More details on the product:

  • Whole-home Wi-Fi 6 coverage - an eero 6 system covers up to 460 sq. m. with wifi speeds up to 500 Mbps.
eero 6 systems use Wi-Fi 6 to increase the capacity—and efficiency—of your network. It’s next-generation connectivity, delivering faster speeds to every corner of your space.
  • Say goodbye to dead spots and buffering - Our TrueMesh technology intelligently routes traffic to reduce drop-offs so you can confidently stream 4K video, game, and video conference.
  • More wifi for more devices - Wi-Fi 6 delivers faster wifi with support for 75+ devices simultaneously.
Set up in minutes - The eero app walks you through setup and allows you to manage your network from anywhere. Plus, free customer support is available 7 days a week.
  • Built-in Zigbee smart home hub - eero 6 makes it easy to connect compatible devices on your network with Alexa — so there’s no need to buy separate smart home hubs for each device. You will need to link your eero and Amazon accounts to use this feature.
  • Gets better over time - Automatic updates bring the latest and greatest in wifi while also keeping your network safe and secure.
  • Easily expand your system - With cross-compatible hardware, you can easily add eero products as your needs change.

eero only supports ISPs that use IPoE. There is no option to use PPPoE or PPPoE with a VLAN ID tag.

2 ethernet ports on the eero 6 router only, none on the extenders. Purchase multiple eero 6 routers for wired ethernet backhaul.

2 ethernet ports on each eero (older model) device

  • I'm looking into getting something like this but I need 2 devices for the forseeable future, but both require ethernet ports, meaning for eero i need the Eero Router x2, but Decox20 x2 is same price (ie $300 as well). Based on reviews they are much the same so guess i'm asking on others recommendations/experience ? :)

Deco X20 has PPPoE, PPPoE with VLAN IDs and IPoE protocols to be compatible for all ISPs.

eero is IPoE only. If you don't use iinet, TPG, Internode or Dodo the eero will be suitable. eero has Apple HomeKit if you use it.

thanks for that, with Telstra currently but looking in the future to change to Aussie or TPG (due to Telstra keep putting prices up!) so this is a good call out.

I have apple homekit setup for some lights but also have Alexa so not fussed about that.

A bit more research is looks like Deco x68 is better(triband) if the 2 devices connect via wireless backhaul instead of wired. Only $50 more so maybe that is the safe bet for long term.

Wait and check for Aussie BB Black Friday and Cyber Monday discounts late November. Aussie BB have 100/40 and TPG is 100/20 if you care about uploads.

Tri-band is great but nothing beats wired backhaul if you can get ethernet cables installed.

  • On a 50/20 fttc service with superloop, only a 2 bed apartment, but speeds over wifi seem to significantly drop off in bedrooms, would the Amazon eero mesh wifi router/extender help improve speeds? would the router on its own be enough?

    • It should - but make sure you worked out where you would be placing the mesh points since for it to work, you essentially need to have one where your current router is (to replace it) and the other would need to be somewhere between that and where you are having a drop off in the bedroom.

  • My eero 6 arrived yesterday and I'm very pleased. I get ~650Mbps to the wired nodes and ~300Mbps to the meshed nodes.
The app works well. The best part is that you can turn off the LED so it doesn't disturb bedrooms at night. The bluetooth pairing and setup app is fast.

The main limitation is the single band 5GHz radio, but that is about par for the course in this price range. I considered the eero 6 pro but it's literally three times the price. No thanks. And I have some wired backhaul which negates the benefit.

The other issue is the limited ISP support. You can get around this with a router but then you end up with another layer of NAT.

Be aware there's no webui to configure these things.
