This is unusual - discounting Apple stuff.
    Good work OP.

    • +2

Because it's the Apple TV 4K 1st gen discontinued model. Apple no longer manufactures this model.

But i suspect the only difference between this last gen model and the new 2nd gen one is the remote control.

      • +2

My mother in law has the old model.
        The remote drives me crazy(er).

        • +1

You could easily buy a compatible One For All remote control with Apple TV support.

This one is compatible. Actually i own one and am using it with my Apple TV 4K 1st gen. It's a damn fine remote control for a media player.

          https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/one-for-all-streamer-univ…

          • +7

@hollykryten: You can also buy the current Apple TV remote separately and pair with your previous gen model

            • +1

              @p1owz0r: Yes i know.

Unfortunately the Apple TV remote control is not compatible with any thing else other than the Apple TV. Unlike the One For All streamer remote control which is compatible with multiple media player boxes including Apple TV.

So i chose to buy the One For All Streamer remote rather than the Apple TV Siri remote. And i wasn't going to pay $82.95 for the Apple TV remote when the One For All Streamer cost less with its multi device compatibility. Unfortunately but i found it doesn't support the Nvidia Shield. But it works with the Xbox One X.

But i was just saying the One For All streamer remote is an option because it definitely supports the Apple TV 4K.

Honestly how does Apple get off charging so much for a remote control for what it is.

              • +1

@hollykryten: Ultimately Apple can charge whatever they want, but it's your choice to buy or not buy it. There are plenty of alternatives :)

        • +1

2nd Gen remote is backward compatible.

        • +3

My mother in law does not— still drives me crazy,,, :)

        • +1

Agree. The remote is an abomination.

        • As long as your tv has Arc hdmi port , you can just use your tv remote to control Apple TV

          • -3

@rhyme324: So you think ARC allows your tv remote to switch between apps, scroll through Netflix, Youtube etc and select videos etc on an Apple TV through a HDMI cable?. No it doesn't.

HDMI ARC only allows you to control audio volume. You can't use it as an Apple TV remote replacement.

That's why it stands for audio return channel. It carries nothing but audio signal data.

The only actual data transfer (other than video and sound) through a HDMI cable is through the Ethernet over HDMI channel. But even Ethernet over HDMI can't actually control an Apple TV with a bog standard TV remote control. Nothing can control the Apple TV unless it's a remote control which actually supports Apple TV with the correct code.

            • @hollykryten: I control my apple TV via ‘bog standard’ remote on my 6 year old Hisense. No doubt isn’t via ARC, but maybe HDMI-CEC or something?
I can scroll through & control all native and 3rd party apps on the apple tv.

            • +1

@hollykryten: My fault, it isn’t called arc, maybe cec or something. As long as you make a correct setting on your TV. My 7 years old LG tv can do it.

          • +4

@rhyme324: ARC is Audio Return Channel, you're talking about HDMI-CEC,l.

      • Apple upgraded the SOC too but unfortunately not the latest ones in iPhones.
It means this discontinued model is now only the second most powerful media player.

Nationwide stock check for you guys:
    https://nrby.in/officeworks/aptv4k64gb

    • +4

So there's essentially stuff all stock left nationw wide. There must be less than 20 units left in stock in the whole of all Officeworks stores in Australia. Explains why it's discounted by so much. You can hardly even obtain it. Good luck finding it.

      • +8

The website linked finds it for you mate

        • @Arigato hey mate, can you turn your PM on please? I'd like to ask you something about the Acer Nitro 5 that you seemingly purchased

          • +1

@CVonC: Hi , my order was cancelled. They oversold.

      • +1

Getting close to one tenth of FA

    • +1

How many stores are compatible with this website? Is it only OfficeWorks?

        • +1

          Or Bunnings!

    • Love the format. Cheers

    • yeah but will they price match a clearance product?

    • Are you taking suggestions on how to improve that site? Could i request a map directions link next to the phone number so it links to google maps with the directions?

      • +1

Really? Is it that hard to type in "Officeworks ____" into Google to find that information?

    • Thanks for the link. My experience is they can, never, find it in the store. However, worth the walk.

    • Your link shows 1 at Fitzroy. Their system said zero. It would be impressive if it worked

      • +1

The site is cached so it's not hitting the OW site for every visit (check the time in the footer), it's accurate at the time it gets the data. With numbers that low it's best to call the store first, that 1 might not even be in the store despite their system saying it even when you get there.

    • What is nrby.in?? Is it only applicable to Officeworks as I can find very little info on it but seems like a very useful tool if it has a large take up by retailers.

  • Nice find OP!

Beware no Thread capability on this 1st Gen AppleTV 4k, otherwise this can be nice alternative to serve as a HomeKit hub if you're not keen for a HomePod mini (which has Thread compatibility)

    • -4

Unfortunately except it seems that there's hardly any stock left nation wide. You'll have a better chance at winning the lotto than finding this product in stock at your local Officeworks store.

      • +18

Would you like to borrow my name for a while?

  • +4

    Uploaded the receipt here:

    • Unfortunatley a lot of retailers refuse to price match a product which is on clearance at the competing store. It's actually in the price match terms that clearance products are excluded. So good luck with it.

I doubt any one will get a price match with this. And there's barely any stock left nation wide so stock is extremely limited.

      • +1

I’ve been PM’d about an officeworks with stock but still at full price. This was for that person.
Agreed it’s difficult to price match at a competitor.

        • Likely trying to price match the 2021 version.

        • Yeah they probably quoted you the 2021 2nd gen price.

  • Try to get the new remote if you can (can be bought separately), it’s much better.

  • +1

Missed out at Rothwell by 20 mins :(

    • Somebody took all 3! Bugger.

      • Broden does it again!

        • let's go broden!

      • Yeah it will probably end up on ebay.

  • Got the last one in NSW. They tend to be locked away so you will have to ask the cashier for it.

  • +1

    https://hd-report.com/apple-tv-4k-1st-gen-vs-2nd-gen-compari…

great price if you dont buy the new remote.

but, the old remote is really annoying to use

if you buy a siri remote your total cost is ~190 which is pretty close to the OW price match to JW deal for the latest 4K model which adds Thread, wifi 6 and is faster so will be supported for longer

  • +5

Apparently the 32 GB 4K on clearance too..got one picked from officeworks Loganholms QLD for $87.60 and they still have 2 more left.

  • -1

Poor #officework, they don’t sale me this as other stores’s special

  • +1

Just wanted to give some feedback as I already own this device. Overall this is a fantastic media viewing device, incredibly powerful and quick. If you’re highly in embedded in the Apple ecosystem, you are going to find everything seems to just kind of work, As in everything is synced together. Not only that, if you are using things like iOS shortcuts on your iPhone, you can quickly AirPlay or hand off media to your AppleTV with in a split of a second.

If you don’t own an iPhone then you can still enjoy and will enjoy utilising this device as a standalone device. It is incredibly fast, and quickly replaced my android TV over a year ago.

As for the remote and whether or not it’s really a big difference, well I’m not gonna be upgrading to the new Apple TV until this one stops. Basically, I utilise hand off and AirPlay with iOS shortcuts a lot. But, I do find myself going back to my remote here and again, and seriously it’s not that much of a problem, I got used to it within the first week.

  • This is great for Just Dance. The kids can use the remote rather than your smartphone with this model (it doesn’t work with the newer remote)

  • FireTV does the same job as Apple TV?

    • +1

Apple tv is best for streaming from apple device and also video games. I must say that I have both and use more the firestick (as you can have teatv and other apps that aren't allowed on apple)

      • I can't figure out how to watch the next episode of a show on TeaTv Watchlist? I have Firestick 4K & TeaTv 10.3.2r. I see Watch Now button which always plays the first episode of the first season. I have Trakt sync so the episodes are being marked as watched but I don't want to have to scroll down to seasons then scroll down to episodes just to watch the next unseen episode.
        I know Kodi works automatically.

        • I am not sure tbh I always go back and choose next one

          • @fozzie: But what about when you watch on a later day how do you get it to play the next episode without specifying season and episode?

            • @plapic: I go to the recent session. The shows recently played are there.

              • @fozzie: The Recent option from the menu just gives me a list of shows I have watched recently and when I select the show all I get is Watch Now (whichs loads season 1 episode 1) or Choose Season (which is what I have been using) and Trailer. So unless you have a different version of TeaTv I can't see how "next episode" is loaded automatically.

                • @plapic: I think I know what the problem is. I've been adding shows to Trakt Watch List and apparently the moment you watch any episode from it the entire show is removed from the watch list. How stupid! So it looks like you have to add every episode from every season that you havent watched which makes it cumbersome to view the watch list if you have quite a number of different shows.

                  • @plapic: Actually its worse than I thought. When you now select an episode you get the Watch Now option which ignores what you chose and loads season 1 episode 1. This app is ridiculous.

Thanks OP Got one. 👍🏼 VIC, Chirnside Park

  • +1

got mine $99.60 few weeks ago

    • 32g or 64g ??

  • +2

    64g same as OP

  • Only worth it if you're fairly deep in the apple ecosystem. Otherwise a Chromecast with Google tv will suffice

  • +3

    Thanks OP - Rothwell still has stock 32GB ($87.60) and 64GB ($99.60)

  • -1

Officeworks still showing full price .. hmmmmm ?

    • That’s a different model.

  • If it helps I used the ow docket that was uploaded above and good guys went down to $155.00 for the 64 gb today.
