To anyone who managed to nab one, enjoy & have a good one!

Put the reminder in your phone for Midnight Tonight.

We'll be offering 100% Cashback on $15 eBay Gift Cards for the first 2,000 Customers to transact.

We anticipate these will sell out extremely fast, so be quick!
To save yourself some time, you can link a payment method so you're ready to go at midnight.

I've also covered some important info under "GYB's Notes", so please take the time to read through these.

Enjoy!

GYB's Notes:

  • This Promo Stock is separate from our standard eBay Gift Card Stock.
You will not receive 100% Cashback if you purchase one of our regular eBay Gift Cards.
Please take a look at the rate displayed on the purchase page. If it says "3% Cashback", you're on the wrong page.
  • This promo is limited to 2,000 Gift Cards, and will no longer be available once they have been sold out.
  • I suggest you camp the Gift Card page on our app at midnight tonight as there will be a banner that leads to the correct page.
This can take up to 5 minutes to refresh, so it might be best to keep refreshing the page or reloading our app.
  • If you haven't already, be sure to link a payment method to your account prior to the promo going live.
  • You can use your Cashback balance to pay for the Gift Card, if you'd like.

  • Got one, thanks OP.

  • I would suggest that, if ShopBack infrastructure can't keep up like this, then actually make it into a lottery - you have 1 minute to opt in to a random draw, and it picks 2000 accounts to allow the purchase within 5 minutes or something. Still get the rush and people excited, and people have nothing to complain about if they miss out because it's based on luck.

We didn't think it would be this insane, but we will learn from this and make changes for next time.

      • Yeah, I too was expecting it to last 2-3 minutes, so I can understand that ShopBack did get overwhelmed pretty badly. I honestly just dislike the whole "first-come-first-serve" method, which leads to all these issues. I much prefer the lottery system like in the Japanese Olympics, which is much more luck based and therefore fairer. Hope you're not too bogged down by all the comments, I'm sure it will blow over in a few hours.

        • I wonder if it would fall foul of lottery related laws if an 'element of chance' was introduced, rather than 'first in best dressed'

Granted you could argue getting your checkout routed to an available server has an element of chance

          • @Tigerhacker: It's definitely possible, though I'd say this could arguably be classed as a giveaway, similar to those like/share/comment type giveaways that many businesses do. Worth a check regardless if it were ever to be implemented

  • Got one after two tries, thanks OP

I got in but then it asked me to verify my number after i clicked purchase with mobile sms verification. Had to run to my pc because i am using 4g lol. Missed out but, but i think it would've been like 30 seconds tops or less before sold out

Will this stack with the $5 bonus on gift cards purchased with mastercard challenge?

    • +2

They would, if there was stock left lol!
They sold out in less than 30 seconds.

If I activated about 10 minutes after purchasing would it still count?

      • HAHA free giftcard ever last more than 30 seconds?

    • If you activated prior to purchasing I don't see why it wouldnt.

There were a few issues with claiming the cashback, some which have already been noted by others. The first issue I faced was the banner simply being unclickable in the first 10 seconds. After I got past that, I used swipe to pay, only to receive a 'high traffic' message. I swiped another two or three times, receiving the same message. This took another 10 or 20 seconds. By the end of it, everything was sold out in less than a minute. Im a bit disappointed, but it's not personal. Just be more prepared next time when you're giving out freebies, especially to OzBers.

    • Appreciate the feedback!

We definitely will have more on hand the next time we run this promo :)

      • To give back to users with young kids, perhaps hold the next one during the early morning such as at 6am. :)

Haven't stayed up past midnight in years but have been woken up in the early morning numerous times - kids, possums, but not gunshots across the road (others were)!

Do understand it was the start of BF though.

After reading all the comments, I'm glad I just went to bed early

    • Hope you had a good laugh also lol

  • Hi, i am a a new member. I first joined shopback to get this deal. I was happy when I got it. Was thinking to get a phone cover for free.
Today I received a notification that i can withdraw $15. So I tried withdrawing it through paypal. The moment i receive an email from paypal that i got $15, I received another email of paypal asking for verification (it was sent exactly at the same time). I've used paypal for years, but rarely bought anything from ebay and I don't receive any payments. I thought it was a scam πŸ˜’does this happen to anyone?

    • Hey mate, welcome to the team!

It sounds like a Paypal withdrawal verification.
If you go through their app/website it might pop up with a prompt for Verification.

I personally would advise reaching out to Paypal support if you're worried the email is a scam :)

  • Thanks for your super quick reply. I logged in and they asked me to verify again. Just updated my address which is the same anyway ☺. Weird, I knew i was verified long time ago.
