  • Thanks mate. Is this the newest generation of minis?

    • +2

It should be. The older ones were called Google Home Mini. Nest mini is the 2nd generation.

      • Thanks mate

      • I got the home mini not sure what the difference is

I know the older one use normal usb cable I think the new one doesn't

        • Sound quality is much improved in this one.

  • +2

It says second generation in the description. If it's not, I'll just return it

    • +2

Honestly for that price, I really wouldn't care if it's not the latest gen. $18 is an absolute steal.

      • When it costs next to nothing or being dirt cheap. You know you are the product. Giving out data and personal information

        • +4

The grey one is especially nefarious. since its cheaper then the rest. Maybe its the way it subtly blends into a neutral background lurking always.

          • @Praer: He's my dirty little secret.

        • -1

I say nothing of any significant interest to my Google devices.

        • The reason it is so cheap is it's shit. I have one. Google Assistant will stop working constantly and the entire unit will need to be unplugged and plugged in again. Bluetooth also will randomly not work and even disconnect my phone randomly and refuse to repair. My girlfriend has one and it has exactly the same issues. Wish I'd paid more for a HomePod mini.

    • +2

Very slim chance any retailers would still have the 1st gen. That was ages ago.

      • Yes, was just thinking the same!

  • +1

    got one

  • Anyone have a screenshot of this when it was in stock?

    • Its still in stock at my nearby bunnings (vic)

    • +2

It was in stock in inner east of Melbourne until 5 mins ago. Now all gone even with larger radius

  • Thanks - got 5, xmas presents for work peeps sorted. Stock still in various stores.

    • Unless you've got other smart devices these are the worst presents ever. What are you gonna do with it other than talk out loud to Google? And this is from someone who has two and a bunch of smart switches/lights.

      • Tell it to read news and weather.only things I really do.my lights not compatible but alexa works

      • I don't have smart anything, but I check the weather, check facts and listen to music on mine. For 18 bucks I got my money's worth

        • +3

Hey Google, play Baby Shark, do do do do.

      • +1

Bold statement in a thread that's going nuts with people who want them.

Smart lights aside, I also use it to:
        * check measurement conversions in the kitchen
        * check the weather as I'm getting ready
        * play music
        * check traffic/travel time when I'm about to go out.

If you are lucky enough to have a big house you can even use them to broadcast messages to other rooms so you're not yelling across the house.

Necessary? Not at all. Useful? Absolutely.

        • +1

I also use it to work out if any particular leftovers are OK to feed the dog, I usually have my hands full and don't want to pick up my phone

          • @Jackson: ah yes I also make sure it's safe to feed the garbage disposal whatever scraps are leftover

      • +1

Use it as a bluetooth speaker? I use mine to play white noise when required. Also nice a compact for travel

      • My boys are always playing music off the speaker in the bathroom.
Much better then the nest for this use.

      • Let your kids play music and listen to audiobooks in their rooms, ask google questions, broadcast to their rooms instead of yelling and running up and down stairs - etc. We have a home mini in our room which we don't use - but definitely great to have multiple at this price for kids rooms and family broadcasting.

      • They are great for multi-room audio with surprisingly alright quality at a low cost. I know numerous people with these without smart devices. And whilst I do use mine for my lights, I use them for music just as much (have a combo of these and Chromecast audios hooked up to actual speakers in my house for full house audio). It's lovely to do chores around the house listening to a podcast and just have it still playing in the next room when you move to it.

      • I ask it questions all the time.
        Timers for cooking.
White noise for my toddler when he sleeps
        Music
        Shopping lists
        - You honestly can't see how having the internet at your disposal is useful?

  • wow lowest ever?

  • The mounting hook hole means it's new model

$16.98 with Officeworks Price Match :)

    • +1

But can you do click and collect when pricematching over the phone? Might go to a store, but it will probably be out of stock at bunnings by the time i get there and try pricematching it

      • +8

Yep, call 1300 633 423 and price match over the phone and ask for a C&C at your local store.

        • Thanks! Never knew this was an option. Just ordered two.

        • +2

I rang and they said no stocks at Bunnings so refused to price match.

          • @yktay2: I almost failed the stock check but if you find a bunnings within 30-45mins they'll still match

One Xmas gift sorted, thanks OP!

        • Just got one click and collect, thanks!

        • Thanks got 2 in Sydney despite no stock in Bunnings around me, no question asked

        • Same here, got 2 for pickup in Melbourne

        • @doweyy you are a godsend

    • Also just got one with click and collect, thank you!

    • Done! Thanks.

    • Can the Dot be used as a chime for the eufy doorbell?

      • Yes, any echo can I believe.

      • Yes, echo works better with eufy than the google nest mini does. E.g. you can use the camera detection as a trigger of a routine with echo but not possible with the nest mini. The funny thing is that on youtube, there is a workaround to make it trigger google routine and that is to place an echo next to the Google nest and configure it to say "hey google"…

        • That's funny. You don't happen to have the link to the video do you?

    • Or get it delivered for free for about the same price. ($18.05 with 5% off eBay Plus code)

  • Thanks got 2. Staff were surprised. Marked at $69 on shelf but scanned at $18. Thanks OP. This is Ashfield NSW and had a few left.

    Looks OOS now online everywhere.

    • +1

all gone now @ Ashfield on shelf

  • +1

Thanks OP - I grabbed 4 of them as Christmas presents.

Have enough free ones from amazon

  • can you use this as a Bluetooth speaker?

    • +1

yes you can, via the home app.

    • Yes, you can't tell it "hey google enable bluetooth" and then connect to it from your phone

      • IMO, Echo Dot is better as a bluetooth speaker (and has the added bonus of aux out to make an old stereo smart). The response time of Alexa is also faster.

For general use though, I prefer Google.

        • Echo Dot is the same price in Bunnings if anybody wants one and is lucky enough to snag one (sausage pun intended).

    • +1

yes but needs to be plugged for power

  • Nice. Need one for my youtube premium since I cancelled Amazon music :D

  • Getting an error when I try to checkout. Says item is no longer available :(

    • in-store only.

      • Thanks! Looks like I am visiting my local store on my lunch break

check the stock level online. Only 1 store in Perth that actually stocks these.

      • I ordered 2 click and collect. Stock maybe all gone.

        • Looks like all gone now.

  • Thanks OP. Grabbed a couple for the man cave and the dunny!
