  • Do you know the activation deadline?

    • "You must activate your chosen prepaid plan on catchconnect.com.au within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised on the promotion (whichever is earlier). • Thanks. Offer ends 08/12/21, if we add 30 days, the deadline should be 7/1/2022

        • +3

“You must activate your chosen prepaid plan on catchconnect.com.au within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised on the promotion (whichever is earlier).“

From the way I’m reading it, the last day will be the offer date (08/12/21) as it says whichever is earlier.

Happy to be wrong though because my plan expires on 05/01/22 so this would be perfect if you’re correct.

          • @Advantan: I am in the same boat. DYOR is the safest option. I was guessing.

          • +2

            @Advantan:

From the way I’m reading it

looks like you can read, anyone else that thinks its another date cant.

          • +2

@Advantan: so from the description "…Your SIM card will be dispatched to your delivery address within a few days…" assuming the SIM is bought in the last 1-2 days 7/8 Dec, unless the SIM is activated at the time of purchase, there is no chance the SIM will arrive by the 8/12 for it to be activated by the user?

            • @mountaineer: Yeah I agree, I think you're right.

I was thinking of waiting until 6th Dec to order this, so it takes a week or 2 to deliver, then I'll have another 30 days on top of that to activate.

        • +1

from my previous experience, it still works for 30days from 8Dec even though it says whichever earlier. Chat also says within 30days.

          • +1

@Tomato: I was told similar, 30 days from receiving the sim. Here's the chat online I had with a rep:

The last day you can purchase is the 08/12/2021, however the promotion usually finishes in the morning so best to purchase before the 07/12/2021.
The last day you can activate would be 30 days from you receiving the sim card.

  • Anyone had experience with both BOOST (Telstra 4G) coverage and Optus 4G plus coverage. My Boost plan expires in a month so I'm keen to take this offer up as long as the coverage/reception won't drop off too much?

    • +1

I am currently using Catch. In my area, I was meant to get 4G but I had trouble with phone calls and some limitations on bandwidth. Before that I used Boost mobile, it did OK. I am planning to switch my Catch mobile numbers to Boost and Boost to Catch.

    • +8

Totally depend on your location. Better test them to see yourself.

    • +5

Boost is a better option when it comes to coverage in general

      • -3

Welllll, I remember some jokes claimed bargain "Boosts 100GB for $154.70".
This deal "240GB for $109" is a good answer for those false bargainers

And Optus network is great, no false promises
Not to mentioned Boosts does not offer phone call support, and days to respond web inquiries, stay away from Boosts

      • +3

But your paying for that extra coverage you may never use, so it all comes down to each individual's needs (home/work location and where they travel to).

I switch between Telstra, Optus and Vodafone (yes, I'm a SIM slut!) and 99% of the time only ever use my phone in well-populated areas - I don't notice any difference with the 3 of them in Melbourne (Home) then Sydney (North Shore), Brisbane (Spring Hill) or the Gold Coast when I travel there to see family (that's where I use my phone 99% of the time).

If heading into lower populated or remote areas, Telstra/Boost will be better, 100%, but you're paying for those extra towers in your lower value plan, which people like me, rarely, if ever need.

In fact the majority of the towers in my area for all 3 providers are on the same buildings (easy to find this online).

If you can find me a 365-day plan with 240GB of data for $109 on Boost, let me know :)

        • Telstra is famous for years taken a good ride in Australia, furthermore ethically worse company to traders with poor condition, such as late payments to traders.
Boost is no different, poor customer service (no phone contact available), expensive data provider. So, Boosts does not provide bargain, but some dealers trying to sell here as a bargain.
I also travel Byron Bay, Northern rivers NSW, Brisbane and Central QLD. Optus (I use catch and Circles.Life) is great (including highways and rural roads).

    • +1

I switched over to Catch the last time this offer came up. I was with Optus before but I have found many more drop outs with Catch when compared to Optus. YMMV but if I am happy to be saving the money rather than paying it to Optus. Usually Airplane mode fixes the issues but one time I had to restart the phone to get it to work.

    • +2

I just switched over from boost to catch.
Never had a problem with 4G coverage with boost.
Catch has been ok for the past week but today it keeps dropping in and out. I've barely had any 4G coverage today! Really annoying. Not sure if it's the weather or what…

      • +4

Thanks to all above. Sounding like BOOST may be worth the extra $$$

        • +3

100%!!! I regret changing from boost now. Now I feel like I'm stuck with catch for the next year …
$100 isn't worth the frustration levels I'm dealing with today hahaha

          • @xtngo: where are you located? or using your phone from?

            • +1

@txb: South Eastern suburbs in Melbourne. But I take back my comment hahaha it was just dropping in and out because of a tower getting fixed I think…it's been fine since. I've also noticed it doesn't eat up much data when I'm out either? Apparently I've only used 2mb and I've had it for 2 weeks!

              • @xtngo: Glad to hear it worked out :)

      • Did you check the Optus cell outage site when it was dropping out? They may be working on a tower in your area to install 5G or upgrade the cell, which they need to switch off for radiation and safety reasons.
I say this as when Telstra was installing 5G on my local cell, the same thing happened (all 3 networks switched off while workers were on site) and I could see them on the tower as I have a line of site to my local Vodafone/Telstra/Optus cell (all on the same building).

        • Ohhhhh that makes sense! I tried to check the optus outage site at the time but it wouldn't load 😂😂 but you must be right because as soon as I left work I regained connection again!

          • @xtngo: I meant check the Optus site with your fixed internet, unless you didn't have this, which wouldn't help ;)
Anyway, outages with all of them on different cells are happening a little at the moment due to 5G upgrades occurring.

    • +2

You can't beat Telstra coverage. Optus and Vodafone are simply not as good. The question is, do you actually need it.. For me i don't. 99% of where i go around Sydney both Optus and Vodafone are fine (both are very good where i live). There are some exceptions, but we don't go there regularly, so i don't feel the need to pay more. That said, when i do venture regional, coverage can often be problematic. But that is a conscious choice i make to save a little coin.

      • For the 1% of the time you travel to a remote or regional area, you can always get a Boost or Telstra SIM and throw that in, you can usually get a 1-month starter SIM for cheap as chips (different number with a diversion on, easy done).

        • +1

          Ah yes just checked now
"We're currently investigating reports of an issue with a mobile tower in this area.
You may experience problems making calls, using the internet or sending/receiving messages in this area."

Well in that csse… Catch hasn't been too bad otherwise 😂😂😂

    • Was on 365 day plan before. Experience is kind of mixed with drop outs and no internet sometimes. Otherwise mostly ok. I'm in Brisbane.

    • As a grey nomad, I run duel SIM - Optus (generally reseller like Catch) and Telstra. Cover both bases.

    • Which area do you live?

  • +2

Nice, would have given you a +1 just for not telling everyone you're a first time poster :P

  • Any other deals with more DATA but same days?

  • wow, this deal is still a better deal than this Amaysim deal.

  • Can you port in? Or do you have to get a new number?

    • +1

I assume you can port in

    • +2

yes you can port in and keep your old number

  • +1

I get decent enough coverage with Amaysim (Rural QLD) will Catch be the same for coverage as both use Optus Network?

  • With all the annual plan from last year's Black Friday sale due to expire, this is great timing.

    • now it is time to make a bet whether Kogan's BOGOF will be back; do we risk it and wait?

  • does anyone know if catch use the same Optus network as coles mobile? How long does it normally take to receive the order nowadays? Thx :)

  • I always sign up for per month deal, with this one, your 240GB of data can be stretched out for 365 days or does it have a cap per month?

    • +1

It's 240gb to use over 365 days, no monthly cap.

  • +2

Is this the same quality as Coles mobile? Since they both use optus?

  • If you have a $89/85 one not yet activated, can you upgrade to this one and pay the difference.

    • i doubt so as i hv asked chat before.

  • Bought 2

    • Dont forget cash rewards/ shop back

    • On different accounts I presume?

      • nah go to catch connect via cash rewards up the quantity and click buy

        • You can actually purchase more than 1 with the same account. But it has to be in separate transactions.

  • Does Catch use the full Optus Network?

    https://whrl.pl/RgfbCE

    • +2

Good point, this is often hard to know. Having worked in the industry 20 years I know at least historically Telstra and Optus have often not offered the same retail and wholesale (i.e. catch, coles etc) network experience. Both in terms of network capabilities and coverage (i.e. no VoLTE, not access to full 4G network etc). Possibly even network priority as well. These things change over time and wholesale agreements so as a customer its hard to know whats what. But if the carrier and the MVNO (in this case Catch) have set everything up correctly then Catch should be displaying via their website a coverage map correct for their agreement with Optus…. for what limited benefit coverage maps are!!

      • Slightly off topic but last weekend Optus was doing maintenance on their App and when I tried to check my normal Optus account my "catch" plan appears;) never seen it there before haha
Shows its just another "plan" in the ecosystem that is Optus.

And back on topic I use my "catch " sim
in the same location as my Optus sim and never noticed any variation.
My only caveat would be *service wise */sim swaps etc would be a bit more hassle. (With Optus can pick up sim anywhere pretty much)

    • +1

I have been using Catch for the past 2 years. good coverage in my area (Kingswood NSW). I can easily reach 350Mbps download and 50Mbps Upload every time I do a speed test. I am on the 4G (not sure if it is Volte). but 350Mbps is damn good for my use. Cheers

  • +1

My amaysim plan expiring next month , looking at the data its a pretty good deal. Any problem porting from amaysim to CatchConnect?

    Thanks OP.

  • Does anyone know if you can use this Catch deal on a phone that is locked to Optus??? The phone was purchased as a brand new Optus Prepaid phone. TIA

    • Yes it will work

  • Tempting, but will wait Boost deals at BF.

  • +2

I wonder why Boost, Coles Catch dont offer this as a recharge over us having to port out and then port back in. It would make sense to keep their customers

    • +1

They're counting on those of us who are lazy or busy or unaware

      • but we are from ozbargin we are always aware

        • most people are not on Ozb

  • What if your phone number has been with catch before and you ported out. Can you port back in with this offer? Does that count as a new service

    • +1

I think you'll be sweet, I haven't done this with catch before but have with other providers without any issues. I've heard of people who are with catch currently, porting out to a cheap Sim card (from another provider) then port back in on the same day or near to it and get the deal.

      • I thought you had to be with another provider for 30 days before going back to Catch?

        • That's definitely with Kogan but not sure about Catch.

  • What will happen if you go over your 240GB quota? Will it start charging per additional MB?

  • +1

Best to port away to another deal as Catch charge $10 a Gb or $15 for 2 Gb top ups.

    Full info here
    https://catchconnect.com.au/cms/catchconnectmobile_cis_-16_a…

    • Do you mean it automatically charges top ups $10/GB when the data runs out?

      • You manually top up.
        It is not automatic .

  • This looks like a good deal, as long as I don't have to keep buying Catch Extras credit every 30 days! I've read through the Catch Connect Pricing Summary here: https://catchconnect.com.au/home/page/pricing but am a little confused.

I need voicemail - if I don't have any Catch Extras, do I still get voicemail retrieval for free? The Pricing Summary seems to suggest that if I want free voicemail I need to have both a valid plan AND valid Extras credit.

As a lower priority, but still important to me, I'd like to occasionally divert calls to my Telstra SIM (on the same phone) for when I'm not in Optus coverage region. In order to use call divert, do I need to have Catch Extras credit? It seems they will expire after 30 days even on a 365 day plan, and I don't want to be buying min $5 of credit every 30 days.

    • Hmmm ok from further reading I see voicemail is included as standard. I'm still not clear on call divert though, do I need Catch Extras to enable that or is that included in the unlimited value??

  • If already with catch connect. Whats the cheapest way to port out and back in? Thanks in advance

    • $5 Vodafone

      • Thankyou

      • Or $5 Aldi

  • Just paid $95 to renew my Aldi data-only SIM for 30GB/year…

  • Only accepts Visa as payment method.

  • +1

    Hey Guys,

Does anyone know if Catch Connect allows call forwarding to another mobile/lan line & if you can receive SMS messages if overseas?

  • Can you buy this with a gift card saving 6% if you're a suncorp member?

    • Yes, via catch app though

  • its weird, but, on CATCH, while on a call, it switches to 3G, so you can send pictures and be on the phone via whatsapp for example

    Is it just me?

    • It is because Catch/Coles does not support VoLTE. That's why it falls back to 3G for voice calls.

      • yeah thoughts soo… thanks,

      • Does it mean the voice quality will be worse compared to amaysim?

        • That depends on 3G/4G coverage. If there is good 3G coverage, then the voice quality will be great too. (but you won't be able to browse the internet at 4G speed when you are on the call).

  • Hi guys, when you activate does it show double data? I am having a look with a sim I bought a while ago and it says $109 and 120gb data. Thanks

    • +1

if u go into view dashboard it should show 240gb allowance

  • +1

Can anyone comment on how this differs from being with amaysim?
seeing as they both use the same mvno optus network..?

    • im guessing they should be similar
