  • Thank you so much. I ordered the two most expensive ones for $8 including delivery. Brilliant bargain, thank you. Spent this morning in the garden, and saw that a big bush has totally obscured the water meter, so I needed something new and sharp to cut this plant away, so these two items will do the job. Thanks!!

    • Yup, I just ordered two of the most expensive ones as well and it's still $8 total (including delivery)

      Thanks!

      • You just made my day

  • +1

i don't know how well it will handle a bush rather than grass

    • It won't, really. They'd be alright if you were into topiary or immaculately pruned hedges and were constantly pruning VERY soft growth only - otherwise definitely just for grass.

  • Thanks, nice find. Went looking for my garden snips yesterday and they had disappeared. And I was able to use a wish card I had won online.

  • i bought too…

  • great find - thanks for sharing

  • +3

"11cm cutting length" !? Smallest shears I ever saw. You sure they are not meant to be in the "personal grooming" section?

    • +1

      lol

I've seen hair cutting scissors not too far off from 11cm

seems like these shears might be way overpriced to start off with ($29.88)

BTW, has anyone else had experience with this brand?
      How would you rate it?

      • Seriously? Fiskar rocks. Finnish company.

        • Seconded!
Have done larger nylon/glass ones. They dominate the garden.

        • Thirded… I have a large branch-cutting-thingy.. paid prob $40 from Bunnings. Awesome quality.

  • bought snip and shear, thanks

    • you only save $3 on the snip….

      • +13

yep, was tempt to buy two shears for maximum saving, but not really need two, so leave one for others

  • Got it thanks

  • nice…

  • Awesome find. Will be OzBargained within minutes I reckon.

  • It also gave me 29 Qantas Frequent Flyer points??? for an $8 spend…

    • Yeap, 29 Qantas Frequent Flyer points :)

      • +1

if you buy 4 for $16, you get 89 points.

        • Mine said 0 points :(

        • Mine said 0 points :(

Do you have your FF number registered there? Once you do it just automatically calculates them.

if you buy 4 for $16, you get 89 points.

Damn! I thought I was doing well with 29 points for my $8! It took me long enough to add just 2 to the cart though - by the time I'd have managed 4 they'd have sold out. lol

  • +1

Thats the father-in-laws christmas present taken care of……

  • got the 2nd two items :)

  • i just ordered another 2 for gifts… :)

  • woah! so cool. Thanks.

  • Got a set. Thanks OP.

  • That is amazing deal.

  • +4

Good deal. But please be aware, the snip is not for cutting branches, it is for cutting hoses and thin metal / plastics. The shear is for lawn/grass - not hedges.

  • Great deal! Did anyone receive their email order confirmation yet?

    • +1

Found it - in the SPAM folder…

  • Fantastic! Thanks OP =]

  • +4

Brought but didn't get email confirmation, wonder if they will accept the purchase?

    my wishcard was charged $8

    NOTE!!!

EMAIL CONFIRMATION WAS IN MY GMAIL SPAM FOLDER

    • Yes, was in mine too. Odd, didn't happen on my last few BigW purchases.

    • I ordered but cannot find any email confirmation in my inbox and spam folders. My order status is 'Order Being Processed'. For those who have ordered, what is your order status?

  • -2

Here comes another MWave debacle! Good find though OP.

  • Bought two and I got an email from BigW saying "Thank you for placing an order…".
Might just take a while but I'm sure it'll go through since there's still stock.

    • +1

Thanks for letting me know this, but I don't think everyone will read all the comments of each deal.Like me, I didn't know that at all. I received newsletter from Big W as well.

  • +3

    Bought grass cutter & snips.
Dont have a need for 2 grass cutters.
    Left one for next guy.

    • -1

You are a nice! I bought two grass cutters, got them sent to my wife's workplace and instructed her to sell one on to a colleague. For anywhere between $4 and $29.88, depending on how nice that specific colleague it is ;-)

  • Great find, thanks op, order 4 set :D

  • +1

I've never used Grass Shear's before and never wanted any but I just had to buy em o.o

    • +3

Me too.. you know you've got a problem when you start buying things you don't need just because it's a bargain. I doubt this will be the last time either, lol

    • +4

They're really handy if you have little, yet hard to get at bits of the garden that seem to grow quicker than the rest…before you could have started up the whipper-snipper you can have the job done with a decent set of shears! :)

  • Time to get all emo…Fiskars man V Wild! :-P

  • I think the credit for finding this deal should go to Robinsoa in the listing http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/66473

    • I don't care about credits but care about how many ozbargainers benefit from the deal.

  • +1

RRP is usually $20, but great deal nonetheless! NB should credit original postee in the bottom of another post RE BigW http://www2.fiskars.com/Products/Yard-and-Garden/Grass-Shear…

People BEWARE - I ordered 2 sets of the shears on Monday and paid via paypal. I also placed 2 other orders the same way, one before and one after this order and they have gone through perfectly.

Today via the 'order status' check site I get a note 'Contact Service Center'. I have just got off the phone to find that my order has not gone through. Their advice 'we are cancelling this order due to a payment problem' and 'you should reorder through the website'. I advised them that the item was now out of stock. Their comment - nothing can be done.

Raised a complaint and was told, after a wait, that a note would be put on my file and 'when the item comes into stock again I will get it for the same discounted price'. I advised that as the item was a clearance item how would it be returning to stock in the future? Very very very displeased with Big W .

I would advise all that have placed an order to check the status of the order as you may be in a similar situation. I find it amazing that they knew that there was a problem Monday night but do not let me know at all, even though they ask for a phone number and email contacts. I have to blunder upon an updated reference 2 days after the event. Great system Big W. Thanks very much. I will not be holding my breath for the item to come back into stock.

  • +2

Unbelievable, in the time it took me to write the above, the order status has now changed back to 'being processed'. What does that now mean??????? I am now totally baffled.

Sorry, my mistake, on closer inspection in the body of the page it says 'cancelled'. Thanks Big W.

6pm - Later update, they had the courtesy of sending me an email to let me know it was cancelled. Pity they couldn't have sent one to let me know of the original problem. BUT I suspect that they had very limited stock and their system simply cocked up.

They are yet to reverse the paypal transaction.

    Check your own transactions people..

  • Normal price for grass shears at bunnings is $8.

Where do they get $29? That is ludicrous. Hedge shears are a different story.

  • +2

Got the grass shears today. They are inferior to the one I already got from Bunnings. It seems they are either fake Fiskars or they are really old stock. No way anyone would buy them for $29.

  • I put in two orders in on Monday, had some problems with payment and also didn't receive any order confirmation emails from Big W. Rang up Big W on Tuesday to confirm the orders had gone through - was told that both orders had gone through OK and the confirmation emails probably hadn't come through yet because the warehouse had moved recently.

However, both my orders still have the status of 'Order being processed'. I've previously had orders delievered from Big W within 1 or 2 days, so just wondering if this is normal or if anyone else is in the same situation?

    • I ordered the K'nex Demon Coaster together with 2 pairs of shears, and my status has also been "Order Being Processed" for the last 4 days. The last time I bought from Big W Online, it was deleivered within 2 days.
So yeah, wondering what's happening, and whether I should give them a call. Money has been deducted from my credit card and I haven't received an order confirmation either. Not even in the Spam folder.

      • Finally, got SMS to say they' have been despatched from Sydney!

  • just got a sms sayin it has been dispatched from sydney….eta monday….coolbeans

  • No more free postage!

  • Got my shears today too. Thanks, OP, for posting and robinsoa for mentioning it.

  • I bought two of each in 3 transactions. Today I received emails and sms messages saying that the two "cheaper" orders had been shipped. No word on the grass shears.

  • Received items today. Aus Post is getting really lazy. Someone rang the door and I was 10 secs away and by the time I opened the door, the driver was already gone. I bought them as gifts but they came in a box with no protection and was not present worthy.

  • Arrived yesterday, much worse quality than I expected. I thought all Fiskars products were good. Just ripping out plants with your hands does a better job than these tools.

  • Please be carefull with the grass shears nearly lost an eye when the spring load bolt launched at my face after 60 secs of use. I want my $4 back these are complete rubbish. the blades are nowhere close to aligned, what a rip off.

    • +1

Loose screw/bolt (the orange thing) fell out of ours, managed to tighten it and OK now.

Shears came pretty banged up, have definitely been on shelves for some time now. Mechanism felt sturdy and blades are sharp (as expected), for $4 ea delivered they will do their job.

      • Didn't fall off mine, shot off like a bullet. No idea where it went just heard the whizz past my ear. Quite dangerous.

  • Cheers to everyone who thanked me for the original post back in the BigW thread (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/66473#comment-805078).
    Happy gardening!

  • The Nyglass shears are made in Finland and are of reasonable quality.
The grass shears are made in China and it shows.
If I paid full price for the grass shears i'd be taking them back, but for $4 delivered they're OK I suppose.

    • Well, with that feedback, I am not as annoyed at my order being cancelled and missing out on the grass shears. However the principle is still very unprofessional especially for a large company, makes you think twice before dealing with them again in the future.

    • Yes the grass shears are horrible compared to the snips.
Why would Fiskars trash their brand by selling inferior made in china version? Nothing against Chinese made productsin general as some are great, but the Fiskars grass shears I got are mediocre. Still a good overall deal.

  • the grass shears are horrendously bad quality. literally after 2 minutes of use, it has fallen apart. definitely not even worth $4.00

    • My packet says they come with a 5 year warranty. Take them to a BigW to exchange.

      • +1

Cannot exchange as it was an online deal only and a clearance product i.e. no more available in store or at the warehouse. Only option is a refund.

Received my snips today, very impressed.

  • the grass shears aren't the best quality. certainly not worth $29! thankfully mine haven't popped apart (so far)

there's a bit of a gap between the blades but i'm not sure if this affects cutting since the blade edges do slide along one another.

    still, better than using scissors

  • my order just got cancelled today.

i bought the snips and the shears.
they shipped the snips about a week ago, so the shears were outstanding still. havent got any refund yet…. zzz

  • the grass shears are pieces of junk. the nut + orange washer + spring keep popping off. thankfully i've been able to find all the parts each time so far.

the nut unloosens a little bit each time you snip the blades
