            • @affinity:

you'll also need to reimburse Telstra for any vouchers you received for entering into your plan

              • @wakie: Yes, but that is all handled by the penalty for ETC.

                • @affinity: it could be, but the language is (deliberately?) vague. Even so, I'd use the vouchers before cancelling the plan.

  • Is this on the full Telstra Network or the third party network?

    • +1

      Full Telstra with 5G

    • +1

      Should have gone to specsavers

  • It's hardly worth it for a phone, I'm already seeing Pixel 6 Pros for $1100 on Gumtree.

I get the same as this plan for $40-45 through Vodafone, I don't even use 1/3 of it. I could probably be on a cheap plan and save $15-$20 p/m

    • Does the gift card have to used for a phone?

      • +2

        Can be used for anything

        • Yeah, can be anything.

    • I'm porting over from Vodafone because their 5G network is shit, and I need better rural coverage.

    • +1

I get the same as this plan for $40-45 through Vodafone, I don't even use 1/3 of it. I could probably be on a cheap plan and save $15-$20 p/m

You don't use even a 1/3rd of it because you only have service 1/3rd of the time?

  • +2

It excludes current Telstra, Belong and Boost customer… damn

    • And woolworths mobile I assume?
(So bad internet connection even though in CBD)

      • +2

Nope, Woolworths mobile and ALDI mobile etc are fine

        • Thanks!
I thought it would be as it's under Telstra?
          Good to know!

          • @y_owez: MVNO are fine. Belong is owned by Telstra so a bit different. And Boost gets the full retail network rather than wholesale so must have signed a different agreement.

    • +1

Way to stick it to the existing customers.

    • +1

You can do as per below. Confirmed with telstra rep over chat .

Me: Let me put it this way.
I get a new number X now and activate it. After few days I want to merge its plan with my existing number Y so I can keep my existing number Y with the plan from X. Then get rid of X.
I want to do this because I can't port in with the same provider

Rep: thanks for your explanation. You can do that. Definitely you can get number and after few days you can merge that plan into your existing number.

      • +1

Tomorrow i might try doing this at the store and see how i go. Thank you ! :)

Which means i go to JB Hi-Fi first, get the deal and a new phone number.

Once it's all set up and activated, i will need to contact Telstra to merge the plan to my current phone number which is on Telstra pre-paid.

So I managed to do this last week with the $500 for $69 but 200GB deal. Existing Telstra prepaid number, just got onto chat to first cancel that service then put my number onto the JB Plan, done in 30 mins with the one chat rep.
Of course the JB reps are oblivious to all this when I was signing up, asking what new phone number I wanted.

Then getting the $10 port in credit was most difficult and took around 10 goes but finally was able to do it. Everyone thought the $30 discount was already maximum but some hustling and words and got it to $40 discount per month. Be persistent.

You can’t cancel just for the gift card since you’ll need to pay back the gift card or part of it if you cancel within the 12 months.

    • Do you recall what you said to get the discount applied? Would mentioning something like a friend getting the discount help?

      • +2

My JB rep said I can, and that for porting in to Telstra as a new number I can get $10 off per month for first 12 months. Something along those lines.

    • Didn’t see this deal?

      • Last week only for a few days. Was listed on Ozbargain!

      • Looks like it was https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/660118
I can't see another $10 on this but seems like people got that too.
I am wondering if this goes down to $59 around boxing day without applying the extra $10 credit

    • Damn I didn’t see that deal last week. Hope it comes up again soon. Be keen to do what you’ve done.

    • Went to 3 Jb stores only to get the usual u can’t port to this deal if u already have a Telstra number. U need to sign up to a new Telstra number or have been ported out for 30 days

      • +1

Yeah of course they will, you just nod in agreement and go onto the app after and ask them to transfer your number to the new JB plan

    • How did u get the Telstra rep to sign u up on chat and then still get Jb to give u the gift card?

      • I get gift card on the spot.
Telstra app comes after when you go home! And you ask them for the additional $10 off!

        • U should be teaching a course and have a public holiday named after u 👌🏽

    • Is the 200gb deal still valid? Thinking of using this for my home internet instead of nbn

      • No unfortunately but maybe they’ll do it again next week? Don’t know.

    • Will this method work for existing boost prepaid number?

  • I'm currently with Telstra but it's out of contract and just paying monthly.

Will I still get the gift card if I cancel my old plan and use my old phone number for this deal?

    • Looks like you sign up at JB as if you were a new customer, then go home and cancel existing Telstra plan, port number over to new JB plan and ask for the $10 port in all together on the Telstra App chat.

  • If you can score the $10 extra discount, it's work out better.

Even better if you had 10% off GC.

I think for me personally that would shave another $200 off a Pixel 6 Pro and suddenly it's a pretty solid deal.

  • Port out of boost then sign up with this?

    • 30 day wait right?

      • Oh is this just common knowledge? Couldn't find it anywhere..

      • No need 30 day wait, I always change it to kogan prepaid and then back to telstra plan.

  • Do you get the GC on the spot and then can use to purchase a phone outright?

    • Yep

    • did it yesterday and yes they activate a GC at the register then spend it on the spot. You don't get to touch the GC.

  • I'm still on the old 30GB plan which I think started out at $39/month (including $10/month discount)? Plan has since risen to $45/month and $10 discount is due to end in December. This plan looks good but seeing as how I'm not having data limit issues, I'm thinking of just staying put for now.

  • +1

last two weekends were $99-$30credit with $500 GC, came with 150gb data

  • Have just done this in store. I'm with Belong so they couldn't transfer the number in and I had to get a new number however sales rep said to contact Telstra and get my original number transferred to this contract. Hopefully that will work.

    • Can this be done even with Belong? I’m on Belong and considering this, but cbf-ed porting out for 30 days to port back in.

Could you please report back if you do manage to get it done? Cheers!

      • +1

They said no. I just got a new number but will try transferring the number after getting the extra $10 off.

        • Cool, no worries. Let us know how you go. Thanks!

  • hi guys, is this as per the banner really in-store only?

  • So can anyone correct me if I'm wrong ?

Transfer to Telstra to pay monthly 59/month then you get 500$ GC

End up only pay 200$ per 12 months roughly correct?

    • That is only if you can actually get the $10 port-in credit that isn't part of the JB deal this time around.

      • $59 * 12 (assuming $10 port-in credit) less $500 —> $208
      • $69 * 12 (no port-in credit) less $500 —> $328 as the deal stands
      • Thank so much for your answer
10$ port in you must try yourself with Telstra is that right?

        • +1

Yes, jump on the chat. If the first person doesn't just try again. Be polite and mention your friend had the done or the jb rep said to do it. Key is to be polite in my experience ( but hey we should always strive to do that)

        • Yes, YMMV, other people above seem to have persevered and gotten the extra $10 off.

    • Yes if u were to be able to monetise the $500GC.

In reality u pay $59/month and at the end of it have a $500 GC to use.

If you cancel early - you pretty much pay a 50% penalty and all $500 for the gift card back whether you have used it already or not.

  • +1

69 upvotes for this $69 deal, nice.

  • Port out help…. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/664586
    - if you go to Circles.Life, then you need to get the LW (account number) from them in chat if you want to port out again before you see your first bill.
However, I've just started the port out process to Circles.Life and I'm not expecting my SIM until about the 25th. So, I /may/ end up looking at the next $500 GC deal instead of this one from JB right here.

  • Does JB Hi Fi typically discount the latest iPhones during cyber weekend deals etc. Could use the gc at that time.

  • I'm with Telstra but my contract term has expired 3 days ago. Do I still need to port out to another Telco only to port back to Telstra to qualify?

    • +1

Yes you need to be off Telstra, technically for 30 days. This includes some 3rd parties using telstra e.g boost. Some people port out to Vodafone or optus and are lucky to get connected straight back ( that is a gamble). Personally I signed up to a new account and then got Telstra to transfer my old number onto the account. Essentially your old number takes on that account. For you this is the only 2 ways. Just always be polite and keep trying to someone helps. I think option 2 is best for you. Don't forget to ask for a $10 port in credit, you might get lucky

      • +1

Juggling a new number from a signup with the old number you want to keep can be hit and miss. Plenty of people have suffered huge pain, including myself, when trying to do this via Telstra chat — I eventually got there by visiting a store and working with a person on the spot.

        • Yep you are right, I got lucky with the first person on chat. Both can be a hassle and both might not work.

      • Were you previously with Telstra or an external service provider? If I'm currently on a Telstra post-paid plan you think I can cancel and sign up for a new number with Telstra and just port my old number back?

        • Yes this is what I did. I can't guarantee that you will be able to - just be polite and move to the next consultant that can help you. Just mention your friend did this no problem or something along those lines

    • It can be frustrating to be out of the contract for 30 days considering most pre-paid plans are for 28 days, forcing you to go out for 2 months.
But I found Lebara do a 30 day pre-paid plan. and they have actually been really good XD I've been off the telstra plans for about 6 months now as I have just been missing the good deals like this and my Lebara data bank is up to 50gb (they just keep giving me data on this $15 per month pre-paid).

    • Legend got the offer too. Going to JB now

      • Got the transcript? They’re denying me. Saying that it’s available through Telstra but the one with JB HiFi is expired

      • Gives me a number to call instead of "I'll get one of our experts to help you with this shortly."

Snipit of the transcript if it helps.
I'm going to contact them a 2nd time before I go in and sign up.
FYI to others, despite this transcript others are reporting Telstra denying them the $10 port in.

      • I got denied too! :(

      • Same. Got denied :(

        • Just treat my transcript as your own. the only details offered was the name Adam. Just ignore that part. Its not like you have to show it to them. You just have to suggest you have already had this conversation and was assured it would go through.

      • So I literally just contacted them after the port in completed. They can’t add the credit yet because my service is not coming up at their end at the moment (asked to check back in 48 hours)

I told him that someone said $10 was denied because of Jb hifi deal he said not to worry it will be applied.

        • Is it $10 off p/m for 12 months or life of plan?

    • +3

2nd Attempt. So thats 2 for me. I'm going to sign up. This is enough for me to have grounds to cancel the plan if they don't apply the credit.

Rocel: Mine if good as well, and glad to have you here on chat. How can I assist you? Feel free to ask me.
      9:14, Nov 20
You: So I have just observed a Telstra deal at JBHIFI where they offer a $69 per month plan with a $500 gift card. I was considering going into JB to sign up, but historically have known of telstra adding a $10 per month port in credit upon signup. I spoke to a Telstra chat representative earlier on to confirm this and she did :) But just before I head into JBHIFI to sign up i just wanted to doubly confirm this is the case :)
      9:15, Nov 20
Rocel: I see, so you want to consider signing up for JB and just want to make sure that once you signed up the $10 credit monthly will be honored by Telstra?
      9:15, Nov 20
      You: Correct :)
      9:17, Nov 20
Rocel: Got it, yes once the service activated under JB the credit will be applied on your account. Right now to confirm you dont have service yet from Telstra?
      9:17, Nov 20
You: No I do not have a Telstra service currently. :)
      9:19, Nov 20
Rocel: Alright once you activate the JB service reach us back for the credit monthly.

        *Update
I have transferred over and successfully had the $10 port in credit applied first try.

        • Well played. We got a good rep eventually that was helpful. Need to go to JB and will get on the chat later today. Thanks for the help with the chat transcript

        • 1st rep said only JB can do it and he (Telstra) can't apply.
Now on the 2nd rep and they're checking my details… I feel this is going to be all weekend challenge

          Update from 2nd rep:
As per checking with your details I can see the plan which you are on is not having a credit discount, let me go head (sic) and check with my resources and give you the $10 discount on your plan.
I have successfully gave you the discount of $10 on your plan for 12months. Here is the reference number for the plan discount for $10 please note it down ###.

Update from 3rd rep (I had 2 chats going at the same time).
They also applied the $10 discount. It would be very interesting if I had 2 discounts at the same time…

      • Thanks for your tips. I just messaged Telstra asking for a $10 discount saying that I am currently with Woolworths and get 10% off my monthly shop. I asked for a $10 credit as an incentive to port to Telstra. I had 2 reps agree to give me $10 montly credit and one rep even sent me a copy of our messages as "proof"

    • Ran 2 chats simultaneously. First one I got escalated to 'manager'.
2nd chat accepted $10 immediately. I'm still speaking to the 1st chat (manager) to see if they would honor $10 p/m for the life of the plan instead of 12 months as I'm on a Voda $45 for 120 GB (I don't think the My Vodafone app is correct but that's what it's telling me).

      From the 'manager':
Thank you for letting us know prior to signing-up. The credit is to be applied for by JB Hi-Fi. You are seemed to be a valued customer. We are always here for you.

Considering I'm not yet a customer, they're telling me to go to JB to get the credit applied or something along those lines. I'll keep the other transcript.

  • I already have a Telstra plan for my iPad, my mobile is with Optus

Will I qualify even though I'm already a Telstra customer?

    • +1

You will qualify by porting the number from Optus, regardless of your existing Telstra number.

I had a chat with Optus myself earlier today, they are offering 50% off second mobile, FWIW, but only for 12 months … still it /might/ suit people whom need at least two numbers on Optus network and want Optus 5G.
