@stuarty9: I want to be very clear. One transaction gives you $30 rewards maximum. So don’t spend more than $300 in one transaction to get maximum rewards. Also if you spend a total of thousand, rewards balance will show $100 but you can redeem $90 only. The last $10 will have to be at least $30 before you can redeem

          • +1

@stuarty9: You get 10% back in rewards ans you can redeem it back into zip account when it’s $30. Can’t redeem anything under $30. So $900 spend in three transactions will give you $90 back in three lots of $30 rewards.

        • Very strange that this ZIP promotion is not listed as a deal here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/zip.co

    • Sorry what is this Zip 10% offer everyone is talking about? Is it https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/656183 which is only available between 12pm-1pm? But its targeted how can I see if I'm eligible? Thanks

      • Yep only between 12-1pm. Check your Zip app, it should say in there if you're eligible.

        • Turns out I had a zip money account. Zip Pay requires a credit check which isn't worth it so will pass.

    • How did you get $150 back from zip?

  • St Ives Coles (2075) still has plenty of $100, $200, and variables

  • Does anyone know if you can do more than one transaction with this deal? For example buying X amount one day and Y amount on another day and still get the points?

    • +1

Yes, you can. The max points you can earn is 75,000 so might just need to keep that in mind when shopping for these. 75,000 is effectively 5 * 500.

      • Thanks so much @wordsmith

  • Just curious, what's the best use for Flybuys points? Do most just redeem $10 off for every 2000 FB points? Or convert to Velocity? Genuinely interested as new to the Flybuys game..

    • +3

The “best” use depends on your personal circumstances:

      • Most people (like me) convert Flybuys points into Flybuys Dollars or the gift cards on the Flybuys Rewards Store, because they can be redeemed more quickly than Velocity points. Flybuys is currently running a promotion where you get some Flybuys points returned to you for redeeming your points for TCN gift cards on the Flybuys Rewards Store, so if you are looking for TCN gift cards, that may be of interest to you.

      • I don’t think many people order other items off the Flybuys Rewards Store (e.g. Weber BBQs, gardening accessories, Royal Doulton crockery and glassware). I suspect that part of Flybuys is a hangover from the pre-2012 revamp.

      • If you have firm plans on travelling with Virgin Australia in the future and you are happy to accept the risk of Virgin Australia or Velocity Frequent Flyer going belly-up in the future (or if you just want to transfer 1000 Flybuys points to Velocity to keep your Velocity points balance alive), Velocity points may make sense.

I don’t have firm plans to travel interstate anytime soon, due to quarantine uncertainties, so I would much rather redeem my Flybuys points for discounts at Coles and feel like I am being rewarded now.

    • +2

You can now also get a range of gift cards for the same amount e.g. $50 card for 10000 points. Teen, him, her, baby cards etc redeemable at a bunch of places. Or buy redeem points into flybuys dollars and use at coles target or Kmart.

  • do they require ID for the higher amounts?

  • Any way to check stock online?

    • No.

You could try calling stores, but there’s a good chance that Apple gift cards are restocked or are purchased in-between any phone calls you make and when you actually get to the store.

I don’t think stores generally “reserve” any gift cards if you politely ask them over the phone, so it may be first-come, first served. No harm in trying, though.

  • Will you get points if you buy more than 5 cards?

    • +2

      Yes, but keep in mind:

      • You can only purchase a maximum of 5 Apple gift cards in a single transaction, but multiple transactions are fine.
      • $20 and $30 Apple gift cards are excluded from this deal.
      • You will only get a maximum of 75,000 points during this promotion (which is the number of points you will earn from purchasing $2,500 of Apple gift cards in this deal).
      • +1

        Thanks!

  • Top Ryde 2112 got restocked today after out of stock for 2 days, plenty left on the shelf.

    Hi guys
I have confirmed that i bought $1850 apple gift card on 8:00am Thursday. My FB is just come today at 55,500 points at 6:00pm.
    I am from Melbourne Victoria

    Thank OzBargainers.

  • Plenty of stocks in Ashfield as of 6 pm today.

  • Just received my 75,000 points from yesterdays purchase.
This is the first time I have used one of these flybuys promos, so I have just looked into how to actually redeem these points.
I normally shop via Coles online and was hoping I could use my points to pay for my weekly shop however it looks like you can only use up to $50 each transaction, is this correct?
What is the best way in which to use these points at Coles?

    • +1

I normally shop via Coles online and was hoping I could use my points to pay for my weekly shop however it looks like you can only use up to $50 each transaction, is this correct?

Correct. I believe Coles Online is the only store participating in flypay that allows you to redeem Flybuys points on online purchases.

What is the best way in which to use these points at Coles?

The best way to use these points at Coles is for in-store transactions (which unfortunately is not something you normally do). 2,000 Flybuys points converts into $10 in Flybuys Dollars, and you can convert as many multiples of 2,000 Flybuys points as you want.

You can redeem as many Flybuys Dollars as you want for each in-store transaction1; for example, if your next spend on groceries at Coles is $92.26, you can redeem $92.26 from your Flybuys Dollars balance.

You cannot redeem Flybuys Dollars on Coles Online, so you will need to carefully think about how many Flybuys points you want to hold on to and how many Flybuys Dollars you want (if you decide to go down that path).

      1. The only exceptions are gift cards, mobile SIM cards and smoking/tobacco products. I think mobile phone prepaid recharges are also excluded, but I have never tried that myself.

      • Target used to let you use Flybuy dollars for online purchases as well. Not sure if they still do or not.

        • That's interesting, because I never thought you could use Flybuys Dollars for any online purchases!

I double-checked the Target website, and you can use Target digital and physical gift cards and Coles Group & Myer gift cards on the Target website as payment methods, but there's no mention of Flybuys Dollars or Flybuys points anywhere…

          • +1

@WookieMonster: It’s still there. Add to cart and checkout, there you can redeem flybuy points either $10 or $20 worth.

            • @Applause: That's handy to know!

              • @WookieMonster: Was just looking to it as well, looks like they have a new thing called FlyPay so not sure if you need to sign up to that as well to convert the Flybuy points so you can use them to pay for things, or if that's just another way to generate Flybuy points? They seem to be changing it all the time, hard to keep up.

                • @pixxelpusher: To me, flypay seems to be a payment wallet where you add your Flybuys details and debit/credit card details to it once, and then when you go to the checkout of participating businesses, you just click on flypay (instead of manually adding Flybuys numbers and debit/credit card details).

However, the only thing I think is special about it is that you can redeem Flybuys points at Coles Online through flypay. I don’t think you can pay using Flybuys points if you use flypay at Target (yet).

                  • @WookieMonster: Ah I see, I'll have to read more into it. Was easier when they just let you use your flybuy dollars directly, I remember you could even use them on eBay to buy stuff, wish they brought that back!

  • I just got apple gift card at birkenhend point today
Anyone still want this can go to buy still have $500 alot

  • Just wonder whether you guys load the gift card to apple account balance?
what's the concern apart from cannot use in-store? I bought the gift card for purchasing iphone and macbook, just thinking whether i should load all rather than keeping the paper gift card.

    • +2

I think it is safer and more convenient to redeem all gift cards to your Apple ID if you are going to order online.

  • Heaps of GC's at my local. Got 2k worth and paid with Zip.

  • Is it confirmed that we can buy more than 5 gift cards (over different transactions each less than 5 GCs each) and still get the 30x points on all of them as long as we don’t go over the 75k point limit?

  • Tq OP. I managed to get it

  • At least 15+ $20-500 available in Broadway store around 15mins ago

  • Me again…so just to confirm…5 cards per transaction, buy as many you want, but total Flybuys points is capped at 75,000 points?

I might have to go to Coles again!

  • Coles Warringal Mall Heidelberg has plenty of 20-500 ones.

  • Confirm Broadway Coles still had over 20 variable ones 45 mins ago (after I took 8 of them).

  • Oh no! I just found out you can only add 8 cards to apple account but I bought 15 of the $100 cards. What to do now??? I planned on using them online at edu store.

    • +2

Redeem them onto your Apple Account first.

If you do that, you won’t be able to use your Apple Account Associated Balance for pay for purchases or repairs in-store at an Apple Store, but that won’t be an issue in this case.

      • Thanx but can be used on education store right?

  • managed to buy 1900 divided in 4 gift cards and paid with coles gift cards, no problem.

  • When they say on sale until Tuesday the 19th, does that mean you can or cannot take advantage of this deal on Tuesday the 19th itself?

    Thank you!

    • Yes you can.

Catalogue sales usually go from Wed to Tue the following week.

      • Great. Thanks for the info mate.

  • Thanks op. Got the points!

Sorry to go a bit off topic

I'm about to buy an iPhone 13 as a gift for an elderly very soon.
Can anyone recommend a screen protector and a good quality black folio type of leather case?
Compatible for wireless/MagSafe charging is preferred. He would prob still use wired charging now but he is going to keep the phone for long term so might be on wireless some time in the future.

Done some research, looks like my choices are from JB hi-fi:
    - EFM Monaco Wallet Case for iPhone 13 (Black)
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/efm-monaco-wallet-case-fo…

    TIA

    • Yea thats what I was thinking -> Use the flybuys points to buy a FOR HIM (or whichever it was, double check) gift card which can be used at JB HI FI.

    • If you are putting a screen protector on, then why does it have to be a folio?? I think the Apple genuine leather case is the best choice. It is a bloody rip at $95, but with the bonus flybuys and 10% off not too bad

      • I am buying the phone as a gift and the person likes a folio case.

Have you used the the one you mentioned?
Maybe just leave the protector off then. It's been a while since my last use of an iPhone which was a 6s..
So just need a quality folio case.

  • Late to the party, tried few Coles in Sydney but all OOS, anyone know any Coles around top Ryde.

    • Have you tried Lane Cove?

    • Earlier tonight Gladesville had quite a few of the variable $30-500 and $200 cards.

      • Thanks got 2 which were left.

    • Coles Lindfield had a couple of variable gift cards, around mid-day today.

    • Five dock had a few

  • @WookieMonster: If you have family members who have their own Flybuys cards but they are linked together under a family (but as separate card holders), will each cardholder be considered to be a separate account for the purposes of this promotion?

That is, can they each separately earn a max of 75K points from the purchase of Apple Gift Cards during the promotion period?

Please note in the activity stream, the Flybuys app shows the combined purchases of all account holders. So, it kind of looks like this might be a single account with multiple card holders. Obviously, Everyday Rewards doesn't allow you to have this kind of setup.

    • +1

If those family members are separate cardholders that are all linked back to the same account, that account can only earn a maximum of 75k points in total during the promotional period. It is not 75k points per cardholder.

  • can these be hacked like the mastercard Gift cards?

    • +1

If you are so worried about it, then as soon as you purchased it, redeem it to your Apple account right away.

    • +5

      Doubt it.

An Apple Gift Card code consists of 16 characters, each of which is either a letter or number. That means there are 36 potential characters for each of the 16 characters in the code. The total number of combinations is 36^16, which is approximately equal to 7.96e+24 (or in layperson’s terms, 7,960,000,000,000,000,000,000,000).

I suspect that number is for all Apple gift cards across the world, not just in Australia, so a person looking for Australian Apple gift card codes would have to brute their way through a lot of combinations to find an activated Australian Apple gift card code with funds. I would like to think that Apple has designed their systems so that it would temporarily block any account that was randomly guessing and checking potential codes, so I doubt the juice would be worth the squeeze.

Let’s compare all of that with the Coles Gift Mastercard.

The Coles Gift Mastercard is a prepaid Mastercard gift card, so the card can be redeemed at a lot more online merchants. Some unscrupulous merchants do not require a CVV to complete a purchase, so for some purchases, all you need is the 16-digit card number and the expiry date.

The 16-digit card number consists of:

      • The Bank Identification Number (BIN): a string of numbers to identify the financial institution that issued the card.
      • Unique numbers: a string of numbers unique to that card.
      • Check digit: a single digit at the end of the card number calculated based on the Luhn algorithm.

The Coles Gift Mastercard card number structure is so limited that there is a known theoretical total of 3,000,000 card number combinations.

The Coles Gift Mastercard is also created in batches, so it comes with a limited number of expiry dates. The expiry dates are printed on the front of the gift card (because customers would want to know when the gift card they’re about to buy will expire), so anyone who walks into a Coles or Coles Express store can see the expiry dates for some of the cards.

If you combine the fact that most online merchants will accept prepaid Mastercards, there are a small number of card number combinations, there are a small number of expiry dates, some merchants don’t ask for a CVV, and some merchants do not take the proper steps to protect themselves against BIN attacks, the Coles Gift Mastercards are far more vulnerable and far more desirable for fraudsters.

  • When they say until Tuesday 19th. Does that mean it ends midnight tonight or tomorrow midnight. Hoping tomorrow as then I can see from the event tonight if I need them or not.

    • Tomorrow. Coles specials always end on Tuesday and commence on Wednesday.

      • sweet thanks, hate the thought of dropping $2k+ on gift cards without certainty I will use them.

        • Good luck finding them on the last day of the promotion (unless they get restocked at your local stores).

  • If I sign up to flybuys today can I still get this deal (if I do find stock)

    • +1

      Yes

      • Can i use flybuy points to redeem anything in coles, eg more iTunes gift cards or any gift card?

        • +1

If you are a Coles Financial Services customer, yes.

Otherwise, you can redeem Flybuys Dollars at Coles on all items except gift cards (including Apple), mobile phone SIM packs and smoking/tobacco products.

You can redeem Flybuys Dollars at other participating retailers (e.g. Kmart, Target, Liquorland), but I’m not sure if they have the same restrictions as Coles.

Alternatively, you can redeem Flybuys points for a range of physical gift cards on the Flybuys Rewards Store.

  • Burwood One Coles (VIC) has Variables Gift Cards available QTY:10+

  • Five dock Coles still had 10+ on the shelf

  • spend 400 on giftcards but only received 11600 points not 12000

    • It lists separately, 11600 are the bonus points, 400 should be the normal points if you did not pay this using flybuys points.

      • How long until the flybuys appeared from purchase to in account?

        • usually after 7pm on the 2nd day of the purchase.

  • Ingleburn NSW has quite alot of the variable giftcards (looked like 30+ or so) as of 5:30pm today monday 18th

  • So is this still going tomorrow (Tues)? or does it finish today?

  • -1

Can you buy the gift cards using a credit card?

  • Hi does anyone know the answer to this question, if I've got say $1k on my Apple account, place an order with Apple for an item thats say $6k, it asks for balance + credit card obviously on checkout. Funds don't get deducted until they actually process the order (December by the looks of it). If between now and then I increase my Apple account balance from $1k to $5k, does the Apple system dynamically adjust to take the $5k out from the Apple balance first? Or will it take $1k and the remainder on credit card, because thats what was selected at checkout? Thanks!

    • +2

they wouldn't adjust the balance as the payment of that order is based on the time of you made the payment. The best way to do is to cancel your current order and re-order again with the new Apple balance.

  • Thanks OP. Bought a couple today

  • Is a physical flybuys card needed to buy those gift cards?

    • No.

You just need the barcode on the back of the physical Flybuys card. It doesn’t matter whether that barcode is on the back of your Flybuys card, printed on a piece of paper, stored on your phone…

      • +1

        Cheers! 👍

  • Just signed up to flybuys. Walked up to Coles and bought 5x$500 Apple gift cards. There were plenty available.

  • +1

Five dock Coles has lots of variable apple gift cards left

    • I was just there and didn't see them - are they behind the service counter?

      • They were on the top row of the gift card carousel. I didn't think they'd sell out that quickly lol
