It looks like JB have a discount on the majority of their gaming laptops.

I am interested to see what you think the best value for money out of this bunch is.

This Dell G15 is the cheapest out of the list.

The model with the Ryzen 5600H and RTX 3050 was at $899 multiple times. Looking in that way this is not that cheap after all. Correct me if I am missing something.

You're missing the chip shortage, COVID and mining.

      • +1

        Mining with a laptop?

        • +1

Mining with a GPU - when all the GPUs are used for mining, there's no sick, and prices go up, even for laptop manufacturers.

    • Wow, when/where was this? Any links please? That's a fabulous price.

This was the original link: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/324700516701

There was a coupon on it which would bring it down to $899 at that time.

        • I mean even at $1148 I'd rather have the one you linked than the 1650 version

        • Wow that's a surprisingly good price. I wonder what they are compromising here to get a laptop that cheap.

@Detonator58: Primarily the screen. Super low colour accuracy and brightness

            • +2

@chartparker: 250 nits, 56% sRGB, and 22ms response time for 120Hz? Wow that's garbage. But still good for $899 I guess.
Apparently the 165Hz screen is much better.

It also looks like it has a smaller battery, 56 vs 86 Wh on the higher specced models.

              • @Detonator58: Yeah the 165hz screen is much better but not available with Ryzen in Australia for whatever reason

          'there was' famous last words

You mean this G15 Ryzen goes for $899
      That's fantastic price.

Even at this price, it seems a much better deal than what OP posted

  • I guess it's okay for $1039 but the 8GB of RAM is a bit low especially with recent deals under $1000 offering 16GB (can't remember if they were integrated graphics or not).

    • Which of these laptops would you recommend? My budget is $1500 max

      • Look at Dell deals yesterday. I saw a few good spec around $1400 mark.

      • [edit] the link from OzBestDeal above for $1439 is a way better deal.

For $1500 you’re wanting one with RTX 3060 graphics minimum. For $1300 you’re wanting the GTX 1660Ti

I bought a Dell G15 with 5800H and 3060 (115W) for under $1800 a few weeks ago. I have not found anything else with these specs under $2000.

    • How are you finding it? I was severely tempted but it looks a bit chunky for my preference. How big is the power brick?

      • I'll let you know when it arrives…

  • +1

I feel as though the GTX 1650 is getting a bit old, and laptops with RTX 3060 can be found for similar price when on special.

  • +1

3050 money. Wait for the next Dell eBay sale.

    • Sounds good mate, hopefully Black Friday sales brings plenty of better options/specials
