      I went on a trip a few years ago to Kenya. A lot of the other people in the group had small travel binoculars, but I couldn't afford the expense and brought along an older, much larger set.

      Was really self conscious about pulling them out the first time, but by the end of the week my larger pair turned out to be far superior to anything anyone else had and they were getting handed around so everyone could get a better look at things.

      Point being, unless you really need that compact feature, think twice about going smaller. You give up a lot to get the smaller size.

      I bought them for this reason and it really depends on what you want to achieve.

      You'll get a great view of the moon and they reveal a bunch more stars than the naked eye.

      The primary issue is stability, as they aren't particularly light and are hard to hold still. They work best when you have somewhere to perch your elbows.

      They are a good investment, especially for this price. They aren't a hassle to stow in your backpack for hikes and give you a great view at some of the lookouts.

      I might just be getting old but these are one of my favourite recent purchases.

      The more light allowed the better. In my case have a pair of below which are 15 x 63 i.e. the 63 being the diameter of lens thus allow more light and a wide field of view . All of above are X50

      I am only nothing this as a general FYI for Astronomy and am not saying X50 is bad or anything. Having said that, one does need a Tripod or the likes with x15 binoculars otherwise a tad shaky.

    Seems like a reasonable deal but "Half price drop" seems like a stretch when they generally sell for $150. Even Nikon's website has them listed for less than the supposed RRP ($189). Maybe better described as 30% off.
