CS Personal Finance Tracker SpreadSheet $6 (Was $8) @ CompiledSanity Personal Finance

450

In light of the recent YNAB pricing changes I was helping my friend get setup with my favorite spreadsheet when I noticed it was on sale for Black Friday for $6.

This is a popular sheet on OzBargain and received 200+ upvotes last time this was posted at this price

I've been using this for a few years now and it's worth every penny. It tracks my investments (stocks, property, crypto), sends me monthly savings notifications, has a budgeting system and helps visualize all your finances in one place. While it might seem odd for a paid spreadsheet there's an insane amount of effort that's gone into it.

Also great because it's a one off purchase and I'm hosting my own financial data which I'm much more comfortable with. I'm sure others can vouch for it too as its popular on the AusFinance subreddit.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2021

  • Did they (YNAB) increase their annual price? I searched but could not find any info

Yes, they sent it out to subscribers via email, here's an excerpt:

      Hey YNABer,
We recently sent a message in the app, and wanted to send an email as well. YNAB’s subscription price will be changing to $14.99/month or $98.99/year USD (plus tax where applicable). This change will be reflected when your subscription next renews on or after December 1, 2021.

    • The increase starts December 1. Most people who are upset over the increase are those who had previously been grandfathered in at $50usd/year and are now only getting a 10% discount off the $98.99 usd price. For those who joined more recently at 84.99usd/year the increase isn’t so bad. I joined through Apple using discounted iTunes gift cards (now everyday rewards points) so not too concerned about the increase.

I can vouch for this. Probably the best personal finance tracker. I also love how the he always tries to improve the spreadsheet and you get free updates.

  • Is your information safe? One of the reasons why I'm reluctant to put all my finances in one central place on the internet is because of security. Sorry for the noob question (I am not tech-savvy on security) but it uses Google sheets so does that mean that your information is as safe as the security on your Google account?

    • I definitely feel this is more safe than a lot of the other finance platforms out there. You download the Sheet and host it yourself, so no-one else can access it. There's also this on the FAQ that helped me when I first looked at it:

The Sheet has been designed to be completely self-contained. When you download the Sheet and make a copy, it's now it's own independent copy hosted by you. The external services permission is triggered because the Sheet uses live Crypto, Stock and Managed Fund prices which requires the sheet to fetch external prices from Google Finance, Yahoo Finance & Bloomberg.

You can review all the formulas to see how that works, but it's strictly a one way fetch process and if you go Tools -> Script Editor in the Document you can review all the code yourself to make sure it checks out. Furthermore, no personally identifying information or sensitive information such as passwords/usernames are needed nor requested. The only inputs into this Sheet are holdings and amounts, the minimum information needed to determine your Net Worth & associated performance.

I might give this a try. $6 is not too much of a gamble.

  • thanks op

  • It's a pretty comprehensive template, for anyone thinking of getting this, you get most value out if it if you are diligent in updating it regularly with your latest details.

  • Have this and highly recommend this if youre looking to get into budgeting
