Bought this morning but I'm on the fence about how I feel about it - I set it up and have at least 30 of the PVC needles all over my floor. This aside, it does look good and the lights are really nice. Only 4 or 5 at my local store and it sold out when the first lot of people went in so hopefully people can find it.

    • Nice, what do you think of the overall bushyness of it? Is it like those skinny Kmart ones or it has some substance to it? And what about lighting do you fell like you need to add additional lights? Thanks for your help.

      • +2

It looks decently bushy - 1160 tips which is pretty good. I also got the 6ft version with no lights for $39.99 as I wasn't sure which size - that one doesn't fill out at all and made an even bigger mess of needles on the floor.

The 7ft one has 300 lights - comparable pre-lit ones from Target have 400 warm white lights but are more pricy, this one has both the ability to do multi-coloured and warm white. The comparable Target ones also have less tips (882) but I think they might be all needle vs this one which is a mix of needle and 'durable' plastic

        • Just adding that I saw the Target ones today and I was wrong - they're also the same mix of needle. But the Target Pre-lit 7ft is more expensive ($179), less needles but more lights.

Nice, you got one of those super-realistic ones that simulates a real tree dropping needles on the floor…

    • +6

Is this not normal? We put up a 10+ year old cheap plastic Kmart tree every year, and the floor is covered with the plastic 'needles' after each assembly/disassembly. Honestly surprised it even resembles a tree anymore.

      • Scratch what I said, this is normal - I'm not used to having the two different types of needles. My old tree was all hard plastic so I wasn't used to the shedding. The 7ft pre-lit one isn't too bad, the 6ft $39.99 however shed a lot in my experience and didn't look very full at all.

How do you guys like a deal from Aldi? Honestly, I feel frustrated with the way Aldi operates. No online, and the moment I go to a nearby store, it's already oos. Do you guys have any alternate approach, or am I doing something wrong here?

    • +7

You gotta go first thing in the morning for special buys…. I went this morning and there was already a line.

      • +5

Then when the doors open, you need to sprint to the exact section. Load up your trolley, give others a greasy then cut people off the Aldi queue. If you do this, you’re doing it right it seems. (Sarcasm)

"How do you guys like a deal from Aldi?"

They lost me as a loyal customer when I purchased some knick-knacks and some Alchohol. They refused to sell me the Alchohol because my 12-year-old daughter walked into the Alchohol section with me so apparently they had to assume I was purchasing the Alchohol for her…the most insane thing I've ever heard. I walk into liquor stores all the time with my children, I'm not leaving them in the car. I googled it when I got home and saw heaps of posts complaining about the same thing at Aldi. Never again Aldi Green Point NSW, never again.

*edit I forgot the worst part, the power tripping checkout dude who was 50+ asked to see her ID

      • +1

Thank God many people feel somewhat what I think. Maybe I am not insane after all. The way they throw things during the checkout, urgh. It is simply unpleasant, to shop at aldi.

    • Not sure if this nationwide but they have actually started moving some of their special buys online in the ACT. Though postage often isn't included in the cost, so probably removes a good chunk of the 'bargain' (if there was one to begin with).

Personally I've started ignoring the special buys. I might have a quick look while I'm in store to see what they have, but very rarely anticipate anything coming out.

I just use the stock check on their website, which updates one day after they go on sale in stores.

I have missed out on some things which are really popular on the first day (bike stand, maybe some others), but I also miss out on the boxing day rush twice a week.

  • Do you need to attach and detach the branch's individually, or are they permanently fixed via hinges and just fold out?

    • Permanently fixed and fold out

      • Thanks

  • I got one last year - it is decent for $99. I hate stringing (and unstringing lights) so this is good for me.

got one this morning with the bottom basket cover thing. Still need to add more baubles and stuff. Here is a pic

    Pros
    * Easy to assemble together. Slotted in 3 parts.
    * love that it has permanently attached branches that hinge out.
    * Looks nice when properly fluffed (is that the right word?) out. This took ages though.
    * lights look great and love that you don't need to add any. They come in different modes plus different colours.

    Cons
    * a bit heavy for me but you don't tend to move it around.
    * lots of the needles fell out and had to vacuum a few times.
    * Slightly more expensive than others you can get from kmart or big W, but it seems to be sturdy and looks great.
    * The cable for the plug is not very long.

    • +1

That actually looks real nice, glad I bought one.

If you want a great thick and tall tree highly recommend https://m.catch.com.au/product/jingle-jollys-christmas-tree-…

Have you got any real life pics of this one? Looks really good on the website but I always find the trees are scrawnier in person.

    • Yeah, I bought the same this morning after contemplating between Aldi and this. Reviews were good enough for me. Glad I bought this one….already received an email fee llw hours back that it's dispatched. Now all dependant on Auspost whether we get to put it up for this year's Christmas or in 2022

How are there multiple people who already have their Christmas trees up at the start of November???

    • +2

They are the ones buying the hot cross buns during the Christmas sales.

    • This is late for us

    • The timing is the Christmas Pageant for SA. So next week. Then down on the Epiphany.

Enjoy more time with all the christmas crap that i have purchased and stored for most of the year :D

        Happy wife happy life

        • +1

exactly. She cleaned up the spot where the tree went, and set it all up without me needing to do anything.
All I did was plug the lights into a smart socket and name it "christmas tree" :P

anybody have any recommendations for the best led or pre-lit or fibre optic trees? I got mine from BigW years ago, and it hardly sheds any needles, but their new ones look a bit crappy now. (going by the pics online) My daughter and her boyfriend need something…prob up to 6' max (ours in 4' and we are happy with that size and so easy to put up and take down each year, I just put it on a table and that makes it seem bigger) and something not too pricey. I'll tell them about the Aldi one but not sure if any will be left anyway.

  • What's the width of the tree at the widest point, for those who have put it up? The specs don't mention…

  • Got one this morning. Lined up and pushed my way through when doors opened to get one of five on display.

  • How heavy are the 7ft trees?

    • Not heavy maybe 15-20kg, carried it to the car no problems.

60 day Aldi return policy …. 52 days to Christmas Day. Mmmm. 🤔😏

    • Nasty lol

      • staff will be like "yes, xmas tree for 2022 sorted!"

    • Every year…

  • We'll be setting this tree up now for its 3rd Christmas, highly recommend it. Looks great, you can even set it up without any decorations and simply switch the built in lights.

  • Cheap

  • If you want to go all out! This is the one to get: https://www.costco.com.au/Flowers-Gifts-Books/Christmas/Pre-…
Wife wants it, but geez, $700~ for a tree is exy.
Heck they have one that's 4.5m tall for nearly $2k!

Updated images after I added the decorations. Shows the two colours that it can do.

Aldi paying news sites to push the whole ‘we sell out instantly, better rush in at 8am to get this otherwise you’ll miss out’. I just casually rocked up to my local at 10:30am and there are heaps available.

  • +1

I use a natural one which is in a pot outside. 2 weeks before Christmas, bring it in and enjoy the nice pine smell indoor. After Christmas back outside in the shade until it gets used to the outdoor temp again. Best Christmas tree ever.

  • Still stock of these at my local. Grabbed one to make the wife happy (hopefully)

returned the following day. no idea why these get much mummy hype on facebook. Its a pretty average xmas tree and the light setup is average
