Yeah, I found that it was easy to unscrew the battery compartment. Doesn't affect me for my use, but I would keep it away from young kids for sure.

They WERE useful until Apple kept watering down their abilities in fear of them being used for stalking.
Their upcoming iOS change basically makes them completely useless as it allows ANYONE (including thieves) to turn off other peoples AirTags. That basically makes these (and I sadly own 4) completely and utterly 99%useless

Eh, doesn't sound that bad.
Firstly, the user has to go out of their way to scan for AirTags (which they can only do from iPhone). Then they actually need to find the tag in order to disable it (where I am using them for theft prevention, they are very well hidden, even taking into account making noise).
I think the likelihood of the above is fairly low. Still useful in my eyes.
Are these useful for Android users?
Not worth it with shipping. Other places on eBay that are cheaper once you take shipping into account.
