleCare+ if you pay monthly

  • If you were going to buy an Apple Watch before years end, would you load up on these or do you think you’ll end up getting a better deal elsewhere (overall) before then?

  • +3

Not sure if this has been posted by somebody else, however this is a little trick that I found worked. I figured this out as I have previously worked for one of the supermarkets in designing and setting up their current inventory systems.

Protip - If you want the $20-$500 variable load cards and your local store doesn't have any.
Go to another store (ie Target or Kmart) that has the same type of gift cards.

The store itself does not pay for the physical gift cards. They are stocked by a third party (the store doesn't order them).
Unfortunatley with gift cards the stores inventory system cannot "see" the number of cards in stock (this is unlike normal grocery items, where stock on hand is updated for every item scanned through the checkouts). It is only until the third party merchandiser comes along that they will fill them up. This is why once stock of the gift cards is "sold out" it doesn't get replenished for a while.

Ask the store manager if you can take some of the blank gift cards to load up at another store. The cards aren't programmed to a certain store. They are just "blanks", so will work across all stores, as long as the point of sale system is set up to accept them.

I basically did the exact same thing when Woolies had their promo. Went to BigW, explained to the store manager the Woolies promo and he let me take 4 of the $20-$500 blanks over to Woolies as they didn't have any. Little did I know that BigW would have the same promo about a week or so later.

Probably works best for stores within the same branding. For example, it may be hard to convince a Woolies manager that taking some gift cards over to Coles to load them up is in his best interest. YMMV.

    Hope it helps somebody.

    • Yeah correct I remember there was a time that people would raid the Big W store for giftcards that they used at Woolies and Coles.

  • can I do multiple transaction ?
    for example,store 1 get 500X2 and go to store 2 get 500X3.

    • +2

Yes, multiple transactions are fine, as long as you only buy a total of five gift cards per Flybuys account during the promotional period.

  • Waiting in front of coles now, just saw the news apple will announce m1x next Tuesday. Good timing!

  • +2

hi gang, just remember to scan your fb card. i forgot but the shop added it in later on for me.

  • Got the gift card this morning. It was very painless. The flybuys points have not appeared on my account yet

    • +1

You must be new to flybuys. Unlike Woolies, they don't show up immediately; they show up the evening after your qualifying purchase.

  • +1

Some stores may limit $500 max purchase. Went in Rhodes Coles they told us that we can only purchase $500, but went to Coles Concord bought $2000 without a problem.

  • +3

Just a minor PSA: if you purchase anything from the Apple store and have a remaining balance on a gift card. Don’t go redeeming the gift card balance to your Apple account (App Store) immediately after.

Made that mistake this morning where I made the purchase for an iPad Pro and redeemed the full $500 of the last gift card on my Apple account. Even though there was a 10 minutes gap. And I knew that there would be a bit of a drama. That or a loophole. Unfortunately, my order was placed on hold and I could not pay the outstanding amount against my Apple account.

Had to call Apple Support to resolve the payment issue.

I just hope that cashrewards was tracked.
