For some reason I can't login to the education store, and it has been like this for a week now.

    • +5

      you're probably same as me

here's what I have to do:
      1. click Ozb deal link first time, log in, this goes to a blank page. keep this tab open
      2. click it again, this shows an error page. keep this tab open, too
      3. click 3rd time, this time it takes me to education portal and shows the product

      • Thank you for sharing this.
Third time it tells me "Welcome, looks like you’re new to the Samsung Education Store"

        • I think it did that for me as well like the very first time, I did something I can't remember what though.. and then I got to the product

          • @shabaka: I would really appreciate it if you remember what you did. I tried everything…

            • @Yomamassugardaddy: The same happened to me, This is how I solved it.

You can login to your outlook account using 2 adresses. what I mean by that ?

              [email protected]
              [email protected]

Whatever you type in outlook , you will log in to the same account , BUT, Samsung edu store considers this as 2 different addresses.

So I created [email protected] long before. but it was not working. Yesterday I created a new account using "[email protected]"
I was able to get the product I want and my old account is still not working. (My guess is Samsung banned the accounts starting with Uxxxx)

So if you have created edu account using the [email protected] , you just need to create a new account that contain your name.

        • it will say that everytime, just login with your details in a different browser.

  • Ordered one of these for a family member last week - great value with the $50 voucher.

Better get a POCO F3 instead

    • -5

Samsung vs a brand that sounds like a kid's toy. What is a Poco anyways.

      • -6

        Lol… Both got negged…

    • +5

But why? The S20 FE has:
      Australian warranty
      IP68 rating
Better camera system including a proper telephoto
      SD Card
Better support, with Android 12 scheduled for January and monthly security patch
      Dex mode

      What Poco F3 has:
Slightly faster SoC (SD870 vs SD865 which is essentially same SoC just different clock).
5G (because this is 4G model)

  • +7

It's a great deal. Those $50 vouchers are often a real pain to get..

  • for those who might of missed the post about the 5g model https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/663816

    Here's a $50 newsletter voucher: MA9-E498-6B5P-TLTB.

Anyone know any cheap ways to get a .edu.au email address?

    • +1
      • +1

When did you do that? I just tried and it says the September 2021 intake is closed :(

        • +2

Ummm my guess would be before September 2021.

    • +1

Sign up for a course with any uni and never actually enrol into any subjects. Works especially well with bridging courses

S20 FE 5g model is also back in stock for $534 with $50 off voucher or $584 without voucher (need edu.au email)

This one's more value for money over the 4G version if you ask me …

      • +1

        I disagree, 4G is enough.

        • +1

Until telcos start to slow down 4G speeds intentionally.

3G used to be enough for me to hotspot internet for the whole family before we got NBN.

        • +1

Telcos are pushing 5G fast… 4G is no longer enough if you're looking medium term into the future..

  • +1

Is this better than pixel.6,? Can't log into edu store, despite tried 3 edu emails ..

    • Same here.

      • +1

Tried many times , link expires , so give up now

    • -1

I hated my FE, replaced with a Realme C15, 4 day battery, a phone that actually works, so many lost calls on the FE and it was only 11 months old.

      • I see, so pixel 6 would be better them

        • Not what I am saying but from personal experience the FE was always giving me issues with the non responsive screen, then in the last 2 weeks I could barely hear calls. My now $200 phone out performs it as a phone.
Read reviews, I have read the Pixel has some major issues too. Hold off till it all gets sorted imo.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: i see, thanks, waiting for telstra deal, i am sure google would fix the issues, my pixel 2 is functionning..

            • @coast666: I am waiting the same Telstra deal, that's how I got the 20FE which whilst was free, was useless to me.
I will never buy Samsung again, the C15 has no bloatware, I think it's time to spend less money on high end products when you can get the same for less.
Dual sim support, 3.5 mm and SD card on entry level phones and not on high end? Now that is a joke.

          • -2

            @[Deactivated]: username checks out.

      • "4 day battery" what's that in terms of SOT?

        • Dunno what SOT is, 4 days would be an exaggeration for some as I am a light user, still had 25% of battery left.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: SOT = screen on time.

            • -1

@magic8ballgag: I never checked but I am on my 2nd charge now and will report back when it is done ie depleted.

    • You need to click the home page after you log in then close the tab then click the phone link and refresh

  • Has anyone got a spare $50 code to share?

  • I am still waiting on two $50 newsletter codes!

    • it normally takes a day to arrive

      • Thanks but it has been five.

        • -1

Get onto support, live chat and speak to them, or email them.
Tell them you want to buy now, they wont risk a lost sale.

          • @[Deactivated]: They absolutely will, from experience.

            • @basilv: Just tried both via chat and on the phone a couple of times with different operators, nope got a flat refusal. Only their online.sales email address / online sales team can do the voucher.

        • try a work email or something that isn't gmail etc, I received a code to my work in 15 mins, and to the others it's also been 5 days and nothing has come through

  • Bought the POCO F3 8GB/256GB from Amazon a few days ago and still not yet shipped. Any thoughts on this S20 FE versus POCO F3? I can understand the specs-wise difference, but keen to hear real user experience.

    • My FE20 was a pita, nothing but issues, last 2 weeks could not even hear people on calls, terrible screen issues with non responsive screen, was 11 month old before I chucked it.

      • +1

But wouldn't it still be under warranty?

        • -2

It was, I actually smashed the phone, I was going to trade it in, stuff lead up to an inflamed incident where I threw the phone, screen never cracked at all, toughest phone I have ever used, just that the screen fails to turn on now.
I was missing important phone calls, the warranty would be leaving me without a phone but the onus was on me with my behavior in the end. I didn't care that I never had it anymore, the newer phone works a treat and next deal I look at I wont be getting a 1K phone, to me they're simply a waste of money.

    • +2

Specs wise they would be actually fairly close except:

      The S20 FE has:
      Australian warranty
      IP68 rating
Better camera system including a proper telephoto
      SD Card
Better support, with Android 12 scheduled for January and monthly security patch
      Dex mode
Wireless charging and Powershare (i.e wireless charging accessories like earbuds or watch)

      What Poco F3 has:
Slightly faster SoC (SD870 vs SD865 which is essentially same SoC just different clock).
5G (because this is 4G model)
Faster charging (FE charge decently fast with 25w PD + PPS, I use Satechi 100w GaN charger that support PPS and it Super Fast Charge. The charger that comes with FE is only 15w i.e Fast Charge only)
2GB more RAM and 128GB Storage (but no SD card)

I bought my dad the S20 FE 5G from EOFY deal on Ebay. It registered fine with Samsung AU warranty and is brand new as confirmed by Samsung. I would say it's a very good proper flagship killer (i.e one that actually has IP rating, wireless charging, powershare, telephoto camera and that are actually reserve for flagship, not just the SoC), my dad did not have any issue with touch register.

  • Pulled the trigger on a s21 for my partner instead for $621

    absolute bargain ;)

      Trade in, I'm guessing?

      • Yea looks like it from the screenshot, highlighted in red at bottom

  • anyone got a way of making an edu email without going to uni or asking family or friends?
there has to be a way around this right!?

    • Looking for an answer aswell

      • Sign up to do a bridging course at any of the online universities and never enrol into any subjects. I've had mine for 7+ years

        • awesome, thank you. which uni did you find successful?

    • Sign up to do a bridging course at any of the online universities and never enrol into any subjects. I've had mine for 7+ years

      • Ok I googled a online bridging course with Griffith online uni, now I await the reply

        • Please update us;)

  • Is anyone else having trouble checking out on the online store? I am on the page where I input my details, phone number, address etc. but I cannot click the blue "continue" button.

    • try a different browser or go incognito/private

Good battery life but rooting is hit or miss.

    • +7

      The phone or your gf?

  • +1

Have to say it's a rare deal for a good phone with a top camera, it's typically been selling for $799+

Bought it for $590 a couple of months ago and thought I was getting a good deal.

  • -1

I'm confused with the rear camera.
    Samsung has: 12.0 MP + 12.0 MP + 8.0 MP
    Oppo Reno Z has:48MP & 5MP

How can the Samsung take good photos, when it only has a 12MP camera?

  • I have registered with an .edu.au address, but I reach a 'Welcome, looks like you're new to the Samsung Education Store.'
I input my email address but it doesn't click through to anywhere? Anyone have any advice?

    • +1

      try a different browser

      or

      incognito/private mode

      or

      clear history/cookies/cache

    • I'm having no issues using edge for desktop on windows 10. Yummycool has pretty much covered everything to try. I have issues sometimes with Samsung edu store, in the past and tried again a few hours later and it has work (I believe the edu website is just junk). There email is [email protected] if everything else has failed. They respond quickly, just close at 5pm, otherwise chat is also an option during business hours

  • +1

Still haven't got my voucher and just emailed them. Hopefully they actually help me

I got $50 code on 19.11. It's saying invalid code when I am applying promo code. Does anyone else having same issue or know how to fix it?

    • I got my code on 14 july and worked yesterday

  • +1

OP may wish to add only a 15W charger is included and you'll need to buy the 25W charger to get the full charging capability.

Wall Charger for Super Fast Charging 25W is currently $18.85 in the education store (link below may not work, but just search in-store

    https://shop.samsung.com/au/multistore/auepp/samsung_educati…

Also, 2 decent reviews based on snapdragon (5G model in reviewers case)
    GadgetMatch
    GSMArena

    • Is this Anker 30W charger better/faster than the Samsung 25W?
      https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07W7B8NTZ/

      • -2

Yes the power draW anker will be higher making it better but you will also need an appropriate cable too.

      • +1

The phone can only handle 25W max. Anything above that 25W would still charge at the phone's capacity. You're just paying less for a genuine product vs more for a product that will have no performance benefit and I won't comment on the quality of Anker (never used their products before), but at least you know Samsung will deliver on the quality front.

      • Edit: I also factor in resale value for when I sell the device. I personally have found over the years you can always get a better price if you have the box and all its contents + any genuine accessories. Aftermarket accessories don't tend to get the same traction as genuine accessories. The fact genuine is cheaper just makes sense. I think that maybe people think if you went all out and purchased genuine extra's, that you cared for your device more and only wanted the best. Not 100% sure, but this is just my experience. I also spent the extra $80 for 5G, as I believe in 2 years (when I sell), it will be in higher demand than 4G

        • +1

Thanks, I have similar thoughts. I bought the Samsung charger instead of the Anker and also paid extra for the 5G model

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Sweet. I think that is the best combo. I'm watching Samsung Smart Clear View Cover on Camel Camel Camel, for the price to drop (clearance). I think this is the last really decent accessory for this phone. Noticed today white is now under $50, but I'll wait for the navy to go on clearance. The QR fast charge stand also looks okay, but not my style.

BTW after a ton of reading the phone comes with a screen protector already preinstalled (be careful not to peal this off), but no case. If you want a cheap clear case, I found this Case Clear Heavy Duty Shockproof Cover for $5.49 local stock.

The only other thing is the phone has no 3.5mm Jack and I am unsure if they provide one in the box. You may have to buy a USB-C to 3.5mm, if you still use wired headphones.

Hopefully, you enjoy the phone mate. I am keen as to get it.

            • @Froot Loops: Thanks mate, I'll order one of those cheap clear cases. I prefer these over the wallet style cases and there's no way I'm gonna pay $69 for the Samsung case. I also bought my mum one of these phones and ordered her a nice wallet case with zip purse section for $26 on Amazon. At my local mall they sell rubbish flip cases for $35.

I've just been reading about the USB-C to 3.5mm audio jack and I think it must have inbuilt DAC or it won't work. A work around is go into developer mode and disable "Disable USB audio routing". I'll wait until the phone arrives before I get an adaptor. Or else I'll get a new set of USB-C headphones

              • @[Deactivated]: Thanks for the insight re 3.5mm. I don't think I'll use it, but there is alot in this phone that is new to me, and I like the play around and learn. Those 2 video reviews above were a little overwhelming talking about the basic features. I'm just happy if I drop it in the toilet, it will still be a resealable working item. hehe

    • Got my phone today and I am very happy.
I just want to that the cable provided in the box is USB-A —> USB-C and not the USB-C —> USB-C as seen in reviews (overseas seems to get the better deal). If you buy above 25W fast charger you will need a USB-C to USB-C cable

  • Does anyone have a spare $50 voucher I can use, please? It has been a real bugger to get hold of for my daughter. Thanks a million

  • +2

I had one of these for 3 months. Never owned Samsung and thought I try. Relatively good package but a couple of issues already mentioned ie in call quality, stuttering UI, Samsung bloatware, Samsung messaging app UI. Sold to Mobile Monster and picked up a Pixel 6 at launch. In the hand the P6 is a bit bulkier but UI smoothness and Google integration trumps FE.

    • Hopefully, the bugs will be sorted in the updates. I watched a few reviews, and they were positive about this phone. I know S20 FE 5G, was recommended a few times over the S21 5G (as it's buggy). I think also it's fair to mention this is a mid-highish range phone and is half the price of the Pixel 6. I do hope you get many years of fun from the pixel. I'm just happy that some great valued phones that aren't owned by China are coming onto the market.

I also noticed you can tweak things like refresh rate to increase usability for the payoff of decreased battery life. Either way, I hope to god they mail me a phone soon

  • Anyone has spare welcome code please? Tia

  • -1

    4G ? worth 100 bucks!

    • I'd say most people on ozbargain still don't have access to 5G. I know boost has no plans of introducing it and there are owned by Telstra. I cannot see the likes of Aldi or Kogan jumping to offer it soon either. 4G is fine for the average user and with the digitalisation of calls, they can increase 4G speed output from towers. (Was in the Telstra AGM), plus boost / Telstra did a press conference in 2019 or 2020.

I you need 5G, then pay the $80. I did for when I am on the road in Europe again
