Pic? Where’s the $10 port in credit?

    • +2

Commenting here for visibility. You can see the transcript in my comment further down, I confirmed with telstra chat they will do the $10 port in credit.

      • I shared your chat transcript with another chat rep and they said they won’t do it for me. Just fyi

        • I spent over an hour with Telstra rep that checked with other reps and said they cannot change or apply any credit to JB plans. JB has to do it… Also fyi

          • @JaeTee: Keep trying. May take 10 goes.

            • +3

@Pianoman1: Yeah can confirm. We tried a few times and eventually got the right answer. Probably goes to show that some of the reps don’t know what they are doing more so than some reps making a mistake.

              • +1

@B Wat: Can confirm I got it on my 4th try. Initially the story was only JB can apply the discount. This is wrong, keep trying.

      • Transferred over this morning and had the port in credit applied first go.

  • I have to wait another 2 months, need to churn out then back in around Jan. Is this $10 off at all?

    • +1

Is it a 3 month churn with JB? Asking as i am a couple of weeks in and thought it was just 1 month but I am a flamin idiot so am probs wrong.

      • I have my current Telstra plan expire on 28 Dec, I have read you can churn same day as they have no access to Telstra bills.
I have a Kogan $12.95 3 month 60 GB sim that needs to be activated before 31st with a voucher. I am not worried about the churn time, more so with the release of the newer imminent S22, my timing should be good to go.
1 day churn is what I have read before on here, port in and out same day.

        • +4

They do have access to your Telstra bills. I have had an embarrassing moment before after not being entirely truthful with a JB employee.
          However, some don't care.

          • @theguyrules: hmm interesting, so what is the correct info, what is the minimum port out back in to get any deals?
I have read someone did it on the same day, I would rather do the right thing and have smooth sailing than a CF of in store issues when there could be many frustrated customers waiting in line.

            • +1

              @[Deactivated]: 30 days I heard.
I did get someone at another store sign me up on the day I ported out (a couple of hours later in fact).
He was just like "I'm not sure if it will work or not" and it did, of course.

              • +1

@theguyrules: I did get 30 days confirmed as just came back from JB and was informed their policy is 30 days, what they do otherwise is another thing altogether.

  • +3

This isn't the long awaited deal. Missing the $10/month discount.

    • Haha will update the description

      • The $59 deals are below the line offers. They are never advertised in catalogs.

  • It's back!

  • +1

Can't get $10 off from last time's deal.
Maybe my communication skill needs to be improved.

    • I've heard you may need to contact them a few times to get a rep that will do it

  • +1

Pretty sure you can chat with Telstra and get a $10 credit per month.

    • +1

Be prepared to escalate with Telstra when they don't apply it. I saved the transcript where Telstra chat confirmed I'd get it but it took several phone calls and and escalation before they honoured it.

      • +3

This was my experience over 3 months. They made it excruciating.

        • Make a complaint officially through Telstra if it doesn't happen in first chat - cust care team should apply.

      • +3

My friend signed JB $99-$30 plus $500 GC plan last week, and I helped him chat with 3 Telstra representatives online and got a $10 credit per month. So he's getting $59/mth+200G data + $500GC. Good deal for him. It is harder now, but it is still doable. Just change to a new representative when they say NO to you.

        • +3

Yes, I had success with this too on the same plan.
I asked “Hi there, a rep told me that I would be eligible for $10/month credit for porting into Telstra. Would you be able to help me with this?”
Worked on the first go, and appeared on my second statement as the first statement was generated before I had a chance to claim the credit.

        • Is this after signing the new plan and then in chat on the Telstra app?

        • +2

That's what I'm on. The chat part went fine, I was explicit about the JB deal and they confirmed I could get the extra port in bonus.

It was getting it actually applied that was a terrible experience - but the complaints process resolved it, that part was good in the end.

        • $59/month with $500 GC is about as good a deal as you'll ever get. Works out to $17/month!
How does the credit work, do you ask before you sign up or after? And how does this work if you have to sign up at JB?

        • Didn’t see this deal last week?

        • +1

can we also get a phone plan on top of this $59 sim plan ?

          • @ntienvu: yes you can

            • @educalifa: i have contacted Telstra to add a phone plan on top of this $59. They said i need to wait 2-3 months until my account has been well established. I am not sure if you have successfully done that right after activating the plan.

              • @ntienvu: I didn't but I was offered to when I signed up. I already have a decent phone so I didn't see the point but they definitely said it was possible.

    • QQ does this Telstra credit show up anywhere? Or just wait for the bill?

  • Finally

  • -1

Doesn't Vodafone do a $40/80gb sim only? Provided you use the voucher wouldn't it be better to have the extra $208 in your pocket?

    • +26

Yeah, but then you’d be with Vodafone.

      • +2

Ozbargain has changed, think of all the things you can buy with $208

        • +20

Just won’t be able to buy them online through your phone coz you’ll have no reception

        • +2

Like buy another Sim/plan that actually had workable coverage 😜

        • Haha

    • I would like to know how you got $208

  • +1
    • It was a catalogue advertisement. They don’t usually update website as they only do the deals for a few days at a time

  • Does the good guys offer the same deal?

    • +2

Just called the good guys, can confirm they have the same offer running.

    • TGG also have a $1,000 gift card offer for the $99 Telstra plan (200GB). Not bad!

  • 4g or 5g?

    • -4

      60GB plans are normally 4G

      • How does that work?

    • +2
      • Good to know, last time I saw this on JB's site it was only 4G.
        OP should update title.

        • +1

As I remember, the $49 plan was 4G only and $69+ plans had 5G inclusion; pretty sure it is the same today.

          • @affinity: Yeah probably where I got confused.

        • Updated description

Porting out of Boost today. Hoping $59 deal comes back for Boxing Day like last year

    • Does boost qualify as a port in?

      • +1

No - needs to be anything other than Telstra, Boost (or more recently) Belong. Aldi, Woolies and other Telstra MVNOs are ok, along with anything Vodafone and Optus.

        • So can’t port from belong ?

          • @Danstar: Boost can’t and belong can’t can’t 😂

          • @Danstar: Can we confirm you can't from belong? Belong use to be eligible and it was only Telstra and Boost excluded

            *Edit found it

"#Included data is for use in Australia only. *Gift Card offer available to port-in customers and customers who connect a NEW service to Telstra. Excludes Telstra Pre-Paid, Boost and Belong customers. Offer not in conjunction with any other offer."

      • +1

You gotta be coming from something other than Telstra for atleast 30 days according to Bankstown JB.

        Telstra/Boost/Belong all no good :(

  • +1

I managed to get $10 discount by calling up telstra when I signed up last month. Took me one phone call about 15mins. YMMV

    • +2

Is their call center back? They always refer me to the chat app

    • So you called after you signed up?

      • yes i called the day after

    • Phone number?

      • From memory I used the app and they gave me a call back

        • Thank you

  • Does signing up a new Telstra number for this deal, switching existing Telstra number to this plan and cancelling old plan still work?

    • +2

Yes, with some to-and-fro-ing on the chat + 4hrs of zero service as they process the transfer of number

    • +2

I did this last time. Tried with multiple chat attempts but they never managed to do it. Went to a store they said they can’t do it and for me to try via chat. Went to another Telstra store and they did it straight away

      • +1

Yeah I had issues with this as well. Eventually got it done online, but online + stores were told not to do it, so you had to find someone that hadn't gotten the memo..

        • Confirmed with telstra rep. They allow.

Me: Let me put it this way.
I get a new number X now and activate it. After few days I want to merge its plan with my existing number Y so I can keep my existing number Y with the plan from X. Then get rid of X.
I want to do this because I can't port in with the same provider

Rep: thanks for your explanation. You can do that. Definitely you can get number and after few days you can merge that plan into your existing number.

  • Is there a cooling off period? I ported out end of Sept.

Also how does the port in credit work? Do I sign up the deal and then ask for the credit? Why would they give u credit if u are already signed up and locked in for 12 months??

    • I think the cooling off period is 30 days

      • they will claim there is no colling off period

    • +1

Why would they give u credit if u are already signed up and locked in for 12 months??

They wouldn't, after you are signed up and locked away, jb hifi wipe their hands of you.

They are just an intermediatry, a doorknocker of sorts.
Telstra wouldn't give them the same kickback on your signup the day before this current deal started, so they're not going to give it to you unfortunately.

      • +1

I actually did get the port in credit like a lot of others did. I’m happy but it’s a weird model lol oh well haha

        • +1

Sorry I completely misunderstood what you meant by credit, I thought you were asking about getting the gift card after an earlier signup haha

  • -4

    Neg if you're a….

  • Does porting from say boost which is on Telstra network qualify?

    • *Gift Card offer available to port-in customers and customers who connect a NEW service to Telstra. Excludes Telstra Pre-Paid, Boost and Belong customers.

  • What is the deal here (curious)? Sign up for the plan, get 500GC and then cancel?

    • Have managed to cancel plan twice previously but I think they have put a stop to it.

    • +3

No, sign up and get 12 months @$59 ($10 back) a month and a $500 GC.

You cancel and you will pay the early termination fee.

      • Whats the termination fee? I remember a year or two back people were terminating and it getting like 100-200 out of it.

        • Works out to be approx 80% of the contract. Much worse now. Much better in the past when they were doing the same GC for the $49 plan

      • There are 2 ETC's, one for the contract and one for the GC you received. I did a similar deal last march and I have about $200 worth, $115phone, $85GC

    • +4

My brother in law did this last year. He paid the termination fee and still thought he was better off by a few hundred given the gift card.

When he went to use the gift card a few months later - it got declined and the store manager told him that head office had issued a guidance that inactive accounts due to early termination or early termination were not to have their gift cards honoured so they were canceled.

This was in Sydney. Not sure about elsewhere but I would be surprised if this isn’t a rule now given it was already in place last year.

      • -1

That's pretty rude. It should be yours to keep once you have the GC, especially if you pay any related early termination payment. They sure have you these days with pro-rata on the termination for both the service and the GC. The GC should absolutely still be worth whatever it was despite the termination of a related Telstra service as the penalty is already applied! Now I'm concerned about one of my GCs that still has a balance and I've just ported out to Circles.Life — they better not rob me. I don't really want to spend the "non-expiring" JB GC right now, but I might have to in order to be safe from this. :(

        • -1

It’s now explicitly in the terms

You'll need to pay an Early Termination Charge (ETC) equal to 50% of your monthly fee for the months (or part months) remaining in your plan term. The maximum ETC for your plan is set out in the above table. In addition to this, you'll also need to reimburse Telstra for any vouchers you received for entering into your plan. This Voucher Reimbursement Cancellation Fee is pro-rated, equal to the total amount of the base voucher divided by 12 and multiplied by months (or part months) remaining in your plan term. This charge will appear on your Telstra bill, the maximum of which is also set out in the table.

          • +1

@JamesHand: Yes, that's the penalty, but I'm not reading that your GC would suffer cancellation as well.

            • -1

@affinity: Yes. The GC is non expiring so no way they can cancel it.
Also what if you finish the deal then move to another network. Then decide to use the gift card after 2yrs? It should be honoured.
