Somebody posted the 24 inch earlier but I think the
Highlight of the sale is the Dell UltraSharp U3011.

BTW these are 2560x1600 resolution and 16:10 aspect ratio, not "JUST" Full HD!

WQXGA is the term here (or Extreme HD/XHD if you believe nVidia/Dell marketing).

its crazy to think that the new ipad is very close to this resolution (2048-by-1536)

ok, almost a megapixel less, but still quite high.

i should stop hesitating and just buy an ipad already :(

      • +4

No, you will get bored after a week and regret it, buy the monitor instead, at least you will be able to make use of all those pixels!

      • Just buy an iPad already! And while you're at it buy a 30 inch monitor as well. Your eyes will never leave a greater than hd a screen again.

      • Save some dosh and get the iPad 2.

Wait for Samsung's 10.1" WQXGA tab, it's been rumoured to be in the works.

      • -1

Dude a megapixel less is like 25% less. I don't really count this as 'very close'.

This is pedantry more than anything and not hating on the ipad - it is a pretty impressive resolution considering the form.

  • This is back on :) nice

    Dammit… must not buy!

Been umming and ahhing about getting one of these bad boys for the last year.

    • +8

You must get one, plus a random on the internet just granted you permission to buy one.

This is the only justification you need, buy away.

    • +3

I umm and ahhed for ages, ended up getting one ~4 months ago.

You won't regret it - justify it by thinking how long it will last (at least 5 years) and how much time you spend in front of it ;)

    • +2

      You aren't helping haha!

Only problem is that for ever $ I spend the wife takes that as permission for her to spend an equal amount.

Keep in mind, this squares to $40/inch in contrast to U2412M $12/inch.

Diminishing return on investment past the $360 mark.

    • +4

Not about the inches, its about the resolution.

      • +2

Well, then you get ~3,444.91 pixels per dollar with the U3011, while you get ~8,258.06 pixels per dollar on the U2412M, when it's on special at $279, which now seems semi-regular.

        • +1

Of course, that doesn't account for the fact that U2412M is e-IPS, as opposed to H-IPS of the U3011.

        That's what the geek said.

Had it for more than a year and it still amazes me. Anyone umming about it should simply buy, or wait for the next version which is probably out in 2013.

    • 2013 could be AMOLED's by then. (Similar with comparing today's tech to LCDs I guess).

? I talked them down to $1150 a few months ago just on Dell chat. This price isn't hard to get at all.

    • Hey, I talked to the chat guys, was wondering how you got that since they say that the current price is the best that's been offered for a few months…. Any advice?

  • This is tempting…. problem is that I already have a dell 24", 27" and 30" hooked up and while the ATI card will take another monitor, i'm not sure my desk will :P

    • hahaha

    • Masuta - I can relate to the desk space is a premium argument. I guess you are not running eyefinity with the three different sizes and resolutions(?).

I am curious as to whether Windows 7 will allow me to run a 24" in portrait, along with 2x 23.5" in landscape through an ATI card.

Any ideas? It is the only thing stopping me from jumping on this deal.

      • That's a beautiful idea. But why would you run a monitor in portrait? just for web browsing? Alot of web pages aren't really designed for that.

  • +4

This screen is the king of all screens.

A few things to bear in mind though:

    1. The high res will mean you need a pretty decent video card to run anything
    2. 30 is BIG. Even though I've had mine for nearly a year, I sometimes feel as though it is too big and my previous 27 was the sweet spot.
    3. The monitor is awesome and has nice extras like plugging in your wii etc.
    • Sorry, just browsing on my phone and accidentally negged you… Great if someone could counter this with a positive :)

  • have two of these babies. absolutely love them!

  • +1

Damn a 30 inch screen!! For those of you guys that have one, how far do you have to sit away from it??? Obviously it can't be 30cm away lol

    • I sit about an arms length away. We use these at work and they are awesome.

  • What are these like to play games on at a lower res like 1900x1200 ?

  • Is it possible to remove the 'glare foil' film that Dell puts over these Ultra Sharp screens?
Has anyone done it, does it make the viewing better or worse?

  • Can you stack nrma/rac discount with this price?
