Each to their own, but I can't imagine having one of these things in my house. Are they back in vogue? I remember by grandparents having on in their lounge room back in the 80's.

    • -2

Agreed. My parents have one of these on the wall as well as a buffalo or ox. I think they are really tacky and from a different time.

  • +1

    What decade is it?

  • +9

    I will skip this deal.

    • +10

Hop over this one for sure

  • I think my dog will freak out seeing what happens to animal's skin after they die

  • +2

Did you hear about the kangaroo that had no friends? He was always roo-d.

  • I'm having mixed feelings. When I go to Costco and feel sheepskin rugs vs faux fur rugs, faux rugs win everytime. At the same time, kangaroo fur can also be soft. On the other hand, animal cruelty and I don't want to add to the damage. Will have to skip on this one.

    • Sheepskin rugs can vary in quality a lot. I personally haven't come across any faux one at costco that i like as much as the real one we have (we go to costco regularly), they are good but different. Curious if my dog would like this kangaroo one in his bedding haha

We eat animals, how is using their skin/fur any different? Pretty sure all these roos are responsibly sourced

      • +4

Exactly. Why waste the fur if the meat is used for food, and especially dog meat.

Is it cruel for dogs to eat meat?

      • +2

Making use of all the parts is, in a way, not disrespectful to the death and suffering of the animal. However, my personal view is: by supporting an industry that adds value to the animal is indirectly harming it. I.e. the skin is sold for a profit, which means buying the skin is financially supporting the slaughter of the animal.

I'm not saying you don't buy one. I'm saying I won't buy one.

        • Not sure why you were negged initially, pretty fair and balanced comment and weren't forcing your views on others, just giving your opinion.

        • +2

Great summation of your feelings. I bought one during a previous sale and when it arrived and I opened it I had a feeling of melancholy wash over me.

When I bought it I thought about the ethical dilemma and decided it was alright to buy the pelt as the animal was going to die anyway/already dead and this is just scraps otherwise.

Upon receiving it I felt like I'd been lying to myself a bit. The animal is likely killed legally and for a good enough reason but giving money to a product like this I fear invites the possibility of more kangaroo rugs than there are kangaroos one day through support of the industry/products

          • +1

@SpainKing: I'm only guessing here but I would imagine only a fairly small percentage of kangaroos culled/killed for food would have the pelts processed and sold.

  • The cats will love this

  • -1

Lol shouldn’t be like this shape….

  • +1

Any matching deer, or horse heads for the wall?

    • +2

Horse?? Nobody in history has ever mounted a horse head as a trophy.

But fresh horse heads can be useful for influencing movie producers' casting choices.

  • +1

Wouldn't all roo skins be Australian made? I mean how many other countries have a stock of Roos?

    • Suppose you can export the material and then process overseas.

  • +1

New code and 50 cents more expensive than the artificially expired "deal" from a month ago. Gaming our guidelines to gain exposure. Sad.

    • -1

      🤣 💯 👌

  • +2

Always chuckle at claims of cruelty. People obviously don't think twice about roo meat in the supermarket or understand the plague levels greys get after rains or with access to artificial water supplies (which is unnatural and destructive to ecosystems)

  • -1

The ultimate punishment for the Kangaroos coming last in the AFL

  • All rugs have been individually measured and are 160cm+ (Long)

are you sure about this ? :)

Prank gift? For $60, it would be worth it to see my mother-in-laws face on Christmas morning…. and everyone else laughing too. That would be my present to me :).

    What a deadset horrible product.

  • Aren’t kangaroos a massive pest throughout parts of Australia? Not trying to be a troll or bait but in all consideration I don’t see the ethical dilemma if they are causing destruction, making it more difficult for livestock and less arable land. Also of course increasing chances of road accidents (but that’s a human issue). I understand people see Roos as this sacred Australian animal but to me I see them just like big mammalian cane toads.
