why is aliexpress so expensive? especially the shipping, which is unusual from China. I see items cost more than $100 USD in shipping, and it's not even fast shipping. It's still going to take a month or so.

But a lot of things are expensive shipping unlike ebay.
Since the GST is based on the combined item + shipping cost (and the shipping is so huge), these coupons don't even counteract the GST.
